Currently DS is more or less at the level of Yugioh, he still has to overcome Yu Yu, Gintama, the Prince of Tennis, Kenshin and Kinnikuman, to get to Hunter X Hunter
Sure if you go by total sales, but DS is already selling more than any of those series per volume (Which IMO is a better metric than total sales), e.g. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 100 million sales are impressive, right? But then you compare them to Slam Dunk's 100 million sales and you notice Slam Dunk only has 31 volumes vs the 100+ JJBA volumes, so while in total sales they might be relatively close if you go by sales per volume you see the true powerhouse that Slam Dunk is/was.
Kimetsu No Yaiba has long beat all those titles per volume sales, there are a handful of titles that are still selling better than it by now, but not by a long margin, and I doubt we even have any data to support this claims with 100% accuracy (Because we don't know how much these manga had sold around the times they had reached 19 volumes since they are so old, and manga can sell a lof units over the long run, e.g. Shaman king had like 35 million back when it ended in 2004ish, now it has 53million volumes sold, though probably that's couting every manga in the Shaman King franchise, not just the original).
Anyway the titles that are still above Kimetsu no Yaibe in per volume sales are (I'm using EasyLove's latest WSJ video as reference):
Hokuto No Ken: 100'000,000 with 27 volumes (Around 3'700,000 per volume)
Slam Dunk: 170'000,000 with 31 volumes (Around 5'400,000 per volume (!) )
Dragon Ball: 160'000,000 with 42 volumes (Around 3'800,000 per volume)
One Piece: 360'000,000 with 87 volumes (Around 4'100,000 per volume)
Personally I have my doubts about Slam Dunk's data... I have seen 120 million thrown around, and we know that Slam Dunk celebrated 100 million print volumes
There's probably someone that has the data for a random Jojo volume, but seeing as how Jojo got to sell 100 million volumes on December 2016 with 117 volumes. (Average sales of 850,000 per volume).
I would estimate that JJBA during volume 19 (Which would basically be halfway thru the most recognizable arc, "Stardust Crusaders") would probably have reached the 1 million per volume mark maybe.
So my guess is that JJBA at volume 19 had probably sold 15'000,000+/-, hopefully there's some actual data ..
- 390,000,000 copies with 95 Volumes in Japan (4,105,000 copies per Volume on average).
- 460,000,000 copies worldwide (around 70,000,000 copies internationally).
I wonder... have there been any announced international print numbers for manga that ran in Jump apart from One Piece? I’m kind of curious about what those are.
Bruh 100 million is still 100 million, too much thinking will make yall older. The last couple years of Kochikame each volume hover around 50k but does anyone care? No. It's still sell ~230 million copies and is the 4th/5th best WSJ titles and ran for 40 years.

yeah dragon ball and naruto, even bleach too.
Dragonball was around the time DB Super or one of the movie got announced in 2016 , even have the website with the print number (~240 mil)
Bleach was around the time the live action got announced (120 mil, 90 in japan 30 international)
Naruto 235 mil (140 mil Japan, the rest international)

That's a great example of why sales per volume is a very interesting ratio to analyze, other example is Golgo 13, almost 300 million volumes sold and I can't rememember seeing Golgo 13 in any weekly Top 10 manga list, so I can only assume Golgo's selling pattern is the exact opposite of Kimetsu No Yaiba (Not an "explosion" but a solid seller that has looooooooooooooong legs).
Sure you can only see "Oh this particualar title sold 100 million" and it's obviously a big seller BUT when you also analyze other patterns you get a bigger and clearer picture.
It's interesting because as I had said I had not seen any case similar to KnY's sales, so to me it is pretty interesting to analyze it and its patterns, etc etc .

Is that all? I always wondered how much some of the other popular or new series were selling internationally. It doesn’t matter as much, but I think it’s still a good data point.
When they reveal print numbers, are they usually worldwide figures or Japan only? I’m guessing the latter.

Unfortunately, there are no numbers for that specific period. There are only numbers for the entire series when it was already complete and the growth in the circulation in following years.

If you think about it, those are the series that have hit big internationally so they have a bigger figure. I don't think any other Jump stuff reached the same heights those series did internationally wise.
Jump will do anything but give KNY that 2 million print. But also, imagine the amount of copies KNY will sell that single week with the new volume being released and the backlog getting a reprint. I bet on 4~5 million week easily.

Seein JJK getting more reprints just makes me think of how the gap between it and BC will keep growing. They are on opposite spectrums now, with BC not being able to hit 200k within a month anymore while JJK is almost doing 200k in a month. CSM's performance is really nice, maybe it can reach 100k with the next volume or the one atfer that before falling out of the top 50. MHA still getting reprints for half of the backlog and for the newer volumes is nice too.
