It looked like it could have gone the other way until the very end. Awesome match from the Algerian, I feel a bit bad for them.

Hats off to Algeria. World class effort. Played better than most teams so far. Seriously. I say that because (despite what all the proud Germans might say...) Germany played pretty well, but couldn't break through for a loong time.


Also hats of to Neuer, that german talented bastard. I felt like I was playing Captain Tsubasa 2 where the German keeper was a huge wall...

Not only Brazil suffered, but everybody (except Columbia) suffered. Not to mention we played against Chile.

Indeed. It was the best match until the very last moment. Algeria playing on pair with Germany was memorable. In the end they were worn out and gave space, but they don't have anything to be ashamed of.
More than France and Germany, today was the day of Nigeria and Algeria, they did very well.

The funniest is still Spain vs. Netherlands though.

Kudos to Algeria, they put in a fantastic shift to not only keep the germans at bay, but give as good as they got. The fact that the game wasn't still decided until that second goal, speaks volume for the team. I'm glad they got rewarded with that goal in the end.

I'm a bit concerned about the german defence, especially the central pair; Algeria had a dangerous situation with a straight pass that split the defense and nearly got through if it wasn't for Boateng's late intervention. They'll have to stay focused against France; though I'd still edge them over Les Bleus.

Our problem is the lack of right backs. The moments Lahm went back on the right side it was fine. You just can't win with 4 central backs.

Germany won. Brazil just had a draw against Chile.

France were sort of favored in that WC, perhaps only because the WC was in France, but that's the only reason Brazil are favored in Brazil.

Part of the problem was that, as countermeasure against a defensive Algeria, Löw decided to push the defensive line pretty far forward, meaning our defenders played relatively offensive during ball possession. Another is that Mustafi is simply not good enough for this stage, we need Lahm back at right back. Whether it is a good idea or not to change the left back at this stage, who knows, but we have an adequate replacement for Höwedes. Finally, Boateng got a pretty shitty day today.
