Terra Formars
By: SAGUSA Yu and TACHIBANA Kenichi
Genre: Action, Horror, Mature, Sci-fi, Seinen, Tragedy
Serialized In: Miracle Jump, Weekly Young Jump
Publisher: Shueisha

With the space program attempting to travel to Mars, 21st century scientists were tasked with warming up the planet so that humans could survive on its surface. They came up with an efficient and cost effective plan of sending cockroaches and mold to the surface so that the mold would absorb the sunlight and the insect corpses would serve as a food source for the mold.

It is now the year 2577 and the first manned ship to Mars has landed on the planet and the six crew members are ready for their mission. But what they find are giant mutated humanoid cockroaches with incredible physical strength. The crew members are easily wiped out, but not before sending a transmission back to Earth. Now, humanity will send elite warriors to exterminate the mutated bugs and claim back Mars.

It ranked 1st place on this year's "Kono Manga Ga Sugoi!" List.

Thanks to Mr. Prince for the suggestion!

Looks quite interesting, just started reading and loving the art.
However I do hate the fact that the humans are also hybrid insects, not my cup of tea but it's still awesome when it comes to the action scenes.

The design of the insects is pretty interesting, kind of stands out, though the rest of the art is good as well, it kind of seems like the artist is focusing more on the insect designs. They seems different from the rest of the manga, which is regularly drawn for any manga set in space. It's a new big hit, so we will see how it develops.

Hum I'm not sure about this one. I like the powers based on the insects but I don't like the fact that the cockroaches became so humanoid. Also I don't really like the metaphysic stuff with the pyramids and the god of Rahab. And the gramps is pretty annoying and he is the only character that will probably stay alive all the time... So I will keep reading a few chapters to see if I continue or not.

I just finished reading Volume 3. Oh geez, as what they say, " SHIT JUST GOT REALZZ!". Too many characters dying I thought I'm reading A Game of Thrones. Please don't kill Michelle, author-sensei, please?!

Read it recently; I enjoyed it. It's just another case of 'Everyone Dies: The Manga', like Gantz, SnK, etc. where anyone who has an iota of development will almost certainly be killed off or has numerous death flags, which isn't anything special. Not really a fan of how the author is basically using magical space moss and evolution to asspull that cockroaches are the magnum opus of the animal kingdom either.

With that said, the manga is still good, brainless fun.

However, I did like how:

The author broke up the slice of life on the ship with an impromptu invasion by several cockroaches on Annex-1. I didn't expect that to happen. Shame the author seems to also have a fetish for developing and then killing off cute female characters.

Just caught up. It's been pretty damn entertaining. My only minor gripes are that I can't bring myself to care about any characters since they all seem to die so quickly, and I think the story is over-narrated at times.

I got tricked for a minute there. Pretty cool that they are using plants now too. That opens up some interesting possibilities for cool powers. Poison, Venus Fly Trap, photosynthesis, thorns, vines, cacti, etc..

It's funny the series is still going. When you see them take off from that planet you think it's the end of the story. At least I thought so. Glad it's still goin.

I'm surprised the series isn't more popular over here, it gives a pretty similar vibe as Gantz (and is actually more enjoyable in my opinion). The whole cockroach deal is so over the top, I love it :XD I like all the explanations about the ants and animals too and how their abilities are portrayed iny combat. The only mistake I could spot so far is declaring the ant as the strongest insect when it's actually the Horned Dung Beetle. I don't really mind one or two mistakes though, the world of insects and animals is so huge that you obviously will make a mistake at some point (or might write something that proves wrong in the future, f.ex. when we discover a new insect).
