A black Torch anime is bizarre, I'm glad for the author and all but why adapt a cancelled manga from 8 years ago by an author whose subsequent manga was also probably cancelled due to losing all it's fanbase after a long hiatus?

Even if a higher up was a big fan, it'd still be hard to justify and market something like that.

HeroOrg will explode with an anime. ❤ Wish Viz would pick it and Ghost Fixers up.

I'm waiting for Ron Kamonohashi, Kindergarten Wars and Ghost Fixers to be published in English so I can buy them.

I don't know what's taking them so long. The French, German, Spanish and Italian editions are, like, 14 volumes in and- oh hey, Kindergarten Wars 1 is available for pre-order. *adds to basket*

Still no Ron Kamonohashi though. Maybe I should just buy it in French.

Also no sign yet of Ghost Fixers in any language. Is it not popular?

As a sidenote, the German version of Summer Time Rendering is called "Bright Sun – Dark Shadows" (complete with spooky font), while the French named it Time Shadows. I like the French title best, it captures both the time travel concept and the atmosphere.

Yen Press is at least releasing Kindergarten Wars in english in print later this year.

But yeah, the others RonKamo and Ghost Fixers would be good to have.

Anytime we get licensing surveys from companies here, I put some of these jump+ and jump sq manga viz passes on them

Beast Orange (what's in a name?) looks interesting. The art style is average, but the concept is original enough and they avoided the standard route by escalating things almost immediately. I'm glad, because the other three couldn't grab me at all.

Chuck Beans is not my style of humour, and the talking pebble is seriously annoying.

Ashi Dribbles Through is kinda cute, I suppose, but both the art and story are extremely basic.

Maison and the Man-Eating Apartment feels just like The Vertical World 2.0, and it's not nearly as interesting without the 'new' factor. Also I really don't like stories that get you invested in a character only to bump them off almost immediately. Makes me feel like I've wasted my time.

Some more random observations this week:

Kamonohashi: Is Winter having a crush?

Drama Queen: The moral stuff was intentional. (Also did we switch main characters?)

Shinewbi: Yeah, I don't think she's meant for this job.

Ghost Fixers: ... What is it with professionals losing their mind over stupid stuff? I'm kinda disappointed they couldn't get him once even after all that build-up. He's so going to fall asleep during the movie.

Didn't see that one coming. Looks like we'll be getting an actual finale, too.

Ghost fixers: The boy is so sweet without even knowing it. He was trying to get his way, but then gave in almost immediately when he saw it would make her happy. Too bad they're getting the horror movie after all.

The Marshal King: "This is the academy where Jimmy Godspeed studied"... for half a day, and then he stole their treasure and ran. Why are you even boasting about that?

This is clearly a passion project. Boichi is having a lot of fun with the worldbuilding and the colours and it does look beautiful. But when it comes to the writing, he might be better off with a partner after all. The story feels unfocused and weirdly paced, with the MC changing goals on a whim, storylines getting cut short and a lot of things happening for no clear reason.

For example, there's a bunch of McGuffins legendary guns called Supermagnums and the strongest one belonged to the Marshal King (name drop!), but before you can use it you need rigorous training to unlock your dormant powers and it's sealed away with tons and tons of steel, so- no, wait, nevermind, the MC just picked it up from the school cellar. That was easy. But there's also another set of McGuffins that belonged to the Marshal King (which were apparently his body parts and also held his power) and we gotta catch them all to revive that power, so surely we'll have to search far and wide to- no, wait, nevermind, the second item just came flying in through the air by itself because the MC called for it. That was easy. Time to leave the school we spent the last 3 (out of 6) chapters getting into!

You catch my drift.

Marshall King to me comes across like a fake manga within another series, the kind of exaggerated nonsense battle shounen filled with every cliche imaginable you see being portrayed as the #1 WSJ hit that all the characters love (like Uron Mirage in Witch Watch).

Has Boichi ever done a series on his own before? Or only one-shots?

Because this feels like the kind of concept that would work really well in a one-shot, but is a lot harder to serialise.

He's done several Korean Manhwa before (but they were aimed at adults)

Makes me wonder what the story in those was.

Of course, if they are the right kind of adult manga, it doesn't really matter.

His most popular series (besides Dr Stone) is Sun-Ken Rock which I thought was Korean but it was apparently in a Seinen magazine. He has made a lot more according to his Wiki page though.

Oh, I though SKR was Korean because it takes place in Korea

25 volumes? So the guy can write.

That makes it even weirder that the story here feels so unpolished. Maybe he really is just having fun and not thinking about it too much.

He did a lot of manga, I'm not a fan of his humor so the only one I can say i like is Origen where the vibe is more serius, from reading the first chapter i feel Marshal King will be the humor kind so it will not be for me.

Now Astro Baby, Get Away Matsumoto and 2.5 Dimensional Seduction are showing ending flags as well.

* For Astro Baby, that means a final arc.
* For Matsumoto, if it ends here, that means it's been cancelled, because the story definitely isn't finished (it's day 13 of the
100 days escape).
* For 2.5 Dimensional Seduction, they just wrapped up a main plot point, though they could still do another arc after this (I only read a couple chapters, so not sure how unusual this is).

Speaking of endings RIP Navigatoria, you had a cool world build up but completely wasted it by instead just having them all go to leader school. A rather bizarre ending too, when you think about the actual sequence of events.

The author definitely has soon good ideas floating around, hopefully next time they can focus the story around those ideas instead of all the good stuff merely being a backdrop for school.

Insect girl feels like it might be ending too. Kunigei definitely is.
