Huh, the mangaka of KnY is a woman? Didnt know that, bc you never really can tell with shonen mangaka, though, I kinda can see it how certain characters are written, I guess. Still, interesting to know.

The only thing the new and old generation of Jump's audience agrees on is that they still like the underdog mc, evident from Deku and Asta being received well enough. But it's like we're moving away from the edgy stuff in the totality of it. Korra, Aang, Zuko even were all great cause they all had traumatic instances in their lives that impacted them the rest of the series. It highkey makes you want to see an edgy or chaotic archetype mc succeed in this era. Doubtful cause it wouldn't be fluffy enough.

IIRC somebody from jump festa (2 years ago IIRC) comfirmed it, and if you check her MAL or MU profile she's listed as a woman.

It's been confirmed that she's a she for sure. I wish I kept the confirmation source for it.

Edit: I think it was confirmed in a French volume of the manga or in a French manga magazine.

Im missing where Korra was somehow more likeable than Zuko/Aang. I was sure she was way less entertaining, way less deep, and way less well written than they were.

I wish we had more zukos. Todoroki is close but needs a bit more of Zukos occasional goofiness and cute innocence. I miss him.

I'd argue the characters were great not because they had issues, but because throughout the story they were actively trying to move on from those issues.

It's all in the execution, being edgy for its own sake can easily be detrimental to the story. Especially in a magazine like Jump where having a dark and brooding protagonist is easily confused with being a moody teenager.

I'm just waiting to see another outlier mc Sharkbait. Deku and Emma seem to have broken the mold in recent years but the potential for an even lesser contained mc, compared to them at the least, playing off some of the successful traits we've come to experience would be welcomed. A perspective of a main character with an archetype like one of those 3 from Avatar succeeding? Sign me up.
