Prized Possession Photography #01-02: A Community by MarmaladeSky

The previous year has been a weird year. Most of my possessions are boxed up and stored away. Even though I've been keeping the my most important (or perhaps practical) things close to me, I couldn't quite figure out what would be right for this photography contest.
Around the house, there isn't much of sentimental value.
My cat is precious but not a possession.

So what is a prized possession?
I chose these two items, both gifted by MH members. Something unexpected, but very appreciated. One is rich when surrounded by good, supportive friends. And that’s what it means for me :blush

Prized Possession Photography #01-02: A King's Legacy by SirSamuel016

For this contest I knew I wanted to highlight something from my figure collection, but I went in between a few before settling on highlighting this Saber (White Dress Ver 1/7 Scale Figure by Bellfine) and accompanying it with the Fate/Stay Night 15th Anniversary Artbook (Return to Avalon). What you see in the photo are those two items with some purple fabric stored away in the house which I used as a background/set.

So why is Saber the prized possession I chose to be the subject of this photo? This Saber figure was one of, if not, the first scale figure that I ended up purchasing which marked an awakening as a weeb/collector. When I saw it in my local EB Games store, I just had to have it. I'd gotten into Fate a year or two earlier and I adored the series so there was that love that drew me in. There's another sentimental sense for the figure in that it represents a time when things were easier and I was far more involved in the MangaHelpers forum. It's a symbol of a shared love in Fate that many of us have here on the forum and share with each other, leading to us forging friendships and invoking a sense of community that I fell back on when times were tough during the pandemic. The friendships I've forged on MangaHelpers due to this shared love of Fate and other series can't be photographed, but I feel that I can acknowledge these cherished bonds with this prized possession of mine that represents that love for Fate and more.

Prized Possession Photography: Karikatur by Kiki

My uni lecturer gave this to me, a caricature of me, as a graduation gift back then in 2015. He is really close to many students. We joked around a lot, ate together, he often treated us, we scuba-dived together..... So nostalgic. This caricature is precious to me.

Prized Possession Photography #01-02: Loot of Friendship

Why did I choose this? It is a normal closet just stuffed with Otaku goods... One could say.
No. Most of this here is stuff I got during our (mine and Niis) four trips to Japan. Sure one could have just bought this all online but then it wouldn't give me the same feeling. This closet is always in my field of view, while I am on my couch. I can always see all the different things I got in Japan during multiple trips. It simply calls back the memories of the time spent over there. While we also vitited lots of sightseeing spots and ate tons of good food, the stuff in this pic basically combines the things I cherish most. Japan, Otaku culture and Nii. ;D

Prized Possession Photography #01-02: Evil's planted-up manga shelf

This composition is a combination of my favourite works of manga that I started to collect, as well as some of my favourite plants in the rose evening light from south-westwards facing windows on opposite. Last year during the corona lockdowns when I sublet my apartment for a couple of months to leave it and work from Greece, I came to miss grabbing a manga out of the shelf and read it on my (uncomfortable, yet pretty '-') couch, surrounded by the chlorophyll machines with their soothing green tint. Although I have been moving relatively often and changing several apartments and cities throughout the years, I feel like slowly pacing down to start creating a home I feel comfortable with. One brick, one manga shelf at a time.

Prized possession - Magi's lil corner of presents

Well since this is considering a prized posession than I can just join as well, lol

Hmm... whats there to say? I once made this photo for Nii since he was waiting for it '3' but that aside, most of these were presents I got from my friends, the SNK cards that got shipped from Thailand, the League of Legends, Sombra and Sebastian figures, and the fucking Teemo hat lmao. The others are things I bought myself especially the Umineko loot because holy frick that was difficult to find. You have no idea how much time it took me to get that and the shipping costs stays ridiculous, but you know what? I didn't even give a shit about it since I wanted it that badly XD Although, the only thing that's missing in this photo is my Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic T-shirt (which I also got as a present) and the Lambda and Bern mug.

So yeah, I barely to never actually buy any otaku related stuff, but whenever I do it then its something I truly want to have that nothing can stop me from getting it (unless it costs like 200 bucks then heck no...... yes I am looking at you Umineko VN switch version with these cute merch >.> one day I will get these unlimited merch... one day.... T3T ). So... that's about it. '3'/

Art Contest #01-02: Prized Possession Photography: "Mysterious gift from the sea" by revo

This is a rare rock from the ocean in a beach I went in January last year in Brazil.
It has some sort of flower petals around a little star in the middle, and they're natural and formed from the depths.

With every other visitor of the beach we would find broken and little parts of them in the shore everyday, but the last morning I stayed there before going back home, I was walking a bit on the shore after swimming, and I found the entire rock buried halfaway in the wet sand.

It was so sudden and weird, as it was rare to find it complete, and it happened minutes before I had to go back to my country. I gave it to my mother and she said it was a symbol of our last trip together as a family. Because of covid, that was my last time outside, and the rock is the last thing I got from the "outside" world, and something given from nature.

It's a prized possesion of more emotional and silly reasons I believe, but I hold it very dearly. :blush
The shells around it are a decoration mostly, but they're all collected from that trip as well.

Art Contest #01-02: Prized Possession Photography: "The Camera Itself" by Ustegius

All my tools for expressing myself are super important for me. So used the tool to take a pic of the tool. Because without the tool I couldn't immortalize my prized possession and moments.

As an alternative I did take photos of my sauna, but after a coin flip I decided to submit this instead of a sauna photo.

Everything done on camera, only editing I did was the mirror flip.
