Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

I don't see it being Kurogane, Nisekoi, or Packy because all three just received colors for doing well. There is still a chance but my bet is on either Mirror World or Magico regardless of how high they may climb occasionally.
It'll be interesting to see if Mirror World's first volume gets into the top 50 in it's second week of sales. Right now it's spent as much time below Magico in the TOC as it has above it over the last 10-12 weeks or so. It's first week (five days) sales of volume one stands at 44,215 to Magico volume 3's 43,182 for the first two weeks (ten days). So posting some good results in it's second week would be one of the few things that would give it a real edge over Magico. Then again, it's already got an edge in that it's by a previously established author with an existing fanbase, so that might skew what Jump considers to be acceptable performance from it.

I disagree, Magico is recovering very slowly, only drop for me is STARS.
Kurogane rank will have done good, but did not sell anything, so if we are to make the bill for sales, Kurogane should be one of the possible drop.

nisekoi and pakki are too young to be evaluated, are a good start, as almost all serum lately, but after collapse, the only one that has stood in the toc and Kurogane, but it was a flop in sales, you have to do with number 2 gets along, just waiting for me that, if they see that even with 2 nos sells, Kurogane big risk for me.

Magico is recovering and in touch, and sales, albeit slightly, increased, the only one who is a little better than Magico is Kagami.

In the last three years every series has debuted as part of a pair with one exception: Kuragane. What leads you to believe they will make another exception to salvage a series that has never made the Oricon top 30 and has not polled in the top ten since May 2010? Two weeks hardly counts as a revival, particularly when it is still hovering so close to the bottom.

Actually Hanasaka Ikkyu debuted alone ^^ (unless that's when Hunter x Hunter came back...can't recall exactly.) That's why I sort of found it strange that they did the same thing with Kurogane.

Magico was altanelante always, remember that its the dark period she experienced when she experienced the bow "violent" of "tree mage".

that arch over you and always placed discreetly altanelando bottom with mid-table positions.

Kurogane is the thing that started alone for me is not really count, we see that there were no new series to be proposed, and after the continuous strip of drop they did, maybe they wanted to slow down a bit.

the "TOC" is not everything, you have to count sales, and by averaging, right now, and put the best kagami, which has sold well and has discrete TOC, followed by Magico, who has had a lot TOC altanelanti with sales discrete, and as the final Kurogane, who will have good TOC, but sold very little (less than the first week of 14000 copies)

at the end what matters most of JUMP and sell, or see MAGO or HunterxHunter, TOC, and only a part of an assessment system more complex.

you guys are always forgetting to take into consideration the fact that Kurogane is Ikezawa Haruto's debut work. Naoshi Komi and Yasuhiro Kano already has their fanbases (from Double Arts and Mx0 respectively). Not to mention Ikezawa Haruto's pretty young and what with it's recent slew of color pages (four pages, that's a lot), i think Jump's editorial department is trying to promote the series. I think it's pretty safe from cancellation right now.

You also promote stuff so that it will rise, because it's down in sales. This happened very often in the past, especially for unstable series. Looking at your ava, I can't really see you being unbiased.

altanelando, altanelanti, altanelante ? This is an english forum, so please use english words, dict is very helpful. The only one I was able to translate was: altalenante : shakily And it was even wrongly spelt. :P

Ah, you're right. I suppose that is why Kuragane was not a part of a pair: it replaced the quickly canceled Ikkyuu. Still does not improve the chances that only a single series will be debuting this round. That would mean only one new series since early November. Not very realistic.

I don't see Kurogane is being unstable series. The ranking is being steady and the editors consider more on ranking than tank sales for young series. Thus, there are actually no reason for Kurogane will be axed.

I'm not sure if they will only cancel one series (with STARS definitely being a goner) or two but it most likely won't be Magico. The series still remains within it's normal pace and new enemies appearing, there is absolutely no sign of a rushed ending. You could clearly see (and predict) a cancellation in Enigma's case just reading the chapters and it's length back then was something around Magico's current length. Whatever the WSJ staff is planning, I don't see them cancelling Magico at this moment.

Maybe they even want to go along with their current new group of series (exception STARS) which did pretty good compared to what happened to most new series in the last years.

I agree that Magico is definitely safe for upcoming cancellation. Plus, I don't see any series which will end within 3 or 4 chapters, so I think there is high possibility that there going to be just one series out and one new series will enter.

Unless the editors want to put another new one, then I think another should move to SQ. So far, Mago has started new arc, so I think it is in good place to move to SQ; I think D.Gray-man was also moved around same time the new arc started.

You really think that Jump will only add one series after three months. You actually think they would go from the first week of November to the first week of February and only add one new manga. All to benefit a year old series that sells worse than it polls :oh

The chances of Jump only one new series is about as good as Amazon ranks predicting sales.

Well, there is only one series which to be axed, so I'm not sure if there will be enough room for two new series. I though there will be two new series since they put one shots, but Drmke said that the one shots are only filled for Bleach's place.

So, I'm not sure if current Jump has enough space for two new series.

Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

They won't cancel Magico. Period. Enigma was rock bottom for months before it got canceled. Magico tasted the bottom, but it stabilized pretty decently. WSJ only cancels series that are constantly poor performers.

ST&RS is pretty much doomed. It had an interesting premise, but shonen tropes don't really work in that type of genre. That's also a terrible ranking for Kuroko. It's not in any danger, but still, that must have been a terrible chapter. HxH is always in the bottom five. Its fanbase probably grew out of WSJ a decade ago, which is why its sales are so high and its rankings are so low.

Harisugawa is hanging on. Magico and Kurogane are doing pretty well, too. Pakky is heading straight to rock bottom. These are preliminary rankings, but it's not a good sign that it dropped that much already.

Why do you think Pakky is doomed? It is ranked in the middle.

and you invalidate the points I brought up just because I happen to like Kurogane. sheesh. >_>

Promotion or not, Jump rarely gives out that many color pages. Only veteran manga (OP's timeskip and Kochikame's 35th anniversary come to mind) had that many color pages recently. The editorial department itself must have high hopes for the manga, since they gave it four.

Ikezawa Haruto's age is also a plus for Kurogane (he's just 22). As mentioned in Bakuman, they want to cultivate the younger generation of authors. This being his debut work (unlike Naoshi Komi or Kano Yasuhiro), it's not really surprising that it didn't sell as well as Kagami's first volume did.

And also, Kurogane is a sports manga. Like it or not, it's a dying genre. Jump's more lenient towards sports series (take Kuroko no Basket for example), I think.
