Well, after reading chapter 329 I was convinced that the leader of Akatsuki is Yondaime. Then, after trying to actually prove that point I became unconvinced once again. I did however notice an interesting similarity which I felt I would share. If this has already been expressed, then I apologize. In the case it has, I'll keep this brief.

I say the Blue haired Akatsuki is the female pictured in Yondaime's team picture, or at least she's a decent candidate for several reasons. Her fate, as far as I know, is undetermined. She would certainly have the training to belong to a group such as Akatsuki if her peers were the likes of Yondaime. Lastly, and perhaps the reason I am writing this at all, is their hair color and styles are similar (provided you can be persuaded a grow woman might replace a hair-tie for a fancy brooche).
I also can't help but notice a similarity between Akatsuki leader himself and the other male teammate in chapter 122, especially since his eye pattern is concealed. His hair color and style also seems to be similar to AL, if you will allow that as he grew older he spiked it up a bit. And of course he would have the appropriate training if he is living, for the same reason I claim the blue haired woman would.
There is another theory on this site that Jiraiya is able to obtain information on Akatsuki because he is a spy on their behalf. If his former pupils were running the operation, then that scenario would certainly become more plausible; nonetheless, this last remark is a digression from the mainly visual pattern I wanted to point out.
