I'm not talking about the quality of the anime or the manga (something subjective) i'm talking about you saying that Black Clover wasn't a seasonal anime because it was generic and wasn't worth having high quality animation and etc, this doesn't make any sense, by Nakano words they wanted BC to be a long running anime from the beginning and in a timeslot aimed for kids/teenagers like what they did with Naruto at the time (he precisely mentioned Naruto as a comparison) because they always saw the manga as one of their "classic battle shounen" kind of manga, that's it.

Eh, they're...decent I guess? Kishi's Naruto covers are considerably more dynamic, but these are fine for what they're worth.

I will say though that covers aren't really determinations of anything regarding sales. Let's not forget, Spy x Family Vol 1 is just "Twilight reading newspaper", and it sold how much exactly?

Your constant negativity toward everything related to S8 and Kishimoto always amazes me...in a bad way...

So, I've been pondering something lately.

Beast Children has been averaging dead bottom on the TOC for a decent while now. Its first volume has so far flopped in sales, even compared to other flops. It has fast forwarded its current arc, almost as if the mangaka knows he only has a month or so left and wants to provide some closure by the time the axe falls. Things are not looking good for Beast Children, and by accounts all the writing is on the wall. A lot of things would make sense about the manga's current pacing if it ended in October.

The thing I'm pondering is just how interesting all this is, when you consider other factors.

The 2019 Rugby World Cup, hosted in Japan this year, starts later this week. It runs from September 20th to November 2nd, kicking off with Japan vs Russia at Tokyo Stadium. The World Cup is probably the reason that Beast Children was introduced to the magazine in the first place, so that Shonen Jump would have a rugby series running by the time the tournament started. On top of that, the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics is going to include Rugby Sevens as one of its featured sports. This means that for pretty much the next year, rugby is going to be more relevant in Japan than it has been in decades.

So you'd think that Beast Children would get some kind of push or marketing to commemorate the beginning of the Rugby World Cup, right? A higher spot in the ranking, maybe even a color page? Nope. It's still at the very bottom of the magazine. The possibility of increasing interest in the series by capitalizing on the biggest rugby-related event of the year should be there, along with the possibility that people watching the World Cup might now want to check out a manga about it and give the sales of Volume 1 a much-needed boost. And yet there's no fanfare or additional effort from WSJ. In a vacuum, it's like the World Cup isn't even happening.

I was wondering if the popularity of the Rugby World Cup would lead to an increase of interest in Beast Children, or even if WSJ would keep Beast Children running in the magazine until at least the World Cup was over. But Beast Children might just be doing so poorly that everyone is cutting their losses early and beginning to pack up shop, before even waiting to see if current events will draw in new customers. That is absolutely wild to me. And kind of a shame. There's still a chance that things will change over the next few weeks, but I don't know how great the odds of that are. Poor Beast Children.

Anyway, just some things about Beast's current situation that I noticed. Hopefully that's interesting to anyone besides me.

Yeah, hard to imagine, but until 2017, more than half of the Japanese mobile userbase was still not using a smartphone. It's slowly becoming more and more dominant now that flip phones are on their way out, but that's still a fairly recent thing.

Tbh when I lived there I saw very few people using flip phones what with Suica and the possibility to add it to your phone for travel, though that might be because I attended university there. The phone user base in Japan is mostly based around iPhone though I guess that mostly people younger than 30 years old have adopted smartphones that older people in the country or something and that it might have been a matter of convenience for Haruichi in that he just didn't see the need to get a smartphone before.

So I suggest that as soon as the mod see the TOC, he copy the thing and pin his own post. This way everyone can see it

Story-wise it might be decent but the characters design makes me not interested at all (Big mom for example).
