The D. is a middle initial, not like O'Conner, which means part of the Conner family in Irish. It's more like everyone in a D. family line all gets the same middle name. The problem is, what that middle name IS (in other words, what the word the letter D stands for is) is unknown, and will probably stay that way until the Raftel arc. I personally think it's Dreamer, but there are other theories, and there is NO way to decide which one is right, as of now. And yes, the last name thing is because of the Japanese way of having family name before given name. Although Roger D. Gol sort of misses the point of Gol D. Roger= Gold Roger, but still, Roger is his first name, just as Luffy's first name is Luffy, Garp's first name is Garp, and Blackbeard's first name is Teach.

It wouldn't, I guess. I guess it only works in English. Though it seems it would work okay, it'd be Goru Di Roger instead of Gorudo Roger. Either way, that's how it is. Gol D. Roger= Gold Roger.

It would be interesting if Dadan were Garp's or Dragon's wife but still had in its name the D. At that point I may be right (because if both have D., then D. isn't the name of a family):

yeah, if D. was the name of just one family it would be hard to relate Saul to all the others.
perhaps its just like Homer J. Simpson = Homer Jay Simpson --> Monkey D. Luffy = Monkey Dee/Di (???) Luffy, though that would be a really bad joke from oda.
on the other hand it might somewhat work like roman names in ancient times which would kinda fit the idea of "D." being a remnant from the void century.

With all the emphesis put on the D initial, I doubt Oda would just make it into a pun or something. Besides, in Japanese, I think it's written as the sound for D rather than the letter, so that pun wouldn't really work anyway. Oda probably doesn't follow The Simpsons that closely either.

I'm sure it stands for something, just nothing totally obvious at the time. Hopefully it's not for "Davy"

Well I people I like to know, what you think the Will of D is?

Well my thought D is maybe the name of those people their mother. Or wive.. or something like that..

Or it's from an influencal person in the Void Century?

My first thought is that for Monkey D Luffy en Dragon D stands for Dandan...
It's just a second name? Or is it maybe Davy (from Davy Back.. Davy Back = Davy Jones?)

A note that they're from the country that was destroyed. That's my main guess, and though I can imagine it is this, I imagine there will be something more than this. The Will of D may be connected to the country, but I imagine it's more closely connected with the reason they kingdom was destroyed.

Davy Jones wouldn't be it, Davy Jones is a legend at best...that said, I can see Oda bringing in a descendant of Davy Jones or something.

Dandan is a name on it's own, no-one would call someone by their middle name ever, unless they were teasing them or something. If you're referring to the wife, I doubt it severely. Either Dandan sleeps around, or every powerful guy has a mother with a D name and everyone else had no mother as they have no middle name.

It's unrelated to the name of nobody, Luffy and Saul doesn't know what it mean. Either Saul said his entirely family has it.

The Pirate King was in Sky Island, he know about the D and all the story.

I was always thinking if Shandora couldn't be the kingdom Clover was talking about, but never thought there was so many evidence! If anyone can compare a map of Shandora to the Ancient Kingdom, or anything...

What about that "Tomb of the kings" where the Poneglyph was in Arabasta?

And if it is true, Maxim is an ancient weapon, no?

Another thing... Oz is way too much powerfull for what I think. He had been there 500 years ago. For the age of a giant, could he being one the ancient weapons himself? (okay, sounds stupid, but think about it)
