Art Contest #05-06: Classic Video Games Avatar & Signature Set : Pocket Monsters ™ by Ust

I wanted to make a Pokemon set that tributes the original art and design by Ken Sugimori. I love how the old school pokemon art looks, and tried to emphasize that feel and era in the effects and adjustments. The OG Gen 1 Pocket Monsters are as classic as video games get.

This grass feels funny.... It feels like pants by MarmaladeSky

The first thing that came up my head was Kirby... so a Kirby set it is! Granted I have only played 1 Kirby game, I still feel it's a recognizable character that's been around for decades. Very cute too :nod

Dragon Valor set, by Uberfayt:

This set is an homage to a game that brought a lot of joy to me in my life.

Dragon Valor is a Playstation 1 hidden gem. It is an action RPG title combining platform, puzzles and hack-and-slash elements. It also has a simple yet intriguing storyline divided into five chapters. In the first one you incarnate a young man named Clovis, who swore revenge against the dragon that ravaged his village, then you play as Clovis' descendants in the following chapters. Moreover, the story branches out into three possible paths.

What I love about this game is the fluidity and preciseness of the controls, the diversity of combos, the (sometimes) very challenging A.I., the engaging soundtrack, the cool character designs and the fact that I still discover new things despite having played it several times in the span of 16 years.

Also, I have found that speedrunning the game added an even greater layer of challenge and fun! As I'm constantly looking for new ways and strategies to finish the game as fast as possible, then trying to master those stunts after discovering them is just too damn fun and satisfying!

Here is a link to the speedrun page of the game, with the current records and footage:
The characters and logo are property of Namco.
The characters are taken from the game's "gallery", which is unlocked after beating the game:
I credit myself (Uberfayt) for all the edits, including redrawing the line art on top of the original Picture from the game (as it was too blurry and of poor quality).
