Taimatsumaru isn't a Tengu though? That's a demonic fire bird, no?
I remember it from the 2007 Gegege Kitarou show.![]()

It's a D&D monster? Idk, have it from this link here. Listed as a mythological creature
Lol if zimb allows a "mystical t-rex" then I'll pick it just for your tenacityA mystical tanuki vs a mystical t-rex, c'mon its so obvious!
But gotta wait what he says about whether he accepts my first pick. It's kinda mythological. If he refuses both I'll find another.Ah, Tanuki was from Farfs only. My pick was what you called a D&D monster, that Tengu under fire, but not sure if it‘s a legit mythological creature. You can have tanuki if you want - though, I'm not sure a tanuki yokai (a Bake-danuki [化け狸]) is different or not. I always thought that it was just belief that tanuki (the animal) had magical/shape shifting powers (amongst other ones)
The kanji is different, for both kinds (the animal and the yokai I mean), I guess.
hmm...
I really don't know enough about yokai - does that mean you'd be okay with a kitsune also?
My wife seems to think that they are the same - so the shape shifting creature is the actual animal (and not a mythological creature - just magical powers attributed to a real animal [similar to the kitsune]).
- kinda like old wives tales (follow the tanuki in the forest and he will cause you to get lost - the mischievous fellow).
Though, like me, she isn't an expert on yokai.
So... have it if you want (though, I still think that it's not really a legitimate choice)
Oh no, tarrasque is legit - if that is what you want?Ah, Tanuki was from Farfs only. My pick was what you called a D&D monster, that Tengu under fire, but not sure if it‘s a legit mythological creature.
My pick was Taimatsumaru. But will likely go Tarrasque if you don‘t allow the first one.Oh no, tarrasque is legit - if that is what you want?
I was wrong that I thought it was an D&D original
(I should have guessed, as it didn't look absolutely ridiculous)

Taimatsu-Maru appears legit to me - consider it changedMy pick was Taimatsumaru. But will likely go Tarrasque if you don‘t allow the first one.
To me it's a lot like a myth with have here. An animal from the Amazon, called Boto (basically a pinkish river dolphin), is a part of many tales that say it can turn into a human during a festive period and seduce women. Fine, the locals prolly started it to explain how women "magically" show up pregnant in that region, but it's still a part of our folklore. And just how we have many other mythical beings as a part of our folklore, most of them completely made up, the Boto from the tales is also considered one of them and not as something apart just cause the animal also exists - there's still a mythical side of it. Considering that myths are there as a result of how ancient people would explain things, having them based on actual things is a part of it.You can have tanuki if you want - though, I'm not sure a tanuki yokai (a Bake-danuki [化け狸]) is different or not.
