Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Last week was a special case because of the S8 ending (one of the main early leakers was also a S8 fan) and Kubo news. Probably not.
Now that Bleach fans are excited about the return of the anime and the serialization of Burn The witch, perhaps one of them will leak to TOC.
there will be more bleach news in the next edition.

Mashle came in 6th in the first ranking and then rose to 4th in the second ranking.
I think he is safer for Guardian and undead unluck.
First/second week rankings don't say much though. It is funny at first, the question is if it will be able to keep people interested in the long run.

For me, the quality started dropping a bit after chapter 4, so I expect to see a drop in the rankings in a few weeks.

Not at all, this shortage of comedy series is something that only started recently, until 2017 Jump used to have at least 5 popular/decent comedy/gag series going on together.
Yeah... POPULAR gag series. But if the other two have similar sales as Mitama, Jump probably isn't going to keep all three of them around.

...Not really? Kochikame had been running for 40 years straight and had immunity, Gintama was very long-running at that point, Isobee had immunity and wasn't exactly a seller, and Samon...well, Samon shows the fate comedy manga tend to face. Saiki was the last truly popular comedy manga Jump launched, and it was almost 8 years ago now.

Rain, can you please actually read people's comment before quoting and trying to force your old narrative about comedy? you don't make any sense saying "Kochikame had immunity and Gintama was very long running", what is this supposed to mean? they don't count as comedy series running in the magazine? both of them were occupying actual space in the magazine, i didn't said that every year they had a new popular series starting but that they always had at least 5 popular or decently received comedy/gag series running together every year, old and new ones.

Speaking of Kochikame, it would be interesting to see how well it ranked when it was fairly new. And at which point it stopped being ranked normally.

I am curious if there will ever be another series in Jump that functions similarly to Kochikame.

You know, allowed to run for 40+ years.

One Piece is 20+ years old. So another 3 long arcs and it'll be 30 years old.

Why did isobee have immunity?
WSJ gave it the fixed spot in all issues permanently.
I forgot the reason but I think it was something to do with the art and incorporation of japanese culture of Isobee. I might be making some assumptions tho so don't quote me.

That might explain HZ as well. It was probably allowed to stick around for similar reasoning.

WSJ has said they keep series around if they're interesting but being interesting alone isn't enough, they need to have at least a consistent niche fanbase. Isobe and Hinomaru Zumou might not have been big sellers but they were consistent sellers and mostly did well on polls (when Isobe was ranked at least, I imagine it still got good votes the whole time if they kept it around for so long).

I guess that also explains Pyuu to Fuku Jaguar as well?
