And if I was shitting on Killblue all the time I would have been banned by now. And that didn't happen, so stop playing the victim, okay.

First two episodes of Sakamoto Days were... good! As a SD fanboy this was better than what I think me/most online people were lowering their expectations to be. It was becoming all a bit much mind you but that makes the output we got seem not that bad at all.

Keeping in mind this very early stretch of the manga was when it hadn't yet found its identity proper. It wasn't until the end of the Amusement Park conflict with Mr. Hardboiled that it started to become the series it's identified with - that will be the first real test for me in how they handle that iconic double spread in the ferris wheel. If these initial few episodes are the least exciting compared to the material we have coming then this was still pretty good, assuming they're smart about knowing where to better put the high effort into. Even so, the action scenes we got so far were good (as was the Christmas flashback). There at least seems to be a base level it's operating at which certainly isn't bad, it's just not going to be a MAPPA-level adaptation or what was expected. I reckon the average anime watcher is going to enjoy it and it's serviceable enough that we might still get a decent/good bump.

My theory has always been that this first cour will get a lot of critiques (perhaps rightfully so) but considering it'll be adapting up to the end of the Lab arc, it's not really the peaks of the series by that point. Cour 2 in summer will be the Death Row Prisoners arc and the JCC Transfer Exams arc, undoubtably better material that I think has a higher chance by that point of another spike around that stretch.

I also read the two one-shots that have been translated from this year so far. APPLE was really really good; I love how visceral it was in using that political backdrop and Yoichi Amano's artwork was excellent (Apple had a hot bod too, nice). Not something I see adjusting to a serialisation but definitely would like this duo to keep at it. Interdimensional Cyborg Prototype Zero on the other hand was whatever. The artwork felt more Jump+ to me (less detailed, felt amateurish) and the entire premise relied on paranoia and miscommunication that ended up being pointed out how pointless it was, which is how it felt to me reading the whole thing. Very by the numbers and stretched out.

just watched the sakadays episode. it's not objectively bad, but having read the manga i cannot imagine this quality lasting longer than a full season....yet we're getting 2 cours of this...

hopefully cour 2 is an improvement but i'm on cope here

sorry, I am not saying you have to find Shinuki funny, I really didn't either. I didn't even say it was funny. But it is clear he is just trolling and you're acting like he truly believes it

And "playing the victim?", I admit I phrased it poorly but I don't give a crap if you like kill blue or not. What I meant is you're letting it blind you to fact that Shinuki is baiting you. You can like whatever you want.

The first episode of Sakamoto days was good. I'm happy the dub came out the same day just like some of the other netflix anime

Watching the Sakamoto anime, and it is really good.

Next episode of Sakamoto Days is about Lu, meaning that it seems they're skipping chapters 2 and 3. Which for chapter 3 sorta makes sense as it's very episodic and introduces a police officer character that never appears again.

My opinion of the first episode was that it was solid. I think the animation was fine. Music was good and so were the VA choices. I really hate the filter they have over everything though. That's my main criticism.

If they can at least maintain this level of animation throughout the whole show then, eh, that's okay, I'll take it.

i'm definitely leaning on the negative side as someone who's been a day 1 reader. i'll keep watching, but i'm really not a fan of the designs and animation choices so far. incredible casting and music choices though!

as a fan of sakamoto, i can say that I'm really glad with the anime adaptation. Anime is a different media from the manga, so the diference is quite clear. But is a good adaptation of the manga so far
