Dr Stone needs more of that super push
it's becoming the new Hinomaru, except instead of being stuck in the 30k club it's a 50k club member

but i dunno, I think the manga premise have bigger appeal than Sumo, and it might win some awards here and there which could help it grow

I think it's normal for people to be surprised and curious when the author is a woman, since in shonen this is not very common. But I also agree that often, especially in the current context, the gender is used as a shield, whether in real life or in fiction. See Wonder Woman, it's not a bad movie, however, Jenkins' direction is nothing special, Gadot's acting is nothing special, but people are treating it as if it were. Of course we need more female directors and female protagonists. No doubt. But it's important not to use this as an indicator of quality.

And those saying that Furudate is a woman just because has delicate hands. Holy shit.
goes without saying you shouldn't pick what you like or not based on its creator's gender, and the people that do that are stupid and get on my nerves as much as the next guy

I didn't see anyone doing that here, thankfully the majority of members have the maturity to separate the art from the artist

Jump is a magazine towards teenage boys, generally written by men. It's not calculus trying to figure out why people would be interested in figuring out if a female is writing one, because they generally make manga towards girls. C'mon now

:edit: like I'm obviously not gonna be surprised if a female wrote a book, but in the profession that shes in and what the common demographic is, it's cool to see at times

Also Jump doesn't really have a steep history of prolific female artist in comparison to rival magazines like Sunday so its very interesting see that a few of their most hottest properties at the moment are spearheaded by women. Last decade we only had Hashino (D.Grayman) and Kawashita (Ichigo 100%) as standouts.

Female mangaka in shonen publication is nothing rare at all. But the reverse would be true. Male mangaka in shoujo and josei would be even rarer.

I dont know why its normal for people to be surprised a content creator is female. Theres tons of lead female actors and manga writers. To be surprised a manga author is one seems to imply people are ignoring the countless ones before them even those who have won awards or made widescale contributions.

Females in leadership positions and decision making roles (movie studio or magazine head honchos) is what people should truly be surprised about.
We are talking about Japan, a country that still separates entertainment for boys and for girls. Yeah, there are many women writers, but in mainstream shonen manga (I'm talking about the big ones) this is not so common. It's the same when the opposite happens, many people are surprised when they discover that guys like Ishinomori or Leiji Matsumoto did shoujo in the past.

I honestly like when this mix happens because it shows that the magazines are more flexible. But then again, we should not use this as an excuse to justify poor art.

Nobody said it was rare at all just that Jump doesn't have nearly as big of a catalog of famous female artist in comparison to the rest of the competition. Its been largely male dominated for years so people tend to be surprised when there's a female artist who turns out to be successful.

I completely forgot Reborn honestly.

Yeah I’m hip on what you guys are saying. It’s always dope to hear women authors but to venerate them off the strength they’re women is not how it’s suppose to be and doing a disservice to all parties involved. A good author is a good author and it’s corny to think otherwise. JK Rowling would probably want to get a “Best Author of the 2000s” award than a “Best Female Author of the 2000s” without a doubt.

Trust me I don't think anyone here will say that Amano is a good writer considering Reborn was among the worst successful titles that graced the covers of Jump and DGM became a complete mess even before its move to monthly and then annually its just a cool factoid is all.

Nice cover, almost forgot that we are in full anniversary season back-to-back-to-back :celebrate
Next cover for Haikyuu for its sixth, then Black Clover, Kimetsu, Yuuna and so on...

Surprised with Golem Hearts getting out of being deadlast, tho its not the first time it happened, unless it even outranks RxL next issue, then bye bye.

Meh who am I kidding it sold like shit and is living in the bottom 5, its only a matter of time

Honestly, at this point, moreso than female mangaka, Jump and other shounen magazines need female editors in their departments. Jump has gone 50 years without so much as one woman being a editor. We now know that women are just as good at writing hit shounen series as men, with people praising FMA as one of the greatest shounen manga ever. Its also true that Jump has a big female readerbase. We don't have to appeal to them as they probably want to read "regular" shounen like teenage boys but it would still be a nice move and give new perspective.

Of course when they float things like this:

You can see why it might be hard for more women to work in the editorial department.

See people forget about them, or they just ignore them. Apparently people forgot about FMA too???

I think its more common for female writers to be in "shonen" magazines then people here are trying to say it is.

This.

Decisions makers, editors, and so on need the female representation (worldwide).

the editors behind the scenes manga on Jump Plus made Yabuki draw the sign for the women bathroom, brilliant I know

unsurprisingly, women complained it's sexual harassment and caused the manga to be put on hiatus

Nobody said they didn't exist, but that they are part of the smallest slice of the cake. For each female author you mention (in shonen magazines), it is possible to mention ten male authors.

Yep, it's strange how even in shoujo magazines the editors are all men. Btw, Yu Watase had a fight with hers a few years ago.

Some women have a different feeling in shonen.
Miki Yoshikawa ,FMA or baby steps author' writing feels different than the typical author.
Not all women have that.Ichigo 100% doesn't feels like that.

Cover and cp for s4 of haikyuu OR for the match finale. I kind of want a longer match. Inarizakis are great.
They're the worst rival ever appeared in Haikyu.
When the team of nobody who fought nekoma where more interesting it says enough of inazakis.

It's a shame because it is interesting seeing hinata and co. development in this match but it would be more exciting with nekoma or other team.

That's why I welcome diversity, because different experiences and perspectives can help to create something fresh, which is always welcome-
While, at the same time, because we're all humans in the end, things can still become more similiar than we would expect.
Though, I am still happy for every time, when I hear a woman sits behind a story(not just manga), because then the chance to get a fanservice-y damsel in distress are lower. Which is always a good thing in my book.

I still think Gotouge is a female from the speculations/rumors + the author comments sounded very feminine.

It's not that huge of a drop for Shokugeki but still continues that downward trend. Who was telling me that this series will last long?

Hopefully it warrants a cancellation or he doesn't pull up BS international saga. I lowkey want BC & the newer shonens to be more sucessful so WSJ can get their heads out of their asses and realize that they don't need this manga.

Btw that HZ CP, any anime news?

Speaking of HZ's anime.

I've been thinking about HZ and about some anime possibilities. We know it will cover the first 17 volumes and 159 chapters of content. The fact that they straight up claimed it will cover volumes 1-17 makes me assume it will be a continuous adaptation. With a pace of around 3 chapters adapted per episode, 17 volumes would fit nicely in 48-52 episodes.

Not many studios are willing to take on such long projects any longer. Then there's also the TV network aspect and timeslots.

HZ could air in Summer in the earliest, if that were the case, it would probably be an NHK production. The problem is, NHK have way more anime announced for this year than usual, but there is speculation that NHK will expand their anime block to fit two shows. There's also the educational NHK channel and other satellite exclusive NHK channels that can have anime. NHK have a strong connection to sumo, so it would make sense to for them to fund this anime, but it isn't set in stone.

HZ could also take the place of BC when that finishes, in Fall. Would that mean Pierrot would end up doing it, that would be weird. Toei also like their long anime and if Toei do it they'll surely find somewhere to air the adaptation.

Then there's the option where the show will be adapted in 2 two cour chunks, with breaks in-between. For a high quality adaptation, this would be the most viable option and it would fit NHK's way of doing things. But the announcement for the TV anime said it will cover the first 17 volumes, so it most likely means we'll get 4 continuous cours.
