Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

You forgot about AOT,

If it is written well i believe it will be successful. There are instances of series being successful.
Yes, there are occasional examples. Just that I think the reason they're so rare is they're hard to write them both well and marketable to the core demographic of actual children..

The political component only became a part of AoT after it had already acquired a huge estabilished fanbase, and even then, it lost a decent bit of readers after it went political compared to its peak.

The discussion is starting to veer into off-topic territory. Let's course correct, please.

Political manga would be possible if they make it similar to Bakuman, where the reader gets the adrenaline rush from Poll results and surprise twists in said results etc. It'll be hard to pull off but it can be done. The focus shouldn't be on the politics itself tho. That would be too risky and the manga shouldn't be trying to push a "political agenda" of any kind.
But the chances of such a manga appearing in WSJ is almost non-existent.

I'd actually love to see that kind of series in Jump. Something like a young adult protagonist who comes up from poverty in a fictional nation and tries to change it from the inside. Plus you could get lots of Death Note-esque mind battles and machiavellian antagonists to boot.

This is really cool.

Agreed. A space epic would be such a good addition to WSJ. And the scale can be massive.
That would be really cool

Space epic.
Y'know a long-runner like a Star Wars battle adventure manga. Lightsaber esque weapons, adventures across planets and space, tons of unique species and lore.
I recently have gotten really into Cobra, and really find it surprising we haven't gotten more space opera in WSJ.
I hope that the failure of Samurai 8 won't dissuade Jump from trying again. Hopefully with Moue.
My hopes for this, lies with Galaxy Gangs 🤞

I've said it before, but I'd really like if Kubo returned with a new battle series where the clothes facilitate the battles. Kinda like Kill la Kill, I guess.

Clothing/design being one of Kubo's strong suits (giggity). Also, Build King, but you all know that.

Space theme would suit Kubo quite well. Also since he can just literally dump blank ink onto his manuscripts and put few dots to show space. At least then people will stop whining about his "lack of backgrounds".

Matsui is due for a return. It's been 3 years since AC. Maybe he will try something new, if he does return.

Pretty much this. Mind battles and polling competition or whatever you wanna call it would/should be the main thing behind a political manga.
But again, this is WSJ. Series in WSJ are rarely known for taking risks.

It would be a nice to have a runway/fashion manga like Runway de waratte in WSJ or at least in Jump+.

I feel the only shonen manga in jump that had this indirectly was Jojo lol.

Since Space epic was already said, I'll say a Cyberpunk would also be nice choice for a scifi manga.

Another genre I'm thinking is a mafia manga, FYI not a delinquent manga but a manga with actual criminals and mobsters, I know Reborn! kinda counts but I'm thinking one more grounded, without supernatural powers, with gang wars and stuff

Like i always say, detective, for me is just bizarre how Shonen Jump can't figure it out how to publish a detective manga, both Sunday and Magazine have not only 2 of the biggest classics in the genre but even other mild popular detective series but Jump has basically nothing lol

If i'm not wrong, the last Osuka Gen one shot "Fantasies" is literally this, even the monsters.

Yeah I'm aware of it tho like you said it will need to get rid of the monsters thing. Was thinking of something more like Gangsta. in the 1930s.
And tbh, wasnt that crazy about Fantasies, specially after how Golem Hearts turned out

I think it'd be better if it was in Jump+ or Young Jump tbh but it would be dope to in WSJ ngl

Listen to my proposal, how about Kubo making a .... FASHION manga similar to Runway on Magazine.

Cyberpunk in WSJ gonna be really, for the lack of a better world, lame. Didn't Tokyo something Squad have some cyberpunk elements in it (aesthetic, setting, etc)? Cyberpunk in manga peaked with Blame already.
Mafia in Japan, you meant yakuza, or something similar to Jojo part 4? I think they can make a full battle manga like Jojo 4, Reborn, or a light-hearted comedy like Hinamatsuri.

Well I don't think he would be able to make a coherent story about fashion like runway. But he is good at designing clothes so maybe he should be be a fashion designer.

I still think if kubo was to return it would be best if he did a yankee manga. I'm sure he is tired of doing battle manga now since he's done 2 already.

Guys, we're not going to turn this into a "shit on Kubo" thread.

Let's course correct.
