Some numbers:

One Piece actually has sold 600k copies more than Kimetsu.
I believe this part of your post is quite wrong.

Thanks to @MangAniMY's pie chart, we know that Kimetsu has sold 8,136,912 as of October 6th
As for One Piece:

It sold 5,015,325 in the first half of the year.
Then, we have to make some estimations for the end of may, for June and for September, but I'll come back to that later.
Then, it sold 2,174,006 in July (Source)
Then it sold 340,970 in August (Source)
Then it sold 1,252,449 volumes this week .

Even without the end of May, June and September, One Piece is at 8,782,750. Which corresponds to your 600k copies. I'm guessing you used that 4chan data (I think it was from 4chan ?) that claimed One Piece had sold 7,530,301 volumes as of September 29th. But that was plain wrong as that number corresponds precisely to the exact sales data we have for OP (First-Half+July+August: 5015325+2174006+340970=7530301): it's missing two and a half months !
With some Shoseki data, we can estimate One Piece is around 400k above that number (50k for the end of may, 100k for June and 250k for September)

Man forget about Samurai 8, instead read Spy X Family....
I'm reading it too.
Just that I find great potential in S8 which can bloom once given enough time

don't where he got it, but source should be baidu/weibo unless the actual source is from another youtaiju account holder, which is not impossible

WOHA! Over 360k sales for KnY in 3 days??? Holy shit!
And SxF new volume sold almost 110k in 3 days while its first volume finally got over 300k sold copies (not including digital sales)! YAY~ <3
Oo
oO
I really never would have expected for S8 to only sell 12k and 11k. I don't think it will make top50 with those kinda sales.

Holy shit, it's even worse than I thought. Even with Shoseki, I thought Samurai would cross 20k mark easily.
KImetsu boost is impressive as always. JJK is so close to overtaking BC.
And that without a 100+ episode anime. I hope JJK'a anime gonna be closer to what Kimetsu got than what BC got though.

Shout out for the 5.6% of users who guessed it right
Hats off to them to seriously pick 10-20k and then with 12k and 11k almost losing to the few chumps who voted lower than 10k. 1k and 2k difference, really not that much.

Lol, I can just imagine the emergency meetings Shueisha is having with Kishimoto and his editor. Curious to see how S8 changes because of this development.
I expect some people at Jump to drown their sorrow of S8 flopping that hard in sake.

World trigger sell like 300k or more.
I had 400k in memory or close to it.

been avoiding S8 talks since it's getting repetitive
so I'll approach from a different angle

do we know what was the first print for each S8 volume?
if they printed 30k then i think this is ok
if they printed 50k then this is underperforming
if they printed 100k then this is a disaster
if they gave it a print as big as Hero/Neverland/Hq/KnY then heads will start flying and hopefully Nak will be among them
So if they printed 200k we can expect some changes in Jump to come around? Might be interesting to see what a new wind could bring in WSJ.

We've talk more about Sam8's sales than the fact that Kimetsu v17 is only 10k away from HQ's peak sales which went on to sell 1 million. Really shows where our priorities lie. :teehee

just gonna put comparable number with 3 (or less days)

honestly the thing that was limiting kimetsu value was how many days it have as LTD

nothing that make companies more mad then making a big investment and not making it back
selling 10k copies out of 200k printed copies is a huge flop
i don't know how much Nakano and the rest o the editorial department is responsible for this but whoever is in charge of making that overprinting/overstocking decision (if they actually did that) will definitely lose his job

I don't think this is a 1-person-mistake, but a mistake from the whole editorial for betting blindly on Kishimoto. I'm pretty sure no one in any department actually doubted Samurai 8 would sell a good amount of copies, because all this campaign was way planned since the beginning. Advertisement, promotion, whatever marketing strategy they had prepared for volume releases has been prepared since we got the first teaser of the series, and if the planning, investigations, statistics and data gathered in order to predict the series performance, went wrong, then the whole editorial and every single department is partially to be blamed. Like, in a well-structured organization, it's impossible for 1 person to be in charge of every single production that comes from a series: there's way more a lot of people involved. They all just overestimated the single factor in which they based all the campaign for the series, which is obviously Kishimoto's recognition as we have already seen in volumes wraparound and every single ad for the series, in which his name was greatly highlighted.

Anyway, this is all the impression this whole situation has given me. It's not like I have any kind of proof about how this organization works, but I have been studying advertising and marketing for more than a year already and I don't think the theoric logistics of how this whole sector works may differ much from how it is in reality. I mean, in the end, I was one of those expecting the series to sell at least 50k first week, not going to lie, lol.

I don't think the result of s8 is because of one particular reason it due to main things from small to big.
the interesting thing is kishi expected it reception of series wouldn't be that high at the early stage but i didn't think he expected his to happen.
s8 more of sci-fi story than people comparing to other series like astra space and eden zero but thing is even thought all three series are of same genre s8 is more of sci-fi series. when compared to Eden zero the series doesn't really explain the future world it just states and uses scifi element as to inform it being advance technology. so both s8 and eden is adventure in space the requirement is space ship to travel it and get crew and visit different place etc but when it comes to s8 he uses holders for it which is interesting concept but now he as to explain it or it will be magic component not sic-fi same with other things like samurai body, soul sword, locker balls too many concepts which clearly shows he actually thought it alot about world. he introduces more than 10 concept (locker ball samurai body regeneration holder soul swords, trinity, princess, two boxes ) in like first seven chapters while series like eden zero take place in the futuristic world but has normal structure of battle shonen where sci-fi is secondary element not main focus maybe until later and s8 took 13 plus chapter to leave the planet and 17 plus introduced other members crew in the series which is slow for shonen jump readers.
it is clear kishi knew sci-fi genre is not that popular and people will be interested once he finished initial setup but i didn't think he expected his result and they even released vol 1and 2 at once so that people could read the whole prologue at once.
it came with hype with a genre not many interested in and has different structure early in the story where he introduces world and concepts and goes to character arc for mc. while other series from ch 2- 5 gets training to some faction of series with the main story and few things that he can't do anything about negative thing which comes due to his name, few people think its creepy when a samurai opens his head.
my opinon is either give him some time to see what next 3 vol deos or shift to other magazine or even cancel but don't try to change what is different than other series like heavy sci-fi elements. i hope they don't go the route of cut expositions and making it more of battle shonen than sci-fi series just see if it grows if not just transfer or axe it.
i remember when people said kny is routine shonen anime aired but it had interesting characters and god tier animation after ep 19 everything changed and now its one of big series and i like s8 it being somewhat different but not for all but people chainsawman for the same reason for it being different than normal shonen series.

I think double-release does more harm than good to the series. Not only its double the lost on overprinted, it also erases the opportunity for earlier feedback that could help Kishk improve his story, and prepare better for second volume sales.

Maybe people will start buying a lot of volumes now to check why it's such a disaster.

On one hand it makes sense because the story doesn't actually pick up until volume 2 but on the other hand they're pretty much saying there's no reason to buy the first volume since nothing happens and its boring so what exactly is the point other than getting people up to speed quickly so they don't lose interest after the first volume?

Well, if we're going to be accurate, Vol. 1 did 12k and Vol. 2 did 11k in 3 Days Before the Oricon Ranking was cut off for that week. Shouldn't we wait and see what a full week looks like for it before passing ultimate Judgement?

Or at least compare it to other Jump Manga 3 day debut? I'd like to know what MHA, Kimetsu, TPN, Dr. Stone and BC did their first 3 days.
