So what? You wanted to discuss there and are annoyed by the spam? Or you are annoyed they will beat SxF?

You can't possible believe that Spy x Family is almost twice more popular than MHA and KnY. Pretty sure some crazy fans were also increasing its views like that. Its really obvious that the ranking there is flawed and that was obvious from the beginning of mangaplus, as anyone could start his own campaign to increase the views of his favourite series in secret.

And if you already know that that list doesn't necessarily measure popularity, then why care about it?
I think Spy getting so high has more to do with it not having scans and until recently not being on Viz. If someone wanted to read it they pretty much had to read it on Manga+ (or read rips but those came out later so what's the point). MHA and Demon Slayer have scans and are on Viz which would take away from potential Manga+ views

I’m sure no one actually believes the ranking is reflective of how popular a series actually is.

However, it’s unlikely that every series is being inflated by obsessive fans.

Mangaplus just one platform. So the ranking can’t be accurate due to the fact that different ppl read different places.

For Exp. Spy X Family most like performs better than Kimetsu and MHA on MangaPlus because for a time that was the only place to read SxF.
Unlike other series, it wasn’t on the official Jump app. And unlike other series it didn’t have Edited Mangas on sites like Mangastream or Jamini because there was no point since the manga was digital and released on MangaPlus fully translated the same time as Japan.

Despite not being accurate, the list does do a good job at showing you what’s popular and not popular, and it’s interesting to see how new series perform. And even more interesting when a series like SxF tops the big sellers. It doesn’t mean that it’s more popular, but that’s still no easy task.

The only purpose of me posting that is to inform that views won't be reflecting any worth numbers to measure for that series anymore. Same thing with One Piece when it got a shitton amount of views out of nowhere. This is not to create discussion whether we think X series should be more popular or not that the other one, but to make people know what's happening in the website. There's still a lot of series in the platform that reflect actual popularity and readership and can be used to measure its overall reception. Don't know why does it seem so offensive for you to call that out.

I already mentioned about having a fan translation and not. Don't know why you guys are explaining it to me again. And I only commented because a user said the list is no longer a measurement - so I mentioned it never was a measurement.

"Despite not being accurate, the list does do a good job at showing you what’s popular and not popular " and as you said, its just one platform, what if the series is popular elsewhere? Or only popular there?

RafGL, I get the purpouse, it's interesting trivia. But like I said, I only commented it because a person said it's no longer a measurement due to this. Go read my first post.

What seems offensive for me? I already said I don't care about the rank there. I was only curious why the people saw it as a problem, considering the ranking wasn't accurate. And gave example as of why isn't accurate.

This is what I mean. At least before we could get some measure of how popular some series were, since MangaPlus is the only way to read certain series. Now, with the confirmation that Boruto fans are just inflating the numbers to get to #2, it’s worthless now because that can happen with any series.

This reminds me of the Mob vs Kaguya gilding war earlier this year (funny enough guess what got a second season announced today.) Would not be surprised if people start inflating Spy x Family’s numbers, for example. Maybe it already happened with One Piece, since that has an obscene amount of views, but One Piece has a huge fanbase.

It seems Dragon Ball Super fans have decided to enter the what I like to call View War Arc and have botted the series to get 200k in a few hours. Damn.

Ok guys, imagine you can resurrect an old Jump classic into main roster. What would you pick? PD: Dragon Ball and JoJo are not eligible

For me, it would be Saint Seiya. Maybe Hokuto no Ken
It’d probably be between those two series for me as well. Mostly because those are the big actiony shounen series I barely know much about. I remember catching a few episodes of the Saint Seiya anime on TV ages ago, but don’t remember what happened. It’d be great if both series were added to the Shonen Jump vault! Would love to read them.

Does Viz even have the license to the latter anymore?

not on their website. According to Wikipedia they lost it in 97 and Gutsoon Entertainment had it from 2003-2004 and no one has licensed it since.

I saw someone mention this before, and I guess it's the only way to get everything in English at this point?

Going to their website, it looks like you'd have to pay $450+ for the book thing and the little card with the volumes?

Had to go gag/comedy since I'm just not seeing Miitama as being a big hit. I'm still dreaming of the next Samon-kun or Saiki, and my heart just won't let me give up on it. I almost went with romance since We Never Learn definitely seems to be approaching its ending and Yuuna could randomly end one of these days, but I think the need for a great new comedy is more pressing for me at this moment in time.

Question kind of tying into the poll, how many series do you think will be in the next batch, and when do you think it will happen?
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

New poll is up.
Also, definitely Mystery/Suspense - I would love something like Death Note.

this kickstarter version is the book + all 27 volumes for 230$ + shipping, you don't get the card reader (version 1), it has both Japanese and English.

they have a new version (2), which they put up the kickstarter also, cost 460$ + shipping (around 30$ to ship to the US) + foreign transactions (15$ with paypal) plus 72 volumes of Naruto + the Scarlet Gaiden manga (1 or 2)

version 2 has the card reader slot, which you can purchase a card for fist of the northstar. They don't sell version 1 anymore and version 2 retail is around 350$.

They have 6+ WSJ completed series so far (Fist of North Star and Naruto available in English) and Masakazu Katsura completed works, City Hunter,Death note, Gintama, Naruto, Fist of the northstar in Japanese.

I would imagine there'll be 3 new series to replace the 3 from the newest serialization round, 4 if they decide to end Yui Kamio at the same time, which I'm still 50/50 on whether they'll do it. I thought Yui Kamio could've nicely concluded everything in 1 volume's worth of new content, but the plot took a slight detour from from I was expecting (but in a very good way), so maybe it has 2 volumes max left. As for when it'll start, I would imagine in the next few weeks. The only reason I could see it not starting sooner would be if they intentionally want the new round to start in Issue 1

Kamio Yui is clearly not ending in this round, and with the Dr. Stone spinoff taking a spot i think they will just cancel the 3 newbies and start 3 new series.

About what Shonen Jump needs, as always a mystery/detective manga, i think they need to try a new basket manga too and i would like to see Jump trying a delinquent manga again (Tamuraaaa), Tokyo Revengers is selling quite well on Shonen Magazine so there's no "outdated" excuse for it, you just need a good author and story.

I'm thinking two (three if the Dr. Stone spinoff really is a fully fledged new series instead of a miniseries or something) and that it'll start at some point in November (or...next week, if Dr. Stone counts). Going from Issue #41 to the end of the year with no new batches hasn't happened once in the history of Weekly Shonen Jump so far. So if we don't get a new batch until December, which will be Issue #1 of 2020, that'll be unprecedented for the magazine.

I still maintain that not all three of the Reiwa newbies are getting axed at the same time. They'll probably all get axed, sure, but not within the same batch.

re: What does WSJ need. Assuming we'll be saying bye to Beast Children and Double Taisei soon, Jump is going to have kind of a dearth of sports manga! I'd really love to see a new sports series that feels fresh and exciting. I think it'd be cool to focus on one of the weirder sports that'll be featured at the Tokyo Olympics next year, like sport climbing or skateboarding. Seeing a sport like that in manga form would be a fun way to learn about it, and it also would have the potential to see a spike in popularity when the Olympics rolled around. I'm aware this was Beast Children's strategy with the Rugby World Cup, and it seems to have failed at that endeavor, but you miss all the shots you don't take.

For the poll, ditto on Mystery/Suspense manga. I think we have all of the other bases covered right now (some far better than others, however), but I would personally love to see another good one of those. It would add some diversity to the magazine.
