If World trigger survived because his first volume didn't appear in oricon, why all the other series after it didn't survive? They can be wrong but the "This series is going to be a hit because the guy writing it is famous" or "this series survived so other can!" is also wrong.
Danganronpa is mainstream and a series written by the creator in Shonen Magazine was cancelled or Jojo was popular but Steel Ball Run was a failure in the beginning.

People need to stop being in denial and begin to think that , off course, Sam8 can be a hit, but kishi doesn't have a free card and can be a flop.
World Trigger (and Act-Age, Sket Dance, Kimetsu no Yaiba, and even Psyren) is a fantastic example of why Jump system works so well. Though all these did around 10k+ for their respective volumes 1 (unlike vast majority of Jump flops), which means that still there needs to be some potential in sales early on.

Even if Saiyuki picked up in reception somehow recently, they obviously see there is no upside in keeping a manga that sold 4,8k in 25 days (and is not by a known mangaka). Same goes for David-kun.

you mentioned before that you are on ios,

while I know exactly how to do it on android, i am not as sure about ios, but in theory you could install the jump+ (or jumpbookstore app, but plus is easier) app by changing the region of your app store(you can change back after that i think) , and paying them using iTunes gift card which you can buy at some places.

android is way easier,
apk + google pay = done (subscriptions will take a bit of tinkering, but individuals issue just need those 2 things)

and purchases will appear on other devices connected to the same account so you can read on PC if that is ypur thing.
Yeah I read the Jump + manga on my phone but even when I go into the app and try to purchase coins it just tells me no coins to show. Even when I was in Japan, back when they introduced the system of coins into the Jump Book Store the only way I could get volume was to use the Line Card I got there since they require a Japanese issued card. Meaning I'd have to buy a Japanese iTunes Card to link it to my Japanese account for that to work I guess. So for now I just read the Viz translations for some of the WSJ series and buy volumes in Japanese on honto.jp for the series I follow in the magazine.

My japanese level is very low, probably JLPT6, but I think the Chi in "夜桜さんちの大作戦 " could translate as "Miss", same as in "小林さんちのメイドラゴン" translate to "Miss Kobayashi's Maid Dragon".

People need to stop being in denial and begin to think that , off course, Sam8 can be a hit, but kishi doesn't have a free card and can be a flop.
And where i said that S8 won't be axed "just 'cause it's a Kishimoto's manga" exactly? Nowhere.
What people really need to stop is acting like everything about S8 is just 'cause there's Kishi's name on it, without even look at the plot, the hype and everything else about the manga.
I'm reading and loving S8 because it's hype, it's interesting! Not because "Muh Kishi"...🤦‍♀️

I made that comparison with AA and Yuuna just 'cause some users keep saying that, if S8 can't reach the Top 5, it will be surely axed no matter what. I stated the example of AA and Yuuna (but i can also talk about Chainsawman, Sumo and Jujutsu or even Haikyuu). They've got their Mid and Bottom positions but they are still there. And nobody got the courage to say anything about their "potential" cancellation. But with S8? Holy crap, seems like someone here is going on a freaking Witch Hunting fest.

Seriously, all this silly "but the hype around Kishi? Dead manga" rant is not just silly but also kinda ignorant. You can't base your opinions just around a name, without even reading the damn manga.

Same goes for TSS. "Muh axed, next" without even know its sales.

Shueisha doesn't need to know the sales of a new manga to decide if it will continue or get axed. Love Rush got axed with only 14 chapters and 1 month before it's first volume was released. Ole Golazo got axed with only 12 chapters and 2 months before it's first volume was released. Amalgam of Distortion got axed with 19 chapters and 3 weeks after it's first volume was released.

If Chagecha can get cancelled after 8 weeks when it was from an author with a huge hit under his belt, then truly no-one is safe, even before a volume is out.

EDIT: not that I think Sam8 is in any danger at all, but I don’t wanna bury my head in the sand as to how Jump can be

...wow, I didn’t know that Love Rush and Ole Golazo were axed before the volumes released. Either those manga seriously failed to catch on, or Jump is more brutal than I thought.

Weighing in a bit, it's basic business logic that, the higher the expectations, the more likely people losing faith in a product is. This, combined with Jump's harsh survival of the fittest landscape, is likely why there's such a precedent in Jump for veteran creators being unable to make a comeback.

Quite the contrary.

