I don't think the Quincy were a bad idea. The background Kubo had introduced for them was interesting and made a lot of sense. It could've made for an interesting final arc.

What should've been an arc for Ichigo and Uryu's personal quest for revenge for their mothers, ended up just being a war between two races that really had no reason to fight against one another, despite the fact that one side literally committed genocide against the other. The Quincies, as individuals, did not give two flips about the fact that they were nearly wiped out.

The Shinigami didn't care that they were suffering for the sins their forefathers committed. No reflection or hesitation about them proceeding to do the exact same thing.

Basically, it was a sound concept, but Kubo went about it wrong. He could've kept the characters, but change the overall motivation on both sides. Then stay on Ichigo and Uryu's perspective.

I must say I am a little surprised that Shunsui got to the top 5. I am very happy he did though. One of the few characters that had a pretty streamlined character arc that was built upon during every battle he had. The conclusion to his character arc was also one of my favorites (not the battle itself). Up there with Gin, Komamura, Mayuri, Ulquiorra, and Stark. Plus, his design was

Ulquiorra is incredibly popular, but I think it is for good reason. He did not outstay his welcome, took his character type to the extreme, had an awesome design, and he even managed a nice little dynamic with Orihime.

It was a blast every time Mayuri showed up. Not only did he provide endless entertainment trolling his opponents (similar to Aizen), but Kubo really put in some work with writing this guy. He was morally bankrupt and over the top, yet Kubo managed to showcase several moments of down to earth reflection from him.

I respect your opinion but vehemently disagree.

The whole Quincy idea is a very Kishi idea and we know how those ideas turn out. The idea of a faction. And the conflict between factions should drive a story. This is completely at odds with what made Bleach good when it was good. The Soul Society arc for example. Rukia was sentenced to death because of reasons that weren't really about her and good characters let it happen because of unjust rules. Ichigo comes in as an individual doing the right thing and breaking those rules for the right reasons and you get to see how characters react to that. It's the individuals making the choices that they make which become the driving force for that arc and those battles. Hueco Mundo was the same deal. It's the characters that drive that arc.

So even if, as a concept, it was executed in the best way possible. As long as it's a faction like that fighting another faction the story was always going to suck. Because that's never what was good about Bleach. It's shifting importance away from the characters toward parts of the story that have never been particularly strong. The whole "this person is important because they have always been important it was just never revealed before now" retcons were never going to be sufficient to form a foundation for a great arc. I don't think it ever could have worked no matter what Kubo did.

Set-up is easy - it isn't a 'get out of jail free card' for questionable storylines

The Quincy were destroyed - it'd have been far better to reintroduce one or two, that somehow survived the cull, than a whole army - hiding in the shadows - that was strong enough to totally destroy all the Shinigami (Squad Zero, and their mum's)

But enough of my hatred for the Quincy - considering that I might have stuff to do soon, I'mma get on with the final 2

It's been a fun round [for me at least], even if you guys are fools for not putting the obviously best character in Bleach - Mayuri Kurotsuchi - in 1st place...

With 1 point more, we reach the lofty position of number 2 – and welcome to the podium a Yoruichi Shihōin.

Yoruichi and Rukia are my favourite females in this series (but I've done Rukia, she was in 9th place. You wanna hear about her, go back a few ranks).

When first introduced to this character, all we saw was a cat with a very masculine voice – however, then there was the reveal. Not as impressive as the Aizen one, perhaps, but I certainly know which person I'd rather reveal themselves to me.

Although she was very willing to act in a playful manner, especially if she knew it'd embarrass her target (Ichigo or Byakuya being her main targets), she was able to get serious when needed – and when needed, she had more than enough skill and power to deal with most situations

During the manga she embarrassed 2 captains with her speed and skill, both renowned for their speed feats. She also showed an aptitude for hand-to-hand fighting that was superior to Soi Fon (a captain who specialized in that kind of fighting style)

Yoruichi never showed her zanpakuto (outside of a flashback), which was a shame. However, although it would've been great to see more from it, she didn't really need it most of the time
Her fights were always high octane and exciting

I loved her banter with characters like Ichigo, Urahara, Byakuya, Soi Fon – as well as the others from Ichigo's group

As a previous captain and head of one of the 4 main families, she had great opportunities to reveal more information about the history and behind the scenes operation of Soul Society (had Kubo decided to go in that direction with the story) – kinda a shame he didn't

Oh, one more thing that I found amusing (considering her moniker) - somehow throughout this whole list [and even though she came in 2nd place overall] Yoruichi never ever was in 1st place

In first place, we have the 2nd best scientist (with Szayel coming in 3rd - and Aizen only making 4th place due to him being the only other main named scientist...)

Urahara was a mystery – at one point, before I cottoned on to exactly how Kubo was writing Bleach (read: mindlessly), I genuinely hoped that there'd be a 2nd switch, with Urahara, like Aizen (though, perhaps, not with him), being less 'good' than he appeared

He was an ex-captain, who had a reputation inside Soul Society (hell – Ikkaku recognised the name, instantly). He had some seriously powerful friends (Tessai was the first person we saw casting a lvl 90+ spell) and he knew an awful lot about an awful lot of things.

His tools and technologies were awesome, if a tad silly at times (his blown up doll, for example)
His fighting style was great
His zanpakuto was also awesome – I loved the unconventional shape and the interesting abilities

Speaking of his zanpakuto, it is one of those where I feel that my head cannon is superior to the actual manga showing... I wish it had been more 'blood' related (that would also have further cemented the suspicions of him not being all he says he is/not being necessarily a 'good' guy)
His bankai, although an interesting ability, really didn't gel with his shikai, either...

On a slight tangent, Urahara was also the main lead of one of the other great arcs in Bleach – that being Turn Back the Pendulum. Sure, it felt rushed and I wish that it hadn't been quite so easy to convert all the captains/vice captains, but it still was a great introduction to them – and to Mayuri also

One big negative for Urahara, however – the fucker made the Hōgyoku (sure Aizen also made one [that kinda irked me also - the fact that he also had to have made one, 'cause, you know, no fun in having Aizen not being responsible for motherfucking everything in this manga...], but still...)
He also was stupid enough to put it inside Rukia – like, I still don't see how that could ever have been a good idea...

Anyway, nice abilities, cool technology, great interactions with other characters, nice style, willingness to use Kido... Yeah, I'm glad Kisuke is in the top 10 (even if I wish he hadn't been the one to win this top 10, there are far worse people who could've won it instead...)
