The name changes for Spy x Family really strike me as an "author doesn't know much English but wants their personal English translation used anyway" situation. Like when you see a good translation of a long light novel title go unused because the author's really proud of their own really awkward sounding one.

Exactly. But then maybe it is not just a whimp. Maybe some code will by used latter and it needs specific number of letters in names

Does anybody know what happened to Yumi Hotta (author of Hikaru no Go) after Yuuto bombed? Did she leave the manga industry?
Nah, she did a web-manga on Tonari no YJ called Hajiman that was all about creating manga and the fundamentals of storytelling and making names and stuff. That was like six years ago now so I don't know if she just retired since then or moved to a background role somewhere. Like, she's in her 60s now, after all.

If that happens I'll change my opinion, but as it stands, this name change thing is literally the only complaint I have against the series.

And even then, it's not so much the series as it is the mangaka. Just seems needless currently.

"Anya" and "Ania" have the same number of letters though

If I remember correctly in this case Endo left the choice to translators. I might be wrong though

Need to get on Hoshin/Hikaru asap. I left out TPN/AA since I haven't read a lot. I think JJK might rise up to B if I was caught up. Having JJBA as a franchise is really hard to rank, the parts vary in quality especially the earlier parts to the later ones.

The publisher answered me for Spy x Family. The number (circulation) contains the digital sales. The circulation is now 310,000 copies.
Ui, that is a lot for a new series first volume after one month. No wonder it is on 3rd place in most viewed on mangaplus (if you count the two OPs and DBS together) despite being bi-weekly. And the way it is going with getting Cosplays, more fanart and such it might even overtake Dragon Ball Super at some point. Maybe with the 2nd volume.

Higuma bonus chapter is on Viz and Manga+
Why wasn't Gokutei Higuma more like this in the serialization? The pacing was good, the art style is pretty, MC's powers are cool, it works well as a oneshot too. A huge fail on the side characters front though, but the previous chapters shared that as well so meh.

Maybe cuz the author had months to create this one chapter?

This was something Ice-Emperor discussed on twitter so I feel like it be relevant to ask here:

Do you guys think the current era of Jump is more or less diverse than, say, the 2000s?

As far as tropes go, what actually defines a series as a whole, it's about the same as it always has been. The only thing we're missing is a gag/comedy series.

Kinda curious to see what you guys think,

What type of manga are you wanting to see from Jump in the next batch? Personally, I'd love to see an apocalypse series.

Ditto, I don't care about having a "new" series in there, I want something good.

I know we get plenty of shonen battle manga, but it feels like its been a while since we've gotten one with all of the following:
  • Meaningful escalation and stakes. Major character deaths, and lots of "oh shit" character growth moments.
  • A distinct, iconic setting. One that manages to feel archetypal, but also not like a retread of a manga that came before.
  • An exciting and well thought out power system. One that shows a lot of power variety, and is also detailed enough that a reader could build their own unique ability set using the power system's rules.
Hunter x Hunter and Naruto are mangas I can think of that have pulled this off to at least some extent in the past. MHA and Black Clover are candidates that have gotten close, but fall short due to either a lack of meaningful escalation or a vague power system.

It might be a tall order to expect a manga like that to ever happen again, but you didn't say tall orders weren't allowed! Even if something like that didn't happen in this next batch, I'd love to see it happen again at some point in WSJ's future.

Fake TOC's have started dropping. We can probably expect the real one + the new series to appear sooner or later.
