Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

TPN S2 broadcast Oct 2020
S1 Rebroadcast in July 2020 on Noitamina
Live Action premieres Dec 18th 2020

Shokugeki no Soma S5 broadcasts April 2020

Morikubo Shotaro is casted as the Devil in Black Clover
They are really doing S5 back to back like that huh. Another slideshow fest then.

I saw this ealaier. Why october? Are they working thier asses off to cover the entire story in one season. I dont understand thatsbtoo far away from S1
Cloverworks is super busy with FGO right now and it will run for another cour. They need time to make TPN S2.

So basically Jasdero on steroids.

I'm two minds about this. Morally, yes, they should have stopped. However, I'm guessing the site was probably their main source of income.

We all have bills to pay, so part of me understands why they'd continue even after M+ released.
Huh? Based on that thought, thief/robber shouldn't be prosecuted at all then because they also have bills to pay too. Just because they need money, it doesn't justify doing something illegal to get it.

I didn't say it was justified, just that I understand that potentially being homeless can and does motivate people to do things they otherwise wouldn't. Also, I'm not saying they're above the law or whatever. Also, that analogy is a bit different. Theft/robbery is guaranteed jail time. What they're doing isn't. Hence why Shueisha sent them a cease and desist instead of pressing charges.

If only they delayed their Edited Manga after mangaplus like what /a/ did with kimetsu, and promote their work as alternative translation.
But that ain't their modus operandi, they can't do anything but rush out Edited Manga with horrible mistakes for the sake of being first.

For the most part, the only places being subjected to legal action / threats of legal action are places Editing series that are currently being simulpublished in English.

They could have made plenty of bank by removing / discontinuing series that are legally available to read internationally at the same time as Japan, while still offering scanslations of titles that don’t do that. MangaRock has a similar policy (kind of) and they currently get to still make money.

MangaPlus and the Shonen Jump vault specifically exist to counter piracy. They have gone the extra mile to provide consumers with official English translations day and date, so that those consumers will read the series from them directly and not an illegal alternative.

Any site that still provides scanslations of simulpublished content isn’t just a poor manga distribution site trying to make some slightly shady cash anymore ; they have become a direct competitor of Shuiesha, driving traffic away from Shuiesha’s new initiative. And yes, it’s a substantial amount of traffic. Leaked chapters of One Piece will still trend on Twitter sometimes with tens of thousands of Tweets several days before official release, and that’s just people being vocal about the fact that they’re pirating.

If you want to get that bread, maybe you should be smarter about it. And not do it in a way that specifically discourages people from using the new service of the company that you are stealing from.

As much as it's important to support official sources that pay the mangaka and artists, we all can and should acknowledge that Edited Manga sites like MS are a strong reason why manga and anime has become so mainstream worldwide. People who were unable to understand japanese or had no idea what manga were saw these and got into series that they wouldn't have otherwise.
It took so long for official forms of distribution to get to an acceptable level outside japan.

So yeah, while I do think Edited Manga sites should now respect the official sources and post accordingly, people should also realize and acknowledge that forums like this wouldn't exist if it weren't for sites like MS doing the work of getting manga out there to people at a time when there wasn't an official way to do it.

So yeah, it is sad that another one gets taken down because like it or not, they did a lot for this community.

They wouldn't even need to stop scanning stuff that's on Manga+ really, just delaying the chapters to after the official release would probably make a pretty big difference in Shueisha's priorities. MS brought this entirely on themselves and I have zero sympathy for them.
--- Double Post Merged, , Original Post Date: ---

Scans are great and pretty much necessary to english readers for most series outside of WSJ, but if a group isn't willing to show some respect for the industry they helped to develop then the group doesn't deserve to stick around.

This situation isn't in a vacuum, though. It's been over 10 years, IIRC, since MS started up. That's a long time, and the people who work on that site likely invested their livelihoods into the site instead of pursuing other professional avenues, long before M+ was ever conceived.

You're right that they should have changed their modus operandi when M+ released, but it's possible they were in too deep at that point. Need I remind you all that MH used to host raws as well at one point, so let's not try to point fingers and claim moral superiority.

Yes, what they did was illegal, but I do hope they're all able to land on their feet. They did introduce thousands of people to manga, so there is a part of me that's thankful for their work.

They did do a lot for the community and it is sad. But they could have avoided this outcome by acknowledging that the situation is different now, and changing with the times. They did not do that.

These consequences are not based off of the good things they did for the community in the past, they did not get cease and desisted for providing a scanslation of Naruto 8 years ago. They got cease and desisted for continuing to break the law after legal manga distribution has evolved. You can absolutely mourn the loss of a site that has helped the community grow, but it’s also worth noting that they could have kept doing that in different ways. They decided otherwise.

Cute poster. It would have been funny to see Yuuna and Yuko surround Rizu and having her freak out. Furuhashi is still having her A cup angst.. Emma and Nami look weird though, but Nezuko is cute as always. Makima as a maid is something I never knew I needed. And is that the guy from Aragravity in the back?

First off, that was before my time here. I was unaware MH did that.

Secondly, I’m assuming that MH stopped doing that at least in part because manga distribution is different than it used to be, and they made a decision that would subject them to less legal action. Mangastream could have made that same decision at any point and they never did.

This isn’t even about morals, it’s about being smart. Anyone paying attention to the market could have seen this as a distinct possibility, and MS just rode that train until it crashed instead of changing course.

Is this supposed to be Makima from CSM?

lol really?

Idk many WSJ manga atm, but damn, this ain't even scratching the surface of Makima's dangerous and frenzied sex appeal.

Loved the whole pic though.

Yeah, agreed. That's a very tame take on her. Didn't get the eyes correct either, but maybe it'll look better in high resolution.

The one that took me a bit was Samurai 8 girl, the others mostly have some kind of identifier but I only placed her after getting everyone else first.
