Look at how mature you are, reading a magazine targeting kids while berating manga made for its demographic.
And I don't see why gag comic need something like plot. All they ever need are characters and settings to execute jokes. Plot is just a bonus, not a necessity.
I would rather read a plotless manga rather than rush-out, shitty pacing story or whatever plot double tensei has.
Some people lack this knowledge, so I’ll assume it’s the case with our thread’s young cynic, but gag manga are called gag manga because they’re gag-driven, as opposed to series that are plot-driven, so his specific complaint is bizarre.

It’s also why people tend to call series like Gintama and Sket Dance comedy series instead of gag series, because (you guessed it) they aren’t really gag-driven.

Okay, so I finally got around to reading Mission: Yozakura Family. I know, I'm late on this, but I wasn't in the mood previously to pick up a new series.

Having said that, wow. It's a new favorite of mine. I enjoy everything about it. I'll be pretty disappointed if it doesn't survive, but I'd also be pretty shocked if it was axed.

I wasn't complaining about them being gag-driven in this case? My complaint about Mitama is that it's limited, all three chapters use the exact same format (Haze is pestered by the spirits following her around, Joh makes a fool of himself trying to deal with the situation while Rena watches black-faced, then Joh goes super-form and solves the problem in an over-the-top fashion) while repeating many of the jokes as well. I'll admit, I haven't read much in the way of gag-driven manga outside of a few chapters of Saiki (it's not really my thing), but even then I struggle to see how the series could peoples attention as more than a brief novelty.

There was an especially infamous incident with the manga Kannagi where the series implied the heroine wasn't a virgin, and otaku literally started setting their copies on fire in protest. Nothing from Shueisha though, to my knowledge.
No wonder authors are making romcom mc's all wimps,

On a deeper thought, I think Mitama takes the cake as being the worst new series of the year. Even accounting for its genre, it's quality is inexcusable IMO.
You can also say that it's not ur taste. Damn dude.. it's a gag, you get the jokes or you dont.

I hope for mitama survives, to get u btfo'd

Speaking of chapters this week, Haikyuu's really has me conflicted.
Hinata getting a fever and being out of the game means the team will most likely loose seeing how the team heavily relied on him to score points. If they loose that'd mean the series could go on for another 300 and more chapters easily and if they do win, I just don't see how the author is gonna justify that.
It kinda feels like is trying to stretch the series even more but I guess we'll have to see.

I mean, most of the fandom has been speculating this would happen, so it's not a huge shock.

I actually thought they'd win the game but maybe lose at a later time. I mean we all know the team isn't going to be the same after the third years leave so either they'll move on to their second year and get exceptional recruits and try again for a shot the nationals or there might be a time skip and the series will focus on the same players but as they age and continue playing the sports maybe at a higher level.

without spoiling Fuuka

"the big plot twist" got leaked online early with weekly shonen magazine raw

it caused huge backlash online

it caused Kodansha to release an apology statement about the chapter even tho it's not out officially yet

the entire thing was a giant shitfest, it was hilarious

years later the scene was cut from the anime adaptation because of fears it would cause another shitfest :XD
Man, I remember back when Kimi no iru Machi constantly gave the online manga community raging shitfests on a weekly basis during its run. Seo can’t be topped.

Legit, thinking about it, being put at the bottom of the TOC is actually more damning than it was 5-10 years ago due to the rise of digital.

When we have a physical book of some kind, there's a natural compulsion to read through everything in it, even if we don't really want to. That's just how the brain works, the fact that it exists on a physical level is just a psychological mechanism.

With digital, though, that doesn't really exist. Jump's digital format is basically just a scrolling menu linking to all the series in order of the TOC. Since it lacks a physical space of content, there's less of a compulsion to read through the whole thing. Once you've dropped a series, it's easy to just ignore it now since there's rarely a reminder that it exists.

Just something to think about.

are there any series in WSJ or even in Shueisha where an author made a choice as controversial as this and was bashed online because of it?
beside Naruto and Bleach endings which made shippers seethe
of the top of my head
Sporting Salt was being mocked to death when it was serializing, i have even seen Shueisha employees making fun of its art

Death Note continuing past that point is something I've always had a hard time understanding.
they addressed this in Bakuman with Reversi parallel, Jump wanted them to continue the manga until the anime airs
Kishimoto strongly suggest and highly imply ©™ that Naruto and Sasuke ended together off screen

Hitman is great. Great detailing on the editor side. and there's no romance focus from now but what's there is nice. It's a shame that it isn't more translated.

I don't have any idea how the end will be to be honest. Can be one girl, all of them or none of them.
Agree on Hitman there. That was a pretty good job of Seo on trying not to come across as a Bakuman rip-off. I sort of wonder if we'll see WSJ titles dropped in the series. Like Horikoshi's infamous lore as a mangaka.

yeah that's what I understood too about Death Note when reading Bakuman.
I'm not sure but wasn't Nisekoi's ending bashed online too, mostly about Raku's choice in the end which tbh was to be expected from the very beginning.
Bleach is a series I read so far until volume 60 and which I plan on reading through to the end once I finish re-reading Naruto but to me the series ended at chapter 424 with the color page being the exact same as the first chapter and everything starting differently. Ended here would have left a few plot holes but it would have felt great overall in terms of the series.

Nisekoi's fan backlash was less
Chitoge winning
and more the treatment of Onodera, which felt like a kick in the balls for her fans due to how the ending left her with basically nothing. (Meanwhile, Komi married Marika off to the one man perfect for her, Y-san)

a new Jump manga from 2014-2015

it has one of the worst art ever

people were mocking it because it's about proper human anatomy while the artist have absolutely no idea how to draw proper human anatomy

Kek I missed a Seo talk here. The madman is doing madman promotion of Hitman already.

Shonen Jump has probably the most iconic ending ever. In Otoko Zaka (axed Kurumada title from 1984):

Having finally started working on the manga he wanted to draw more than anything else, Masami Kurumada would not accept it being finished before it was meant to. Therefore, when the final chapter appeared on the 1984 #12 issue of Shonen Jump, Kurumada refused to use the kanji 完, which means finished or complete. Instead, he used the kanji 未完, which means incomplete.
Otoko Zaka was too manly for Jump. Despite having died because Fist of North Star started to be serialized and destroyed the competition.
