Mag Talk Weekly Shonen Jump [2019] - Discussion and TOC Talk

When I make my votes, artwork is definitely taken into consideration, but the chapter's plot is typically the main factor that decides my vote each week. While the art was intricate, the chapter's plot was not that stellar, and several other series I was reading really knocked it out of the park last week (Double Taisei, Mitama, Act-Age were my top three last week since they had excellent chapters).

I honestly liked the whole thing, easily the best chapter of Yui for me by a long shot. And it's not even close. That is how bad the manga was for me.

How did that Kamio Yui chapter do so poorly here? I hated the manga, yet I am pissed for this lol. It deserves a Top 10 at least for some art panels in the chapter alone.

I think the "only 3 votes" helped, i did struggle a bit to decide, voted on Yui, Samurai 8 and Taisei but wanted to vote on Mitama, Yuuna and Black Clover too, maybe other users would have voted with more options, but not really trying to force changes

So, I read that final chapter of Yui and yeesh, even by Jump axe standards that was a rush job. Kinda shocking how badly Hiroshi Shiibashi has fallen, in the span of just a decade he went from a Top 10 seller with an Arc System Works game to an author who couldn't even break 5K. Sad that this is most likely his last work in WSJ.

For me, it has been ultimately issue 49 (Act-age). I was between it, issue 9 cover (MHA, Deku vs Shinsou) and issue 33 cover (Dr.Stone anime announcement).

Gotta with Issue 49 as well. The sheer "iconic" energy that appeared when it was first revealed is impossible to surpass.

gotta admit the AA cover was great, it is very memorable to me

One of the great things about this particular cover is that there's individual art available for every character's Dragon Quest inspired design, and a lot of them are excellent. Check this Twitter thread for some very cool takes on the Jump main cast at the time:

Another really good one is the MHA cover used to celebrate the premire of Season 4. Months later, I'm still seeing fans using this for headers and what not.

This weeks Yozakura's chapter was nice and wholesome, really got a laugh at it

I honestly liked the whole thing, easily the best chapter of Yui for me by a long shot. And it's not even close. That is how bad the manga was for me.

I loved the manga from the beginning and I love it when comedy manga go from comedy to battle and switch out from time to time but Imo Yu Kamio was 100x better when it was a comedy/slice of life. It started to feel like a bit of a chore to read when the battles became the main focus

Another cover I really loved this year is Issue #45's cover, the one celebrating The Promised Neverland's movie announcement:

It's just got such adorable energy! Possibly my favorite art of Emma to date.

My favorite was #36 with Black Clover, different than many of the covers the ilustration imply that there's a story behind it, not just the characters in a cool pose or something.

Big shame that Black Clover didn't get the cover last issue with that great time skip color page =/

mitama and yozakura family are 2 wholesome manga, these mangas are more neccesary for the magazine for the long run, from all the life to death franchises...

their latest chapter shows the authors know what their storyboards and plans are for their own manga. i really enjoyed them and the latest chapters were super fun

TSS started a new arc. I wonder if it's going to wrap up in two (?) chapters or if they're just going to stop in the middle of the action like Neolation did.
