well title is self-explanatory, while I was working on the cleaning and scanning practices and looking up tuts I saw QCer and I have no idea what they are/what they do

so....anyone willing to help????

Hahaha.. depends on the group...

Most of the time, QCer are people who are VERY FLUENT in English, has very STRICT standards and VERY GOOD eye to detail.

They usually check the translations to English-proof it, avoiding anything that can be "Lost in Translation".

They can demand editors to redo or fix or add something or remove something at their whim, but of course, with good reason. :P

Some QCers can go make changes/fixes themselves.

They do the final check of the project, sifting out typos by the typesetters, things the editors need to fix, weird English phrases, etc.

Not everyone can be a QCer though, it may seem easy but it's not...

Basically what ddadain said.

Quality Control makes sure that things are done correctly and things are consistent from page to page.

They make sure everything is typeset correctly, spelled correctly, and grammatically accurate according to the script. They also make sure that things like blacks are done correctly, whites are cleaned thoroughly the grays are done consistently with the same pattern or shade. They make sure that borders are consistent, aligned, and same size.

You have to have good eyes, and if you're in the first stage of QC where you actually fix the problems, then you have to be a good cleaner.

Not to mention you have to be extremely patient.

in basic QCing, does the QCer package the actual manga himself or just send in a script outlining the basic problems of each page? O_O..

Well, it really depends on the group how much the QC actually does. But there is no basic script. The QC has to do an in-depth of a page, and if qualified they'll fix the problem. In TMI the qualified cleaners will go through QC and fix the problems, then they're passed onto the chapter QC who goes through and looks through the final product, typesetting and all, and search for more problems.