As it was mentioned, Shueisha doesn't always wait to the first volume. Shueisha should know a lot about the popularity or potential of a new manga before the first volume is released (that information probably influence the TOC)

Also, the new mangas at the bottom in the TOC usually have bad sales. So, it is pretty unlikely the sales will help TSS.

That said, Futari no Taisei and Beast Children are lower at the bottom. So, they maybe are axed before Tokyo Shinobi Squad.

Wow, Dear Sa-Chan has to be one of the worst manga I have read this year. Also the fact the whole concept is beyond pointless.

Shueisha doesn't need to know the sales of a new manga to decide if it will continue or get axed. Love Rush got axed with only 14 chapters and 1 month before it's first volume was released. They may have changed that this year (David-Kun, Ne0lation, Higuma, Yui and Saiyuki, with Beast, TSS and Taisei also going to live until Vol 1s are out in September). All three manga you mentioned have launched a long time ago now.

Also, the new mangas at the bottom in the TOC usually have bad sales. So, it is pretty unlikely the sales will help TSS.
Bingo! The only outliers of the past 9 years (besides followups from known mangaka like Hungry Marie) were Kiben Gakuha and Cross Account, one of which happened exactly 9 years ago!

I'd just be happy for current WSJ to have two successful sports series in general. Hinomaru Zumou was amazing and I enjoyed Soma as well but Sumou is more on the battle side of things and cooking isn't actually a sport even if Soma was structured like one. And even then they're both gone now, with Beast Children not looking so hot at all.

I don't really care if it's golf, Rugby, football, badminton, baseball or even something really unexpected like kabaddi or shinty or something, I just want something new to stick around.
The difficulty with sports manga I imagine is a very over-saturated history of iconic titles combined with a relatively low ceiling in terms of story possibilities without completely alienating readers. When your story variation is restricted to whatever sports are being played and maybe a few other elements, and you have to measure up to a canon of 40-50 series that still have considerable legacy. Not saying its impossible, but it certainly isn't easy, especially in a landscape as dogmatic as Jump.

I think it’s difficult to predict why a series failed. It’s a lot easier to come up with reasons why something succeeded.

Honestly though, I think it’s rare that we get something that’s so unique and so different that predicting it’s success is a no brainer.

And to the contrary, i personally think it’s extremely rare that we get a series that is SOOO bad that we can easily predict it’s doom.( I know a lot of ppl will disagree. But I honestly believe nearly all the series that get axed aren’t THAT bad and have some redeemable qualities. Most just don’t take off for likely little to no reason)

For the most part I feel like almost always a series will have a mixed bag of opinions; with half the readers saying it’s great and why it’ll succeed; and the other half listing why they dislike the series and that’ll be axed.

Then, if a series turns out being successful, with high TOC placements, and large volume sales, you start to see a lot of people coming around to it.

Hey Jovan it’s definitely a crime that you’ve made me feel so old with this single sentence. 9 years, my god.

Disagree there, Miles. There's easy to construct reasons why certain series succeed and others fail, it's not a random number generator. Saiyuki, for example, failed simply because of its slow start (it wasn't until Chapter 9 when the manga left the protagonists house) and heavy use of exposition over action. Also Ryunosuke's dad putting him in solitary confinement in Chapter 1. That...wasn't something readers took kindly to.

I believe you can find quite a few examples where something had average or mediocre early chapters, that still managed to survive.

During Black Clover launch round, most ppl predicted that, assuming any of the 4 series survived, it would be either Cyborg Roggy or Ultra Battle Satellite. While Black Clover was the obvious series that was going to be axed. But here we are now.

Plenty of that started off as “nothing special”, such as Kimetsu No Yaiba, Jujutsu Kaisen, and We Never Learn, that were predicted to be clear axes, but now they’re staples in the magazine.

A lot of examples where series were positively received for the most part, And didn’t make it. Shuudan, Double Arts, UBS, School Judgement, Noah’s Notes, etc.

There are tons of petty reasoning why some series can possibly fail, that has no direct correlation to the quality of the series.
Such as The Cover not interesting people so they never read it. Readers skim through it and don’t bother to read it because of a personal artstyle preference. People just not reading because they simply don’t feel like it.

Point is/TLDR I think most series don’t lean too far on either the “this is trash” or “this is amazing” said. Once in a blue moon we’ll get something that’s amazing out the gate, or hot garbage right out the gate.
