The naming conventions, as well as logo design doesn't really differ a ton here, sport by sport.

Baseball is pretty different than the other sports. Football, basketball, and hockey mostly have generic names and logos. College sports have the best mascots. University of California, Santa Cruz Banana Slugs are my favorite.

Not terribly so, in my opinion. If you look at any team in any sport, that's old enough, it'll have something less generic.
