Who's your favorite character in Berserk?

I find Guts to be a well-written character. Golden Age is perhaps my all-time favorite arc I have read for any series for any genre. I also found Casca and Judeau to be very likeable.

After the Eclipse though, Schierke is becoming a favorite of mine. Farnese, Serpico, and the other lot aren't bad and are well-developed, but it's Schierke that is keeping my attention as is Guts change in personality. Casca is meh, though she continues to be well-drawn.

I think Skull Knight's character is really cool as well. An analogy for him is Merlin is to Arthur, what Skull Knight is to Guts.

I would have to say Gatsu overall, but with Farnese at a close second (I love her evolution over the course of the series, and the fact that she's the only person I've seen in any manga that was fingering herself to the thought of burning people alive...very smexy. ^_^).

A lot of reasons!
He's very strong, not physically but psychologically! He's smart and argute, his personality is quiet and serious but funny at the same time!
He helps all the people that need a hand and he is kind with all, Korcus (an impossible man O_O) too! I like his rightness, even if he always loved Caska, he understood Gatsu's feelings and gave him good advices in order to let them fall in love together!

Judeau is a great friend and a sincere boy, that gave his life for the saveness of his beloved person... isn't he a splendid guy?

Gutts because he is the most interesting hero, anti-hero (or whatever you call him) i've ever seen.
Caska due to her helplessness.
Skull Knight, because he looks cool and he kicks asses.
Schielke, i just like her.


The ones i hate are:

Serpico and farnese i just dont like them, he burned his own mother and he is gay and farnese is a crazy psycho and her character. and their characters are not interesting.

Are you serious? I love Griffith's character. He's a cold hearted lady killer. His ideals are similar to mine. Nothing but your goal matters everything else is but a means to an end. Sure he lacks any appreciation for the people that raised him to become a god but hes gotta be a villain somehow. Not to mention that with the whole demon child issue, things have really gotten complicated.

He's the exact opposite of the stereotypical villain. He has amazingly good looks.



And unlike other villains with good looks, he's both super smart and very powerful. The ultimate hero.. who became a villain.

My answer to my own question would be: Ubik, Donovan and Wyald. I'm just not impressed by Ubik, he looks too similar in style to Conrad, who imo is a bit cooler. Donovan a ugly homo with fugly eyes who raped guts in the butthole.. Whats not to like..right?
and Wyald, I just hate his character. He rapes the torso of a dismembered young women.. just EWW!
Oh and my most hated character: Nina I hate her ass soo much. I just can't stand people who pretend they're helpless and can only depend on others.

Also, I particularly like uber-evil Guts from the first volumes. Why? I'll just put some of his epic lines to explain that.

Guts: I don't like you elves much
Puck: Why?
Guts: Because you're weak. I feel like I want to crush you.

Count's daughter: I wish this never happened. I wish I was dead.
Guts: Just die then. Grab that knife and cut your wrists, it's easy.

Imo, thats a gross under analysis of that part of the manga and Guts character. Lets not forget that when the counts daughter told Guts she would kill him, he told her that she could "come anytime." But in the scene after that,



Gut's face and expression tell us of a whole other story. He told her to kill herself as advice and in fact it was valid advice. If she continues to live on she will always be in pain from her memories and the uncertainty of her future. She might be sold as a prostitute or something equally bad. If she kills herself now, she will escape the pains and sorrows of living. Of course his advice is more complicated then that. In a way it was also a motivation, she obviously hates him and when she threatens that she will kill him, he tells her to come anytime. Which gives her a reason to live. And during that entire scene, it's actually Guts who is in the most pain, he just destroyed another persons life and he has to carry the burden of his actions. Not only that, he also used himself to motivate the girl to live. If she hates his very existence and wants to kill him, she will try to live on.

Sorry about my super long rant. I just felt that you may have missed one of the meanings behind that scene.

I didn't miss it, I just wanted to say that I like that part of the character, since Guts complex mind had already been mentioned in previous posts. It's extremely rare that the main character of a manga would say lines like that (in fact it's the only one I know) so I tried to show that
