Shounen Spray King by Shin Mikuni

[Ju-da-su]

Spray King by Shin Mikuni starts as two oneshot in Shounen Rival's 2008 May and October issue, before becoming a full ongoing series starting from Shounen Rival's 2009 February issue onwards. Shin Mikuni, the mangaka of this series, is an assistant of RAVE Master, Monster Soul, Fairy Tail and Monster Hunter ORAGE's mangaka, Hiro Mashima.

Summary
In the city named Kotobuki, there is a rumor of a man who defeats bad people and only leave the giant, beautiful graffiti in the scene. Since no one has ever seen that man in person, they called him "Spray King." Kuroda Miu, a photography student in an art academy and part-time photographer for one of the weekly magazine, wants to capture Spray King onto her photograph in order to create a good scoop in the magazine. One day, she met with Tanaka Torateru, a boy who just entered the academy but wasn't that good in art. How could the meeting of the two lead to the "truth" about the city they lived in and about the hero in the shadow named Spray King?

Shin Mikuni, the mangaka of this series, is an assistant of RAVE Master, Monster Soul, Fairy Tail and Monster Hunter ORAGE's mangaka, Hiro Mashima.

I was wondering why the art reminded me of One Piece (no offense to Mashima). I like the idea of including graffiti, but neither the story nor the characters really grabbed me.

If he dropped the Spray King angle and went with a plot about Miu chasing scoops, particularly involving the shadier side of the city, I would be much more interested.

i agree with Do Kesubei and slippy. the artwork isn't bad. the characters seem intriguing. but from personal experience the graffiti lifestyle isn't interesting enough to be put in manga form, imo. if it gets picked up for Edited Manga i'll give it 10 chapters before i make my decision.

The graffiti was the part that grabbed me the most XD
I think the story is a little cliche... but I know many mangas with a weak synopsis (is that the word?) and that are still very very good!

But yeah, just scimming the raws make it seem like a generic super hero with super powers (that graffiti can did some magic, I dunno), but I'll still read it once its scanlated.

I will only judge this manga by its art for now. And the art is great, if you ask me. Sure, the story seems a little.. unoriginal, not so interesting but I won't really say any more on that topic until there is a scan of it. If someone starts Editing I will probably get stuck in it anyway. x)

I really like the artwork on the graffiti, and the outfit the guy wears when doing the role of Spray King is good too. It'll be good in March when the series really starts to take off

The main duo reminds me of Loïs Lane and Clarck Kent.
Reading the first chapter makes me have this vision of a manga showing also the urbanity of a city, wandering in the night to meet particular people, misfits, workers during the night, clubbers etc. Something like in the film Collateral. That would be awesome, but, actually, I think this manga would be your average shonen manga.

Dunno if this is the right thread to post this but here goes.
Are we ever going to see a scan of Spray King chap2? I mean we've had a Spanish scan up for quite some time and while I may know a few words my Spanish ain't nearly good to read a whole chap of it.
