Haha, true! I hadn't really noticed before as it's a rather common pose in shounen but the two are in fact more similar than one would expect

Battlefranky from APforums has found Oda's "announcement"...and it's somewhat sad news for OP fans:

Oda [While Togashi's back it's been decided that the series will be taken out of the publication. It'll be shifted to a 10 week cycle instead]

Essentially as it's interpreted is this: when HxH is running, OP will be on hiatus. After the next chapter, there will be no more OP until the latest HxH cycle is over. And there is another catch: if ten weeks goes by after OP returns and HxH is ready, OP may go on hiatus again for ten more weeks of HxH.

The news is essentially craptastic: I know Togashi is weird but this is just the height of insanity. Why does Oda become his sacrificial lamb? Why not just rotate all successful series one a week until the HxH cycle is over? Why are the editors doing this...heck why is Oda going along with it? I just don't get it at all...and I fear what the other fans are going to say about it.

The only bit of good news I can take out of this is this: One Piece has possibly vaulted in my head out of the "Big Three" (where it was with Naruto and Bleach) and entered "untouchable" territory (where lies KochiKame and...oh, HxH)

This f***ing s**t. Hunter x Hunter is a very good series, deserving the praise and popularity it's earned. But why let One Piece take the hit for it when there are so many crappy series ready to be canceled. Why not just kill Haken now and get it over with? The Amazon - Lily arc has been to good to be put on hold.

And yeah, One Piece is untouchable. Sales and rankings no longer matter, probably haven't in a long time. OP is as popular now, or more, then it was five years ago. Someday sales will go down, just like Kochikame doesn't sell what it once does, but it will run as long as Oda wants it to.

Heh, I could care less. I must be the only person who likes Jump and doesn't like One Piece. I would much rather have HxH in the mag. I guess this means that nobody will be canceled this year. This is good news for new series. I am happy to hear this. This way, HxH doesn't hurt anyone.

At least two series will still be canceled to make way for the December debuts. Cuts will begin in November.

Volume sales for the new series? Nothing's selling for the ones in the danger zone. New volumes of Mago, Sket, Haken, and Psyren came out last week so we'll see if they improve. Mago's slide in the polls may indicate book stores weren't ordering a lot of copies of volume 2. Shueisha seems to be anticipating high demand for Toriko, but that's been an exception among new series.

I feel paralyzed by the news...just like I was hit by some f***ing paving stone.

It's one thing to have One Piece on hiatus for 10 weeks but it's another to think this could go on whenever Togashi thinks he might be in the mood of working.
Srsly...I just hope Japanese One Piece Fans will burn down Jump Festa and rampage so that Shueisha will see how much this decision sucks.

And Togashi has turned from a lazy bum I didn't really care about into public enemy.
He should continue play videogames or do some pilot license or crap like that...I'm really craving this is no permanent measure. *crosses his fingers*

I'm thinking the only reason OP is turning into H x H is because Oda wants it that way. Jump would never, ever wanted there most popular series to go on regular hiatus. One Piece is the second most popular manga ever and shows no signs of slowing down. There's probably no need to blame the editors or Togashi, Oda must want it this way.

That's what I suspected. Maybe Oda just wants a break or something; he works really hard, and how long has OP been running for? It's sad news for OP fans (I am not one, admittedly), but I doubt it's Jump's fault here. Knowing them, they'd have cancelled a series for HxH, not taken OP out on rotation.

(Okay, I'm just happy it's not DGM - I wouldn't have put it past them to do that.)

I know how H x H fans feel now. Well, not yet, but I will soon :/

OP's celebrated it's eleventh anniversary in August. Oda's been at it a ridiculously long time, and will probably continue for a lot longer. If he wants to do fewer chapters a year I (grudgingly) understand.

Well...you two sure have a point there. I/The One Piece fans will just have to wait for Oda's message which will hopefully explain things.
If Sensei needs a break, he should get it of course...but Oda always seemed to me as if he enjoys his work to the fullest.

What kills me most right now is the incertitude as to why things were decided that way and how this will affect One Piece as a whole (I see problems concerning the anime, OP's own story telling pace, in sales)...

Hunter x Hunters sales haven't been hurt, so we'll have to hope for the best for OP. There may be problems for the anime down the road. Sucks that it came when the plot was particularly interesting and so many questions remain unanswered.

to stop it here too. these are a few things combined and the 10 weeks cycle for OP was not confirmed. whats true is, that OP will take a break after chapter 518 - a regular one supposedly and that Oda will personally mae a comment at the end of next chapter.

I think people should wait till it's 100% official. It could be he's announcing something about his selfmade movie this year (don't forget he was going to create the story all by himself).

If he decides for a longer break then it's possible he has other jobs to do promotions or something (but then again a cycle break shifting with HxH is so unlikely). But him being the sacrificial lamb for HxH will hurt HxH and wsj (shueisha can't take that decision given op's popularity and if so then I might conclude oda decided this for himself) more than one piece. One piece is too popular to risk insane things

I am confident about things: if this is true then be it (and it might be his own decision) but it can be anything else too

Well we still really don't know about what the announcement is but BF sort of apologized for the last one. We do know OP is off the week after this, but we still don't really know what Oda's message is. I apologize for making anyone worry but I guess when we have Jump news...I pass it along.
