Are we just...forgetting digital exists? How do we not know the series is close to a million when those are factored in? Just because we have no hard numbers doesn't mean those numbers literally don't exist.
Because we need numbers. Otherwise its basically anyone's guess about how well each series does digitally. Its been stated countless times (mostly by me but shh) that it's very clear that the market average does not apply to Shueisha and therefore you can conclude it'll be unwise to assume Shueisha's average applies to all its magazines and series. It's quite possible a particular genre or demographic eats up most of the digital market.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

People said the exact same thing about it before S2 and S3 even now the series backlog is still steady despite their being no anime.
Not excluding that there can be more growth with S4. But I personally don't see it reaching 1 million. The series, imo, has reached its peak.
But as someone who was rooting for the series to hit a million, I'd only be happy if it proves me wrong and gets there.

OH arc was where the chapters start to get shorter in terms of page length. It’s at a point where we’ve probably lost at least a volume of content from this, as the new HeroAca volume was supposed to come out this month (I think?) but was delayed to December. Also didn’t help that Hori himself was tired of how long and dark the arc got and kinda rushed through the ending.
He did short chapters even before then. A lot of it was him trying to experiment with doing a long arc and then getting sick in the midst of it. He's pretty much been trying to not fall into the same runt of going on hiatus hence why the pages decreased but this was also the fact that Jump changed its schedule leading other series to put out low page counts to not miss the deadline.

Regarding the digital sales issue, I remember an old twitter:

The publisher of Spy x Family announced the manga reached 310,000 copies, which included digital ones.

Do we know how many physical copies have around that time?

But this isn't print numbers? so we don't know how many of this is print and how many is digital sales.

Yeah, but it will not reach 1 million per volume.

Edit: New volumes and with S4 impact...
I mean its already reach 1 million per volume what you mean to say is that it won't reach a million per volume in a year when the highest its garnered is over 800k in a year.

We know that SxF sold about 110k physically in its first month, no? Given that this tweet was made in the second week of August and Vol 1 was first week of July, we could approximate about 150k-200k was from digital.

No, i'm saying, the 310k it's print + digital sales right? so we don't know how much it's print and how much is digital sales.

If I'm not mistaken, when we say this manga "sells", we were really speaking about its "prints".

So, the 110K that Spy x Family "sold" are really the prints.

Am I wrong?

PS: The "prints" of mangas are sold to the libraries. That's why they are technicaly still sales (although copies could be returned).

it isn't licensed lol, kinda weird on Jordan's part. Take UNIQLO for example, whenever they have Jump merch they always have Copyright Shuiesha, Copyright Series Name.

also the shirt is 95$ a pop, and the jacket is 2500$

Now some designs are definitely unique and could be truly "inspire", but the fact that he has the Sennin shirts and the Naruto/Sasuke shirt plus the naruto rasengan jacket doesn't fly with me. At least he could give Kishimoto a blank check or something

no lol

If it's print number, then digital number is low
Since it sold for 280,000 copies atm, and the print number has to be high in order for it to be in stock. Which make digital sales probably in the range 10~20k

If it is indeed sales number (highly unlikely), then digital comes to about 70~80k

The number that you see as the ad for the manga is print number. The sales are what reported from time to time on here (Through shosheki or oricon site), at the end of the year you get a estimate sales of the top 10 series for the whole year.

Yeah, the prices on this stuff is insane. This does bring up something I've noticed, though.

Is it just me, or do a lot of black people really love Naruto? Like, moreso than other anime, with the possible exception of Dragon Ball.

Thanks for the clarification about both things. I was confused.

nah it's probably the domino effect, and Naruto is massive
Speaking about Jordan specifically, he's 32. Naruto is on its 20th year anniversary (well it's ended but its legacy is not), meaning he was ~12 when it first started, and about 15 when the anime first aired. Assuming he only watches the anime, it's still a good age for it to be a part of his childhood.

Then he recommends it to his friends, and probably does the same thing to his celebrity friends.

It's the same reason why Doraemon and Detective Conan, and Rumiko Takahashi stuffs are MASSIVE in southeast asia, but not in America/Europe region.

I still remember back in 4th and 5th grade, every day there are new episodes of Inuyasha and Naruto everyday, and my classmates discussed it during recess/lunch, and we even did the naruto moves.

it's the same with this new batch of kids with Demon Slayer, and My Hero.

Another thing i notice is on youtube there are dozens of up and coming anime reaction videos, and they are binging One Piece. Talk about dedication.

He read the manga. There's a tweet with him asking MS when the next Naruto and Bleach chapters would be released.

As for the rest of your post, I hear what you're saying, and it's reasonable. However, can you explain this?

(I'm just pulling your leg, FYI)

When WSJ's big digital series is hardly selling much digitally, it should be an obvious sign that we need numbers before we can assume anything for any series.

I do think Jump does need some sort of rotation in its system, but I'm not a fan of the idea of a "monthlies week". What could work is if the magazine had more series overall (like, 25 or so?) and they rotated so there would be 20 any given week and mangaka could rest once every few chapters. Someone mentioned something similar, I think.

And, come on, Jump mangaka may not be working literally to death, but it's pretty clear that it's a ton of work, a lot of them do suffer with deadlines and health problems eventually, and giving them more time would probably make the story and art better while improving working conditions. It's too out there for now, but I would be heavily in favour of it.

By the way, it's not as systematized as I proposed, but don't Sunday and Magazine do something similar? They almost always have a few series on break each given week, from what I remember looking at ToCs, and they publish more series than Jump.
