Jump Editor In Chief and executives at a business dinner realizing they have to call Gondaira to hold off his already scheduled axe to continue the story after seeing it actually sold well
You think that’s bad, imagine the author realizing that he’s gonna have to come up with a way to keep the story going after I’ve thought he would be axed. XD
Realistically, what series do you see getting axed over the next couple months? Normally the answer to such a question would be obvious, but I thought about it, and my only surefire bet would be Zipman. Maybe Samurai 8, I guess, but that has Kishi’s name behind it, which should mean something.
Didn't RxL sell more and it still got axed? For all we know Yokazura might make it to 3-4 volumes before it gets the axe because it doesn't grow or even fell in sales with future volumes.

From what I know RxL got axed because the sales were stagnating and not increasing. If Yozakura’s sales happen to grow I doubt it will get axed even with lower sales

Of course, while these numbers + the reprint make it look like Yozakura seem pretty safe for the time being, it's still only a starting point, if nothing changes, it'll probably be axed at some point.
This isn't a 100% win for me only because Mitama underperfomed but i'm really happy for Gondaira, selling around 11k/10k copies in 6 days and already getting a reprint, the irony after all the talk as if the series was already dead kkkk, now it needs to keep growing but we will probably see the manga rising in the toc soon like Chainsaw Man after the release of volume 1, but the good sales and reprint makes the lack of a color page alongside Mitama even more weird, it's like they didn't have a idea that the manga would perform well despite printing at least double of what they printed for Mitama, or they knew and wanted to try and help Mitama instead, anyway, i still don't think Mitama is in danger at all at the moment and it's a relief seeing Yozakura doing well
Thats really contradictory, improve its image where? if the manga is being reprinted because the demand, it means the series has a good "image" with Japanese readers.
Looking at the sales estimatives/values and the general reaction to them, I can only feel like we're lowering the bar more and more as new series come in.
You know, it's perfectly fine liking underperforming series (Well, I kind of like U19). But should we deny the reality these series are not really succeeding just because we like them?
Not so long ago, we were mocking the 30k club and now suddenly we are treating 10k sales like success and the next big hit. SMH.
Digital sales are not factible arguments unless we have real numbers about this.
Eh, I mean, I'm a little surprised at Yozakura's performance, but I won't make a big deal out of it, try to figure out a reason behind it or be very surprised. It just happened that people liked it. Jump having a success which I don't like is just a fact of life, there's no point getting annoyed by it. The sad part is Mitama underperforming, but I still have a little bit of hope. The ToC today (it is today, right?) should be really important for the series, I think.

The thing is that isn't really we lowering the bar, is more like the industry isn't the same like before, Shonen Jump is pratically the only current magazine that would still consider canceling a new series that sell 10k in 6 days just because toc positions, in any of the other shounen magazines doing that would be more than enough to secure a place for a while or more than a year and even SJ is already being impacted by this as we can see with series that years ago would be considered as a flop with their numbers for the first volume but at the current standards were considered as potential popular series like Yaiba, Act-Age, CSM and etc, these mentioned series already had lower sales for Jump "old" standards, also i don't see anyone considering Yozakura as a hit but that is selling good taking in count everything that was released since Chainsaw Man (excluding S8).

I mean, the ultimate reason behind deciding if a series lives or dies is a matter of profitability. Robot x Laserbeam was running circles around Act-Age for example, but it still got cancelled because the sales showed zero growth, the reception was weak, and it was clear that any popularity it had was because of Fujimaki's own fanbase. The series died because it was judged Jump itself wasn't able to capitalize on it. Same goes for Samurai 8 and its reception.

I agree with you when you say the standards are changing and the drop in the sales is expected. But using this same comparison with SJ and other magazines, I think I can clarify my point: 10k is 6 days sure is enough to make a series have a long life in another magazines, but at what expense? I mean, about half of Shonen Sunday (for example) is fodder content which generates nearly no buzz. I just don't like the idea of SJ going that same way.
