Was never huge on Gin. Memorable character but forget his Bankai his Shikai always bothered me. I mean a sword that shoots out... a sword gun basically. Really didn't tickle my fancy. Still for story reasons he probably would have made my top 20 if that was a thing.

Ulquiorra I'll never forgive. What I'll never forgive him for is creating Ulquiorra X Orihime shippers. So I wouldn't have voted for him unless it came down to a choice between him or Renji/Ishida.

I tried, at least I tried...

Without a doubt, Mayuri is my number 1 character in Bleach - he's possibly one of my all time favourite characters in any manga

unlike Aizen, who's boresome
Mayuri's style is awesome
his fashion sense, impeccable
his abilities, formidable
his attitude, commendable
his morals, deplorable

sure, he's a terrible person - but that's what makes him interesting
he's not some holier-than-thou do-gooder - he's something far more interesting

he's also one of the few captains to actually act in a sensible, thoughtful, manner - and is not above telling the other captains what fucking idiots they are being (releasing their bankais when they know that the enemy can instantly steal bankais, being a prime example)

he also only cares about the important things - and is more than willing to ignore trifling, pointless, details

Also, not only is his character design great, but the writing for Mayuri is some of the best in Bleach.
He has the best quotes - and the best witticisms

Mayuri doesn't just fight with kido or his zanpakuto, but with all his scientific abilities and knowledge
Want to hit your target from range? How about some kind of weird brain sickle...
Opponent has ability to destroy your internal organs? No problem, just replace all your own organs with dummies

He planted bugs inside of that damnable Quincy, so he could see and hear everything that the Quincy sees and hears... that's insane (and an action of dubious morality)

and his zanpakuto... oh how I love it
The shape when released is unique, the abilities it offers are not only dangerous, but also interesting - and his Bankai is terrifying
That baby crying noise, when it is released, is insanely creepy

Then, because it's Mayuri, he goes and 'upgrades' his Bankai?!?
Science is a powerful ally indeed

This is a character who doesn't only change his clothes every arc (unlike the other captains who might go so far as to change their hairstyle), but also his body, blade, and his very soul...

He's a far more complex a character than the usual fan favourites...

Oh, how I wish that we had ended the game earlier - way back when he was in 1st place
those were better times, indeed...
(also, Aizen was in 10th, when Mayuri was in 1st )

Mayuri's character might never have reached perfection - but, honestly, he never even wanted to

@Aizen This blasphemy from you .

It is funny because I don't really disagree with any of Zimb's points on Aizen (other than him "ruining" the series, I think there were several other reasons of equal or greater importance for Bleach's decline), yet I still find him to be one of the most memorable characters in the series haha. I left him lower on my list because I do think a few other characters have far superior character arcs, but after I exhausted those slots, I went for pure hype/mayhem. I could not in good conscience leave Aizen off my list with that criteria in mind.

Well, for me , he is up there purely for the entertainment value he brought to the table and the hype moments , when he was included there. Some of the best panels of bleach has his presence. Even in last arc, I liked his interaction with yhwach and few here and there moments, Plotwise, is he too broken ? Oh yeah, he is, but still didn't reduce for me the entertainment he brought with his appearances.

Definitely one of the better Espada
I loved the look of his resurrection, especially his 2nd one, though I don't buy that Aizen didn't know about it

As an anime aside, the fight with Hichigo... the animation was awesome!

Being one of the only Arrancar to get any love and attention from Kubo, it's no wonder he's ranked as highly as he is here
(he was in 1st place, till 5 PMs prior to the last one)
