So, with it's current reception, what do you guys think Samurai 8's fate will be?
I still think it'll last at least 10 volumes due to name recognition alone. The first volume will have amazing sales, then stagnate and eventually drop off like what happened with RobotxLaserbeam.

That's a lot higher than I thought. I think I've seen that number around, but only as 'circulation', so I assumed it was total circulation over the period.

Just as I suspected, the Rugby World Cup is indeed supporting Beast Children.
Was it the same with tokyo wonder boys?
after all he debuted at the time of the football world cup.

Urgh, Beast Children is having more prominence than Futari no Taisei.

I'm already scared.
It is normal, after all is having the world cup of rugby in Japan and is also the first rugby manga of the jump, of course he will have more prominence.
While Futari no taisei is the third shogi attempt of the shonen jump.

Taisei is so odd, reading it just leaves me confused at what it's even planning and what's with the odd story structure. Completing one character's arc in ch 1, killing off the other in ch 2, and he's already better than the pros so he's not got much growth either. What is it even meant to be?

Beast Children was fun, not amazing but the build up to the tackle hype was pretty well done and the focus on making the sport seem cool rather than getting bogged down infodumping all the specifics is a good sign. I can see it going either way.

I'm already getting bored of Samurai 8, I really don't care for the characters or progress so far at all, really the only part I'm finding fun is how it's including Naruto fanscan memes, like the dog saying meow and the ninja tank (I can't wait for Dr snakes). No doubt it'll last over a year at bare minimum based on Kishi prestige alone but it's just not very interesting so far.

I'm curious to see what next week's new series will be. We've got an odd mix so far so I'll be disappointed if it just ends up being your usual obvious flop battle shounen.

Look, I did not see anything special and new in beast children for the people to praise so much, I hope it was not for the "absence of sport on the jump" that started to be discussed by nothing being haikyuu and hinomaru so far until today (with haikyuu being one of the "big 3" magazine).
It's still the old story of the kid who watched a rugby game and wants to be a footballer because of that.

I think Samurai 8 will last long enough to get a 100+ episode anime adaptation and will last quite some time in the magazine. To be completely honest, I personally think the anime is already being planned to enter production.

I think it’ll always be considered inferior to Naruto, but eventually ppl will accept it as a mainstay and warm up to it.

The sales won’t be incredible, but it’ll at the very least sell so much that there won’t be any logical reason to axe it.

It’ll either get a full run, or will be moved to another magazine eventually(because of health reasons stemming from Kishimoto getting older, or Kishimoto just not wanting to commit to a weekly schedule anymore though).

Samurai 8: I liked the first chapter. I liked the concept, I liked the designs. The story can get more interesting. The 3rd chapter was kinda meh, mostly because I don't like Nanashi and it was too focused on him to shine. Overall the best of the new series so far.

Futari no Taisei: Not for me, didn't' find it interesting to follow it anymore.

Beast Children: Kinda standard for a sport series, but it wasn't interesting enough for me to want to keep reading it and want more. Will check few more chapters, but don't expect to get any more better than this.

Will see next week about Tokyo Shinobi Squad. The oneshot was kinda boring, but hopefully it will be different now.

IIRC Kishimoto said in an interview it's planned to last 10 volumes (but he also said he thought Naruto would be 15 volumes). So I figure they'll let him do at least that much and if it's a big hit they'll extend it.

If this is true, then I’m sure it’ll get a full run

I hope it does end up just being 10 volumes in the end and not get milked forever, I'd like to see Kishi do a more compact focused story.

Plus Astra Lost in Space recently showed that you can do a well planned and compact space story that also captures a strong sense of wonder and adventure, and I'd like to see more stuff like that.

See you're a Kuroko fan. That's interesting, because my impression from the first volume was quickly that Fujimaki's art was well below the starting line for the likes of Inoue, Murata and Furudate. Was Kuroko Fujimaki's first manga?
I don't know if it was, but yeah, early Fujimaki is still the holder of one of the worst arts i have ever seen in Jump, it's not the worst art ever, but still pretty lacking and simple for a non-gag.
