Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

45 weeks remaining,

the actual battle of the year, in theory any of the future volumes are in the running, highly unlikely for OP (not that it hadn't happened, see 92 vs 93) more proabable for kimetsu at current circumstances,

Code:

|*883228(2)|1452119|-------|-------|-------┃1,452,119(**9)┃2019/12/28|One Piece 95
Well, if KnY beat OP in both total and individual sales, hardcore OP fans and deniers gonna cope by blaming it on "lunatic fujoshi buying hundreds of copies" just like I already see they did that on /a/

Really wish fans stop their hypothetical dick wagging with OP and KNY and just be happy that a new series has hit 1.5 million (probably gonna be closer to 1.8million when it stabilizes) per volume. Something that hasn't happened in WSJ since Death Note.

A series doing well is great for the manga industry in general.

Series wars have always been a thing, you have to remember that a big chunk of all shonen fanbases is not exactly going to be the most mature by definition. Sales are just another thing to add to the fuel.

Personally I think it's fun to watch someone race for first instead of second for once. Don't really care who wins, it's just interesting.

And that's why I'm here. I'm not going to let it come to that, at least within this section of the website. It already started to rear it's ugly head last year when KnY beat out OP in the 2019 sales.

Yeah I saw it happen pretty much anywhere so I don't doubt it. Also didn't help that Shueisha added to the confusion but oh well.

They were attempting to save face, in my opinion. They have a vested interest in One Piece being #1, so of course they'd move the goal posts to make One Piece win.

However, it's possible this year they won't be able to use the same tactic. I'm really curious what they'd resort to next time. Probably lifetime sales. >_>

Make an announcement that what the One Piece is will be revealed in the next volume. It would sell 50 million copies first week, 120 million first month.

Yeah for sure, i don't really know if they'll be able to cover it if Kimetsu beats OP in individual sales as well though. I mean, lifetime sales are cool and everything but everyone knows they aren't 2020 sales....right?

Does Oda even care though? I mean, I can see why jump would have an interest in doing so, but I doubt Oda really gives a damn. His series is as safe as it gets regardless of what happens and he'll be able to write whatever he wants and for however long he wants.

Is it really though? With all said I dont feel that any series can be honestly safe in this mag.

Yes, it's completely and utterly safe.

Oda has complete carte blanche. He's got tenure over Togashi, even.

I mean...yes? I can't see one piece ever dropping enough to not warrant keeping it in the magazine until Oda decides it's time for it to end.

Something REALLY bad would have to happen, like Oda getting early dementia and becoming unable to even write anything that makes sense.

Hell, Watsuki literally got busted with child porn and he was still allowed to continue doing the RK sequel.

Oda would have to like, murder babies on live TV for them to even consider firing him. And even then they might not.

Yeah, it's just unthinkable. One piece will never be in danger.

Also if Oda wants to write something else after it ends they'll probably make Samurai 8 look like some newbie series WSJ barely acknowledged with how much they'll promote it.

Oda could kill somebody and Shueisha would still let him draw new chapters from prison.
Refresh my memory.

Wasn't it revealed in here that prison inmates actually DO work as manga assistants? I swear I remember someone posting that.

Wasnt it reference to Gintama jokes?
No, someone posted an actual article from a website that said prisons are trying out a new program or whatever that lets them work as assistants for manga.

It might not have been posted here, but I swear I remember reading that article.

It was the main plot in The Comiq, the recent-ish mini-series by yugioh creator. I remember there being a real article about it too though.

Seems like Samurai 8 sold about 9.738 copies, which isn't too bad compared to the first 2 volumes considering it only had 2 days but IIRC those 2 held up pretty well in their 2nd week while volume 3 dropped super hard.

A drop in sales combined with it being basically always at the bottom in the ToC...really doesn't look good.
