Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Honest question: Do you / people consider these scenes of the naked strong guy (I forgot his name) of Agravity Boys as fanservice?
Because, like, as a gay man, it seems to me none of them seems to be arousing and they're just there for comic purposes.
Ehm no? For me it's just comedy. I don't think it was fanservice intentionally.

Wait, you're gay? Huh.
I'm not going to delete this because it doesn't seem like you meant this as an insult.

But, questioning users about their sexuality *really* doesn't belong in this thread.

Hell, it doesn't belong on this site in general.

I assure you, it was just an expression of surprise.

Even so, this thread isn't the place for that kind of commentary.

It's 2020, sexual orientation isn't something to be surprised by anymore. Unless it's, like, pedophilia or beastiality.
Understood.

1775 death for +70000 cases(a small percentage) is now deathly? less than 10 deaths outside china is deathly?
Also the "tell that to the victim" is a shitty argument, because then we can't say that a flu isn't deathly because people die from it.
Nice "fact and logic" argument there. When the second major power can't even handle it, you know shit got real.
I am surprised with some people's order of priority.
My favourite manga got animated > people get infected and spread an ongoing disease further, I guess.

Mashle was great, hopefully the author gives mash more personality.
His character is meant to be like that, maybe much later In the series he will show some kind of personality, but for now that's his trademark as parody

Yeah. I think the harshness of Kimetsu is what Nakano feels makes it stand out. Even in its lighthearted moments, there's always the idea that anyone can die from even a minor mistake. "Luffy follows his gut instinct" the series is not.

That went from zero to horror in a hurry.

I wonder why they only release it digitally.

I don't know about ABoys, but I certainly consider this fanservice.

MY LITTLE MARS
Finally took a look at this. Seeing that decaptated head made me wonder, what is the limit for violence in Jump? I know that Yuuna uses the "testing the limits of Jump" text quite often for the really ecchi parts, but what about violence? I imagine that Chainsaw Man pushes it quite often, but when is the point where it's too much for Jump?

It's mainly comedy, but it could be fanservice in some characters.

If Baba is the character being naked, so it is almost exclusively comedy, since he isn't really attractive (especially in Japanese standards).

However, the other three guys could be attractive for girls. If you see them naked in attractive positions, it probably has fanservice reasons at some level.

Both, they're primarily for the comedy but also work as fanservice, specially the Chris "naked" scene, also the target of the fanservice isn't really gay man but more fujoshis or shota/trap fans.
Exactly.

Also, it seems the "cute guy" character is popular for female Japanese fans. I see the "cute guy" high in many polls of Otome Games.

That really depends on your definition of fan service. Is fan service always sexual? No. The use of Goku's "body, don't fail me now!" line in Agravity Boys is a prime example. It's a reference that's there for the people who get it to say "oh shit, that's a Dragon Ball reference, nice", so that is also a form of fan service. So yes. I would say it is fan service being used as comedy, much like you'd see in any ecchi series like Yuuna, To Love Ru, etc.

(except in this case, many people have a double standard and don't think nude men are fan service, for some reason. They certainly are? You think all those random, pointless shirtless scenes in My Hero, Black Clover, Kimetsu, etc. are just there for some reason? No, it's to admire their muscles)

I think we are speaking about fanservice in the sexual sense.

You're right with your examples. These random shirtless scenes in My Hero, Black Clover, Kimetsu, etc. exist for fanservice (in the sexual sense).

However, you should consider the character that it is used for this scene. If a character not very attractive physically has a nude scene, that scene is not going to be for fanservice (in the sexual sense).

For example: In Agravity Boys, Baba isn't really an attractive guy (especially in Japanese standards), so his naked moments are not really for fanservice. These moments are almost exclusively for comedy.

I guess when there's any censoring involved. The example I'm thinking of involves exposed internal organs. But the censoring is still present in the volume release, so it may have been a conscious choice rather than forced by Jump (unlike Yuuna, which removes the censoring in the volume releases, right?).

So, I am copying something from TV tropes below called "Mohs Scale of Violence Hardness" which is they use to show how gruesome a work is.

7. Blood splatters/spurts start to become noticeable. Mild gore may be seen. Onscreen acts of mutilation of bare flesh by bullets or blades generally start here. Mostly bloodless but onscreen (clothed) genital trauma may appear. Mildly or cartoonishly bloody decapitations start here. Mild obliteration or "gibbing" (little to no graphic/discernable body parts) may appear. Graphically and gorily burnt skin starts to show up on this level. Onscreen rape will always rate at least a level 7.

8. Explicit and/or particularly large, but not comedic, blood squibs, spurts, and splatters are a frequent sight. Perhaps some moderate gore can be seen. Such as a moderately graphic (realistically spurting blood) dismemberment, decapitation and/or head explosion (maybe a not-too-graphic, semi head obliteration, if brief or out of focus enough) and somewhat bloody, but not explicit genital trauma may appear.

9. Gore really starts becoming common here. Exposed organs, bone, or muscle may be seen briefly. Bloodily exploding body parts really start showing up. Graphic semi-obliterated/decapitated heads appear here.

10. Gorefest territory. Nightmarish depictions of bodily harm such as being reduced to pulp, skinned corpses, explicitly mutilated genitals, etc. show up here, as do realistic, prolonged, brutal sequences of genuinely gory mayhem. The very hardest of hard-R and even NC-17 make their appearances on this level. Real-world graphic violence (within fictional context) and on-screen graphic/gory scenes involving children reach this level.

Kimetsu no Yaiba is in the 7-8 territory. I don't know if chainsaw man and some others will be higher though given the description of 10, I don't think any WSJ series will pass 9.

Seems like the censoring is somewhat inconsistent. A chapter from the 2018 run had a small panel with what I assume are entrails on full display (though admitedly it's hard to make out the details).
