Golden age 218: Past Self

The match between Akutsu and Amadeus has begun. Akutsu draws the attention of the audience with his signature formless style.
Byoudouin and Duke flash back to just before the match when Akutsu insisted on keeping his position. Duke comments that Akutsu reminds him of a younger Byoudouin.
Akutsu hits a Glowing Shot, but Amadeus returns it with ease as the wall behind him shatters. The two continue to rally and finally Amadeus brings out his own special technique: Akutsu loses track of the ball and is only able to see its shadow. He stops in place and gets hit, the blow being so strong that it causes Akutsu to fly backwards.
Amadeus explains that his own style is the "Dark Side" and wonders if Byoudouin has completed his Destruction by now.

Golden age 219: No Matter How Many Times...

Akutsu has been knocked out by Amadeus' Dark Side and lies unconscious on the floor. Amadeus grabs him by the ankle and drags him over to the other side of the court during change-over to finish the match; the score is 5-0 in the Swiss' favor.
Byoudouin reveals that Amadeus traveled to Japan once 2 years ago to play against him. He doesn't tell who won though.
Considering Akutsu's condition the referee is about to step in, but Akutsu gets back up again, trembling. However, as play continue Sengoku notices that Akutsu still doesn't seem to be conscious and wonders how he is still moving.
Dan breaks out in tears and cries Akutsu should give up the match. At that moment, Ryoma appears right next to him, asking Dan if Akutsu has ever given up. He then goes on to point out that despite everything that happened in Tokyo, Dan's real goal is still Akutsu and not Ryoma himself. On the last page, Akutsu's eyes light up again.

Golden age 220: Consciousness

Dan goes back to cheering Akutsu on with all his might. In the meantime, Amadeus hopes that he and Byoudouin can face off again in the KO stage. He hits another Dark Side, but this time, Akutsu manages to catch the ball on his racket.
Remembering his match with Ryoma as well as what Dan and Banji told him, Akutsu puts all his might into returning the ball and shoots it back with full force. Amadeus doesn't react, but the wall behind him gets a second, even deeper crack.
At that point, Tanegashima, Ohmagari, Duke and Oni rush into the stands and wave their rackets to dispel the shock wave from Akutsu's shot. Tanegashima says that if they hadn't stepped in, the audience members would've been blown away and Duke adds that they only managed to do something about the shock wave thanks to the instructions Byoudouin had given them beforehand.
Akutsu has achieved the Eighth Consciousness.
