His shikai was a rapidly extending blade - his bankai, an even more rapidly extending blade (that goes a little further)?
As I said, my dislike is not that it lacks power. The speed of retraction/extension and range are both significant upgrades, I'm sure (and the poison, an added bonus)

My issue with it is that it's boring and uninspired

Let's look at some of the other bankais:

Byakuya
- Shikai: Sword turns into sharp petals
- Bankai: Same, I guess, but look at how it appears. Loads of swords rise from the floor, then the enemy is surrounded by a dome of glowing swords. Each can be called when needed and Byakuya can even condense the whole lot down into a single, pure white, blade

Mayuri
- Shikai: Sword changes shape and gains paralysis powers
- Bankai: Sword turns into a fuckoff giant baby-faced, poison-breathing, throat-bladed, catterpillar beast

Komamura
- Shikai: Parts of the bankai can be summoned
- Bankai: A giant mecha samurai warrior appears to fight the enemy

Tousen
- Shikai: multiple powers, such as firing a ring of blades down from on high
- Bankai: A giant dome that removes the 5 senses from the target

Hitsugaya
- Shikai: Sword gains a chain, can do ice attacks
- Bankai: Hitsugaya gains an ice dragon outfit

These are just a few of the ones shown - Kisuke, Soi Fon, Yamamoto, Kyouraku, Rose... all of them had far greater changes to their zanpakuto, by going bankai, than Gin had

Now, I just wish that he'd had a little more - considering what an awesome character he was

Also the way the Soul Society Arc was constantly hinting at him being the main villain, only to switch him out for Aizen at the end, was one of the best aspects about that arc.

That's actually what made Soul Society arc best arc in the Bleach overall for me.

That aside are individual abilities and wit. We seen Noitora with some trickery defeating Nel, who was 5 ranks above. It is possible that Yammy would be defeated by some espada above because he has no concept of tactics.

Argument probably relates to something like where Aizen stated that any significantly powerful Raitsu could overpower any weaker ability - I'm one who just thinks that Aizen was bullshitting, when he said this to Soi Fon (maintaining delusions like this are how I get to sleep at night)

It was also something that Zaraki said to Ichigo however it full of plot holes if we assume it's right.. for example Gin Bankai worked on Aizen +...

Well, Ichigo was a bit different, I'd argue
He hadn't any control over his power - so he was, pretty much, fighting with a blunt blade

This was evident when he decided to 'sharpen his focus [reiatsu]', after a bitch slapping talking to, from Zangetsu

Ichigo didn't get stronger, he just gained more focus/control over his power - and, following that, he was able to cut Kenpachi with no difficulty at all

There's no reason captains/high powered characters shouldn't be adept at this kind of thing

That's it. It's likely that his Shikai possesses a similar ability, he just hid it. I like his Bankai for how simple it is.

My only problem with Gin is the people that put him on an incredibly high pedestal. He's a skilled Captain, a genius in some aspects, but he didn't really do anything impressive power wise. Him barely getting the drop on Aizen is it.

As for Yammy, yeah, he's the strongest since he had Zero, but it didn't amount to much since he didn't have hax. Also, he was fighting Zaraki (and Byakuya), so his title didn't really matter. Plot wasn't on his side.

Definitely one of the better Espada
I loved the look of his resurrection, especially his 2nd one, though I don't buy that Aizen didn't know about it

As an anime aside, the fight with Hichigo... the animation was awesome!

Being one of the only Arrancar to get any love and attention from Kubo, it's no wonder he's ranked as highly as he is here
(he was in 1st place, till 5 PMs prior to the last one)
