Man I really wish both of these series had survived. Especially Ziga.
Nah not Ziga, it was a big flop how the author handled his idea. Best girl died and he ends up in an emo avenger. Nothing interesting

I'm fairly certain he killed her, the most popular character, literally to spite fans for turning it into a flop. I doubt that was his original intention, he was just upset people wouldn't give his manga the time of day, for some reason.

From what I remember, RxL was until a certain time-skip (never read the manga so I have no idea if that skip actually happened).
David-kun is something that imo appeals more to western audience because of the whole character concept and the references. Which showed, clearly (even as a gag, it was more popular than all Taisei, Beast, Higuma, ne0, Yui and Saiyuki combined).
Well, if we're going by the ToC, and using those charts I made the other day, RxL's placements went from mediocre to absolutely dreadful. Dunno when this timeskip happened though.

The timeskip was around 30 chapters in, I believe?

Can confirm, it was the end of chapter 30.

I think that would have been Issue 45 or so, which is more or less when it starts going down in chart. However, by the time that would have affected the ToC a few issues later it was already going downhill. So maybe it really was an attempt at dealing with lackluster reception that backfired terribly.

Looking at TOCs, it has to be noted that RxL was holding up OK even after that until Issue 9 of 2018. So it is plausible that the timeskip killed it.

I should have said on the same pace which would be more accurate, eh

WNL is at 2.7M at the moment so it is ahead but was 2M just before the anime, so 11 volumes but with digital included

RxL is current jump's Takaya Gakuen basically, did a big sudden shift in an attempt to save failing rankings but ended up being received even worse afterwards. Granted RxL lasted longer after the shift of course but it was in dead last for it, it just had enough Kuroko hype leftover to still sell decently.

Though of course I doubt RxL's failure's going to completely ruin a genre for WSJ forever like Takaya did.

So it looks like Dr. Stone underperforming was greatly exaggerated, if not completely untrue.

Who started that particular mindset anyway?

It's not so much that it's underperforming I think since it does well, more that it's not visibly growing that much. It's got a decent sized stable following but seems kind of stuck at that size while newer series gradually grow and overtake it.

You take a very random manga, did not even know it existed.

What a wild reference, i’ve not thought of Takaya in like a decade

Or this? It's serialization round partner, Kain.

Kain ruled!

We don't know if it's "underpreforming" because we don't know Jump's expectations.
But we can say that, compared to it's ToC positions, it doesn't sell that much.

Isn't Takaya the one that was well recieved at the beginning, then fell off and to save it, the mangaka rebooted the manga by turning it from a regular school setting to an isekai fantasy one while dropping every single character from the school part but the main duo?
