Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

There is a bit of a yearly difference, but the series is still higher than it was prior to Strong World and the timeskip. I don't think it really speaks to anything significant, the sales are still absurdly high, dwarfing almost anything else.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

One Piece sells 3 million, or something around that, why are you complaining?
As Kaiten said, it is an insignificant percentage, we don't know why those people didn't buy the volumes, there is a bunch of reasons. It includes the possibility that they are reading the series in the magazine and they are waiting to buy the volumes or something, it is quite good for Jump.
There are many factors besides volumes sales to measure the popularity of the series. I don't understand this sensationalism about this.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

People, People don't forget about the time that Oda ended sick so the Volumes were all delayed and had less time to sell. Even if the volumes are having a decrease in sales is not as huge as loosing an average of 400k per volume.

because the whole point was discussing volume sales not popularity :) and how op used to sell 3M and now it doesn't seem to do so and wondering will it again be able to or not :) and of course the decrease is and will be small but will it continue over time or is it a temporary thing, so i guess volume 72 will tell

MiyamotoMusashi's analysis seems to be the most objective

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

isn't that OP sold that high because of hype at that time? its like SNK this year. but that just "hype" bring to the series.. nothing more nothing less.
but what more important is when the sell stabilize. now is that time. and it show that that 'hype' did increase OP popularity and volume sale big time.
just look at per volume sales before the hype and now. that's almost like 600000 to 1 million increment.
i don't understand what is the problem..

You argued that One Piece's sale is increased due to hype. So, I want to know what kind of hype did One Piece get to increase its sales.

It already got an anime and couple of movies; so, what else that can be useful for increasing One Piece's volume sale.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Strong World and 200 million mark i guess.
before that, OP doesn't even reach 2 million for new volume in one year

I'm not sure Strong World and 200 million is actually a hype.

The main reason that One Piece's increase was the Whitebeard arc; after that, the part 2 isn't really much interesting.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

yeah, if you say so. they are all happen at the same time or one after the others. plus, with Shueisha and Toei heavy promotion..
personally, i think WB arc suck.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

off course.. that is why "personally".. so i can't understand the hype about it. and that is why i didn't included it in my hypothesis.. not a debate at all.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Sorry, it's hard to group "hype" and One Piece together. The series has been around for 15 years, it's obviously not an overnight success. Shueisha promoted it, but who would blame them for that?

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

but who blamed them?

and this so called "hype" was not the first time for OP.. IIRC during Arabasta/Baroque Work arc climax, OP breaking first printing record couple of time until it finally breaking Slam Dunk's 2.55 million copies record with 2.67 million copies first printing for volume 27, then becoming the fastest manga to reach 100 million mark.

and Shueisha/Toei did the same like they did now for OP too. personally, i think what they did at that time were even better than 200 million mark celebrations.

the swelled because of hype" doesn't last long. off course people can come up with why the sell dwindling down, but one of them definitely because of the "hype" only last for so long.

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

There was certainly a mass phenomenom. Shueisha didn't make it but the media and the word of mouth. Like all serie who have a sudden boost. Intersting thing is that One Piece is a serie for which it happened 2 times

Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Kishibe Rohan's rank will not move. Glad to see Hoozuki no Reitetsu doing well. The anime hasn't even started yet, has it? It could do really well.

Can anybody explain to me how Sakamoto Desuga? got so popular so fast?
