you crazy....like one of my favorite sci-fi thrillers
You're the one who's crazy if you think that Blade Runner sequel will be good.

Maybe because I saw it too late, but I didn't like the movie thaaat much...Blade Runner I mean...it is a good movie, but the atmosphere in the book is much better imo, even if the movie is just a loose adaption

And maybe it's the fault of the actors too...I don't like Harrison Ford and im not keen on Rutger Hauer either :p

Just look at Prometheus to tell whether Scott needs to keep making additions to his best franchises...

The movie wasn't bad actually, but meh

I know, I know, it's pretty amazing :D... there are parts and touches in the movie that I really appreciate, and soundtrack is one of those...but I got more immersed in the book so

PS: for some years, I've been listening to soundtracks more, than any other type of music and Blade Runner soundtrack is on my cyberpunk list :D

I wonder if upcoming cyberpunk movies aka Blade Runner 2 and Ghost in the Shell will nail the cyberpunk feeling...I have really high hopes, but I have this feeling it will be too futuristic sci-fi :/

Blade Runner isn't really cyberpunk though...

I mean, I suppose this sequel could very well end up that way because cyberpunk is a thing now, but it wasn't in the early 80s

Well that's debatable...it has a mix of everything...you think it's more appropriate to refer to it as noir?

Well actually, I guess it is cyberpunk...but it was cyberpunk before cyberpunk...proto-cyberpunk :4head

And yeah, it's obviously neo-noir.

It's really a thing now? I've never seen a good cyberpunk movie since Blade Runner and maybe the first Matrix in a sense?

Well, I meant that cyberpunk wasn't really a genre back in the early 80s. I guess Blade Runner was a forerunner in that sense.

I guess ... the term was coined roughly 20 years after the book was released so yeah :p But the movie falls definitely more into the cyberpunk category, mostly because of the timing I think

Ah...I thought you were referring to current times, since you mentioned the sequel...I was afraid there was a cyberpunk reemergence and I missed it lol

It was the early 80s when cyberpunk as a term was coined though...even William Gibson's stories, which are considered the best vision of cyberpunk, were labeled as such after he published some of his works

benelori, Have you read Akira? Have you watched Akira? It's cyberpunk!

Of course :p

I don't think there's a manga/anime that is cyberpunk and I haven't at least tried it :D...unless it's something so obscure that it wasn't scanlated lol

When I say it "wasn't a thing", I mean it wasn't prevalent. Ask anyone back then what cyberpunk was. Ask anyone back then what CYBER meant. :lmao

Well I don't remember those times, so you're probably right :heh

My categorization is based more on what I read about the genre as a whole and the timeline of it's emergence...so I totally get what you're saying...the movie's vision was to be noir, but it also ended up very very close to the cyberpunk genre as it got established later, so I guess the cyberpunk label was applied in retrospect :D

Why do you like cyberpunk?
Cuz it's awesome :D
