...does anyone have any idea what real-life teams the creators follow?

If I can speculate for a mo, my guess is that at least one of them is a Miami Dolphins fan. Consider...:

* The series is called Eyeshield 21, right. Based on the likes of LaDainian Tomlinson or LenDale White, surely. Yet who do we see a pic of in one volume? Ricky Williams, Miami's non-eyeshield 34. Nan de ya nen...?

* Kid? That kind of quick release? Pfff. Give him a knackered knee, he's Dan Marino.

* I don't care what anyone says, this final drive of the Shinryuuji game IS the Clock Play, writ large. We even see Hiruma fake-spike the ball towards the end of the 194th Down.

* The longest game in NFL post-season history is (at least, it was) the 1981 AFC Divisional Playoff, between the Dolphins and Chargers. The Bats-Nagas game has been going for at least as long - sure as hell feels like it anyway.

Bearing these in mind, I've got half an idea what might happen in the 195-7th Downs. I'm not going to say yet because I could be wrong on this, but I'm expecting something... odd... to happen.
