I wasn't one hundred percent certain where to put this, since it's been a while since I actually ventured into the creative powerhouse of our dear mangahelpers website. I have a few things to discuss. This does relate to fan manga, since she works on doujinshi for practice as well as plans original stories, which I help write for. (Should I put this in general, since it pertains to websites and manga? *whistles for a mod*)
For the past few days, I've been poking around different forums and settings, etc on the subject of original manga. There are all sorts of mishmash out there, so much that it's confusing where to begin. My little sister is the main talent, and she would like a website to showcase her work. She's been improving by leaps and bounds and is now actively tackling the art of backgrounds and advanced screentoning, though she rarely posts on places like deviantart. She instead wants her own website.
With the exception of my early days tinkering with html coding back when I was 14, I have no idea where to start. It needs to be simple and geared toward artwork showcase, it needs a news feed. Something like all those Japanese art pages in layout, perhaps, would be most simple to navigate.
Now, lovelies, where do I begin? I would adore links out to tutorials, etc. I don't know CSS at all. (I need to learn, I suppose.) Simple is best. I like sleek elegance. So, HELP THE POOR TANUKI. FOR SHE IS OLD and may not post much anymore, but she loves you, remember. (Now give her tutorials.)
We have three main series, one of which is completely fleshed out in the manner of chracters and setting, one that has story and setting but needs character work, and one in its infancy. Don't know if they'll ever come to fruition, but she/we at least want to have some fun with it. At the very least, we have a lot of ideas to work with: Hydroplane, Shoki, and Telomere are the names of the works, respectively. And all of them are completely different, how strange.
Anyway, so it needs a news feed so she can advertise that she'll take on commision oneshots for people, a place to showcase actual artwork, yadda yadda. I'll take suggestions, of course. I'm quite positive everyone out there knows more about this than I do, and I want to help her. Thanks to all who decide to throw links at me or give suggestion. (I am woefully not prepared.)
P.S. How *does* one go about protecting/copyrighting one's ideas and characters? X.X She asks me and I don't know.
