Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

How many authors can anyone name with 2 hits in the same magazine (excluding sequels)
I have 3 (Takahashi in Sunday, Mashima and Koji in Magazine).
(aside from the ones you mentioned)
Jump: Togashi, Toriyama, Matsui, maybe Obata if you wanna count him despite different authors
Sunday: Aoyama, Adachi, Fujita, Shiina
Magazine: Akamatsu, Yoshikawa

Just from the top of my head. Sure there are more, especially in Magazine, I'm not quite up to speed on their catalogue.

Morita gettin' no love (both are considered "hits", right?).

look, I even think the jump could treat your veterans and newbies better.
I don't disagree with anything that was said, because what shinuki feels about Kamio yui and samurai 8, I feel for Yozakura.
I see that Yozakura has the potential to grow, but the jump still doesn't trust enough even with the 2 reprints.
But I also think that authors need to earn it, deliver a story that has the minimum quality possible, it doesn't have to be revolutionary or innovative.
Samurai 8 had a problematic start, there were 15 chapters of exhibition and the art did not help, and look that the marketing over the manga was absurd, the most aggressive I have ever seen for a manga.
and Kamio yui, started out as a harem romance and then switched to demon fighting without any prior preparation, it looked like despair. In it seemed that it was done by the author of Nuraryhion in the magician.
What I mean is that the jump should treat your veterans and newbies better, but they have to do their part too.

Shimabu (Takeshi & Toriko)
Togashi (YYH, HxH), Matsui (Neuro/AssClass) and Inagaki (Eyeshield/Dr. Stone) are the ones that spring to mind for me.

The problem with giving veterans special treatment is that you end up with stagnant series like Yui Kamio, S8 and Hungry Marie sticking around for too long.

The best way for jump to treat veterans ishow they currently are: fairly.

I guess I should have mentioned I was also excluding Jump as the argument was about Jump's treatment of veterans.

WSM does have a lot of veterans, most of the magazine right now consists of authors in their second or third hit (or even more than that) in WSM itself*. The number grows larger when we consider authors who moved to WSM from other magazines (for instance, Wakui Ken was publishing in Young Magazine before, IIRC, which is still a Kodansha publication). I don't think there's a comparison in how Jump and Magazine treat veterans. Not to make a value judgment either way, but they are definitely different.

*names, just for completeness' sake: Sasuga Kei, Seo Kouji, Mashima, Oh Great, Yoshitoki Ooima, Yasuda Tsuyoshi, Yoshikawa Miki (not sure if Cuckoo's will last, but she already has two hits under her belt), Reiji Miyajima, and I think there's more, those are just publishing there right now. Some of those are publishing their second hit series right now, so maybe you don't want to count them, but even still, that's a lot.

And for Sunday, in two years they had already 4 veteran authors coming back with a new popular series: Hata (Kawai), Matsuena (Kimi wa 008), Rumiko (MAO) and recently Kotoyama (Yofukashi).

This has really nothing to do with trying to be innovator or the other magazines being comfortable working with smaller risks, just to remember that Shonen Jump was once dethroned for a time by these other magazines when Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk and others ended, also Shonen Jump system is simply impracticable for the industry, isn't a case of taking risks, is simply because this industry would not be half big with every manga magazine just throwing everything out of the window because it doesn't sell at certain high standards.

Reading these posts are like going in circles, is just the same thing over and over again that in the end is just adding for what i already said about Jump system, i know all of this...
Question, why exactly is this different from new authors? Why're you arguing for veterans getting such treatment?

For clarification, apparently Dr. Stone was featured on a popular talk show?

Kingdom effect incoming, Wonder if this can push Stone above Black Clover into that 300k-400k a year tier

Agravity official Twitter account before Yozakura and Mitama? That's disappointing. They must not really care about its placement in the TOC since I'm pretty sure it's been bottom 5 ever since it started ranking.

Looks like we now have a Demon Slayer slayer :3c

In all seriousness though, it'll be interesting to see how well the backlog holds on Shoseki and affects sales in the long run!

Well, Tsurun already has his own account, so that's something. I guess Jump predicts good Vol 1 sales? Only April 3rd would tell.
