Some mangaka may appear multiple times on your list
Example: If you're a hardcore Takeshi Obata fan, you may include him on your list multiple times because he made serialized manga series by himself and has been a part of successful mangaka duos:

With this category I also have the most issues finding balance with personal favourites vs. historically/culturally important vs. "objectively" the most skillfull.

A rather solid start. I've read most works of most of these mangaka. Didn't expect Tamura to make the list at all actually, but I like that he made it. Beelzebub is very underrated when it comes to it's comedy, his second series was a mess but the Tiger Dragon Brothers one-shot was hilarious as well. Would've expected Fujimaki to get higher on the list, Kuroko love is real on the boards (and everywhere else), the rest of his works are mediocre, he has a generic one-shot and his second (sports) series was underwhelming, great when it came to the sport and the competition, uninteresting when it comes to the characters.

Would've loved to see more of Yamamoto, actually suspected that @Brandish would go for him, solid choice but would never made more than 1 points on my list as well, love most of his work (haven't read them all yet). Didn't think Hiroya Oku would make the list, even though Gantz used to be a mainstream hit, Gantz used to be a great manga (the Buddhist Temple Alien Mission Arc remains one of my most favorite animanga arcs there is), but besides ruining his flagship series, he continues to ruin it's spin-offs and his other works are a mess (good and bad). 01 is a fucking shitty manga. But Hen and Inuyashiki are good stuff.

The same can be said for Ishida, who started off great with the Tokyo Ghoul franchise only to turn it into a fucking mess and a dumpster fire. Let's all hope he's actually finally done with the franchise and moves on to something new. Yagi is one I thought would rate higher too, Claymore was a gigantic hit before and even (shortly) after it ended, Angel Densetsu is a great work (of terrible) art. and his new manga is great shounen fun too, despite being underwhelming compared the the other two works. Great pick, should've definitely ended on a higher place.

And well, the same can be said for Urushibara, Mushishi is a great franchise, and all of her one-shots and short series are equally amazing, art and story-wise. Definitely didn't think she would've ended so low.

I could've endorsed all of these, but on a small (overall) list of nominations we have to make for this, they all just don't make the cut.

Only three 2-pointers? I'm very curious to what the rest will be, definitely a bit more mainstream. I've got my mainstreams in the lower half of the top 10, while the "obscure" ones are in the top, but we'll see. Shounen lovers should definitely look out for my top three, must-read content.

Tabata making the list is a joke, and no, not because I dislike or hate Black Clover. It started of very generic and the main character became a shitty meme, but the manga really took off. The story and especially action are really great to read. But having a hit-shounen where half of it is mediocre or worse, and another cancelled series that had a very interesting premise and a bad execution (when it came to literally everything), is not something worthy of making a list like that. The improvements he made from Hungry Joker > Black Clover > second half of Black Clover is remarkable, so I grant you that @Valhalla777

And @Brandish is out with another one, I'm suspecting he solo's most of his list, like usual. Which, like Yamamoto (1p) is a shame, Amano delivered something great with the Aria franchise, and outside of that she delivers pure quality too.

I've read absolutely nothing of Masamune when it comes to manga, literally nothing. But, I have seen almost every single anime he worked on, and if the anime are some indication of the manga quality, Masamune deserves a lot more than a single 3p-nomination.

Shit Hara fell too early.Without Fist of the north star Berserk and JoJo would have been so different or probably would not have existed even.

I'll add some comments:

Souichirou Yamamoto - To be fair, I've only read Takagi-san. Gets a nod because that school kids rom com is in my top 10 mangas.

Kozue Amano - I've only read Aqua and Aria. Those are some peaceful manga to read. Tbh, the anime of Aria is better and that's how I got onto the manga. I'm keen to re-watch this series and take on Amano's ongoing stuff.

Jiro Matsumoto - I've read Freesia, Mikai no Hoshi, Becchin to Mandara, Yuzetsuzukeru and Netsutai no Citron. I like them in that order, roughly. Can't say every one of those manga are excellent, or will provide you with the characters/story for 'pure enjoyment', but for me, this mangaka is expressive in his own twisted way, which is rewarding and a change of pace to most of the stuff I consume.

InuYasha, Rinne, Maison Ikkoku, Ranma and Urusei Yatsura are all big franchises and she pulled off every single one of them, a great combination of action, adventure, romance and drama, every single one of them. She actually made my list a few times, but still had to leave her off.

Nope. I'm only familiar with InuYasha and I don't think it's that special. I guess Ranma was her more noticeable work.

Not seeing my name under Aoyama is even surprising to me. Everything I love combined turned into Detective Conan, which makes it one of the greatest franchises, for me personally. It's not that I didn't think of him, but the people I nominated have had a bigger influence on my life. Aoyama definitely left his mark, but not as big as the others. Glad at least @Valhalla777 had him on the list, unfortunaly he didn't rank higher.

Another solid batch, these 4-pointers, Hara definitely left his mark on the history of entertainment and Kingdom Hara might just do that in the end too, Kingdom is an absolute masterpiece and I don't want it to end, but I'm definitely looking forward to what he's going to do next.

Matsumoto is a great mangak, having read a few of his works (if not all, can't recall iirc), but I don't have much with him personally. Same for Wakaki, I read his flagship series.. half of it, and that's it.

George Morikawa is a god. And as a fan of him and Hajime no Ippo, we got the best kind of news this week. 1200+ chapters are out, and he mentioned in an interview THAT HE STILL HASN'T COVERED HALF OF HIS MATERIAL FOR THE SERIES! I just hope he his heart doesn't give out before he pens the finale.

And @Organizized coming with another mangaka who's manga I've ignored, Matsumoto, but I've seen his (two) anime adaptations, which are phenomenal!

Yumeka making the list was expected, Watashitachi might be one of the most overhyped and overrated (short) series I've come across, the following it gathered is absolutely fucking insane, it's not justified, despite it being a great series. It's not even in the top 10 of the mangaka's works, yet it's the only series everyone talks about, it's a shame.
