I agree that the train arc movie could push it that far. I also think that if it does, they're going to show up to Gotouge's house with a dump truck full of cash to convince him/her to extend the series.

With that level of success, they'd be forced to try everything to get KnY to keep running.
Would be nice if it just ended but he/she could easily extend the story. Everyone is basically half dead right now. If muzan escapes due to everyone being weak and being able to beat him and it timeskips or something it would make sense.

Then it'll be like God Eater. I hope they dont rush out a new season either. Im pretty confident they'll announce season 2 at the end of the movie or tease it for sure. They love to tease stuff, even at the end of the Toriko OVA they teased a few of the future arcs but it obviously didnt go anywhere :emocat
I wouldn't worry too much. Ufotable knows what they're doing with their big titles, kimetsu sold a lot of BDs for them and they'll keep it that way.
Speaking of which, the way they went about it with the anime adaptation is really interesting. KnY's success came as a surprise to most people, but it feels like Ufo always knew it would do well (got a double cour even though ufo shows are usually split cour, and according to interview they planned the movie really early on).
Speaking of Yu-Gi-Oh, would you all want another series like it in WSJ?

Like, a card battling series that people in real life could play, etc. I mean, not existing card game, but made specifically from the series.
I'd love that.

Yeah that arc is arguably peak fujo material in the series so itll definitely do well
Red Lught district arc? Hello?

In regards to potential series length, I think the latest chapter of Chainsaw Man pretty much confirmed that Fujimoto is wanting the series to be a potential long runner.

The topicality rule prohibits me from discussing plot details of series with over three volumes, but for those who follow the series, you know what I'm referring to.

To be super vague, the scope of the series increased, basically.
I actually took it as him wanting to end the series in a shorter time span but I won't go on about that longer cause I don't wanna break the rules

I dont think the success came as a surprise, its the extent of that success that was a surprise. Im sure that the staff or some of them were already fans of the source material (much like with most or all of the projects they handle) so they knew itd be a hit. Plus the series was already in a upward trajectory prior to the anime so its pretty hard to fuck it up unless they changed the source material or something.

Which is why I said arguably. I think Train arc edges it out because of how popular Rengoku is and the fanarts started to get popular after that arc. A lot of the fanarts were centered around Tanjirou and Rengoku at that time iirc.

huh... like yugioh?
A bit like early Yugioh yes, but it would be more about the collecting aspects like trying to obtain a rare game, getting duped by bootlegs, auction site battles, the financial woes that befall collectors...that sort of stuff.

I guess. Personally I always thought KnY's first arcs were the weakest part and I expected them to try to somewhat rush through them so they could get to the train arc faster, but the way they improved upon it was really cool to see.
It definitely got very lucky by landing with ufotable. Most series don't get such a good treatment.

Also I think fujos just do their own thing. Like, one of the biggest fujo ships in KnY afaik is between zenitsu, a guy that worships women, and Uzui, a ninja with 3 wives. How that's even possible is beyond me.

You are right about Zenitsu and Uzui. Either way, the movie & season 2 will be packed with content that the fujos will love.

The big issue however is that KnY was never really meant to be a long-running series. Extending it at this point in the story is really tricky.

Like I said, I don't think jump ever expected it to become a big hit even with an anime. It kept a really fast pacing throughout the entire series and never really expanded in a way that could allow to go in any direction if Gotouge decided to extend it. It's not as simple as "just throw money at her/him".

I guess they could go the jojo way? But there's no real guarantee it would keep its success that way.
I am aware of this, but I meant they'll try to have Gotouge extend it, which they definitely will. And, if we're being honest, a lot of series have been extended beyond their natural closure points. Sometimes it works, most times it doesn't.

There *are* a few places the series could go that *might* make sense, but it's a gamble, and Japan may reject it. I feel Ass Class' success should assuage our fears, though.

They didn't force it to continue, even though it was also a super success.

I REALLY hope they don't extend it. Gotouge is an author I want to see tackle all kinds of different settings and stories. Unless we're Jojo'ing it in which case I guess I'm down.

Actually fuck, just imagining how much better Jojo has gotten from part 1 to part 8, if Gotouge makes even half of the same amount of improvement, by the time we get to Kimetsu no Vento Aureo it'll be so goddamn good

Speaking of AssClass, has KnY surpassed it on all fronts? I don't even recall the lifetime sales for it, or it's maximum first month volume sales, etc.

Well, to force it to continue they'd still need to convince the mangaka. They can push really hard for it, but afaik the final choice is still the mangaka's.
I'm sure they tried for that one too.

And even then assassination's classroom's success still doesn't come close to what's going with kimetsu.
The volumes are on their way to 2million and everything they're putting on the market with kimetsu or gotouge's name is making insane numbers, the novels are topping the charts and gotouge's oneshot collection is doing like 400k.
It's bonkers.

I think for it to continue reasonably it would have to go the jojo route, but then the setting would change and I do think that's a big part of kimetsu's success. I hope they don't just throw another villain in out of nowhere.

I think assclass' peak was still barely above 1m per volume, so yea, kimetsu is far above that as of now.

Yes. AssClass's peak was 845,667 in 4 weeks and 893,081 in 5 weeks with volume 18. As for print, AssClass's last known print number was 25 million which is tied with KNY's, but KNY's passed that already.

I thought everyone here heard of assclass.
Despite being a huge cynic, I still have a little hope that Shueisha would let Gotouge end the story the intended way.

For what's worth, I do believe Kimetsu has a decent chunk of life left on it, given how the current arc is going right now, I can see it running for a good part of 2020 and ending.

If and only if Gotoge decides to extend it a bit more, I could see it ending at most in early 2021, exaggerating.

I think Gotouge’s best plan of action is to: 1) End the series as intended; 2) Go into an extended flashback about Muzan (not sure how fans would react to this since apparently,
the big Magi flashback toward the end of the series wasn’t that well received since the readers wanted to see the main characters again
); 3) Take like a 6-12 month break after ending the series (around the time the movie comes out to have a whole tie in event with the last volume) and then come back with a prequel anthology series of sorts following popular characters from the series to tie in with the 2nd or 3rd anime season and end it after like a 1 year or so (since they’ll need an extended break at some point).

I think I would really like that personally, but I would also like to see a trading figure game in that same vein. Like I feel like a manga where the figures actually come to life and battle, and could even have their own fleshed out backstory and individual lore and such, could work pretty well in the shonen genre.

Basically what that Legendz(I think it was?)series was, but a bit more on the obviously not just there ONLY to push merch and the anime side and a bit more actual plot like Yu-Gi-Oh! So basically Bakugan.

Well, I can see KnY going beyond 200 chapters, and coincidentally chapter 200 will be released around its anniversary.

Will it get another popularity poll? I mean, since chapter 70 I think was the last one. I'm looking forward to see who will be the new top 10.

Although I feel like it’ll most likely end soon, I think it could also realistically go on much longer if it wanted to, and can still have places the series can go.

Every Jump series feels like it’s design to go on forever should it need to, or the creator wants it to.

Would absolutely love it.
I'd also love to see a Monster Tamer series as well given their resurgence in popularity. Get a new franchise that can compete with Pokemon, Yokai Watch, Digimon, Dragon Quest Monsters and the like.
Hell, I'd be comfortable with a Dragon Quest Monsters series in Jump but I'd prefer an original IP so we can have a new manga/game/anime franchise juggernaut.

I'm surprised we haven't seen a Monster Hunter rip-off, given how popular the games are now.

Toriko kinda counted, but Toriko only ate the beasts, and not actually forged gear from their body parts. Shimabu also added fanart into the series, which could work really well for this kind of series.
