I wonder if October is a reasonable date. The Pandemic could even last until the end of the year, so there's no guarantee for (most) theaters to be open by then.

That said, yeah. Kimetsu boost will likely last until the next 2-3 years, if you consider that they're going to finish the series. At that point, 100M lifetime sales is not impossible.

Jesus ppl still asking where's Akaza. It's a huge spoiler to put him in the trailer or even a tease because he's supposed to be a surprise.

Wish they showed more, but well, I guess that would mean ruining the surprise of the second half of the arc if they put Akaza in the trailer

TOHO being involved with the movie distribution with Aniplex means a very wide release in theaters across Japan. Expectations are high for the box office numbers.

Is it going to be as wide as people expect, though? I mean, sure the pandemic might start to die down at that point, but I don't think it's going to as wide as people expect, so we might need to temper expectations a little bit. Of which I'm sure, they've probably accounted for that.

Less than 10k for all 3 newbies? Damn, that sucks.
We are in a pandemic, the scenario is very different from the usual.
Even veterans have seen their sales drop, with the exception of Dr. Stone.
The only way to know who is doing well is through reprint information or digital sales.

Demon Slayer trailer was dope. Can’t wait for the movie to come out in the U.S. I want to see how much it makes over here compared to Two Heroes, since I consider it and MHA to be two of the newest mainstream anime.

Oh, Akaza was supposed to be a surprise? Shit. I don’t really know much about him, at least.

The visual looks nice and even tho the PV didn't show much, it was nice that it was spoiler free. Lol at people asking to show Akaza...
Kimetsu no yaiba total sale = 50 million (19 Volume + Light novel)
How far can it go??? 100 million???
100 million means it has to literally double it's current explosive success. It sounds unlikely. It also depends on how far the series will go from here on out as well.

Probably something in the 70-80 million range at best. Unless it pulls something something further out of left field like going the same direction as JoJo, I really don't see it going more than 23 or 24 volumes. Similarly I'm skeptical it's volume sales will top out at more than 3-3.5 million per volume. So even with the best case scenario I can imagine at the moment, it'd top out at 84 million, and I doubt it'll get the best case scenario.

Can't wait for the incessant "wow, the newbies sure did sell badly" comments here and on Twitter because of people ignoring the global pandemic that's obviously affecting sales of every series.
The fact they are ALL getting reprints means they were underprinted (probably around 10-12k max first print). Nothing to worry there, nor to blame corona.

Less than 10k for all 3 newbies? Damn, that sucks.
It's just the first 3 days that were counted in the first week, which is what @wsj_manga account failed to mention. Pretty sure all or at least 2 of them would do 10k+ if it was 6-7 days (like Yozakura Vol 1 which had 5-6 days first week).

Last time I took the "realistic" expectation with KnY, the anime boost was supposed to put it just slightly above BC.
Then maybe close to MHA, but no way it gets over it.
I mean, it's selling really well now, but no way it actually beats OP right?
Ok, it beat it once, but no way it beats it again, right?
Ok, MAYBE it'll beat it again, but that's it, right? Volume 18 will probably only do 700k or so week 1 too.
Ok, it's going to beat it again, but taking the record is way too optimistic!

No point being realistic at this point, I'm going all-in and saying KnY will hit 100 million circulation (with digital). It's not like being "realistic" has ever worked with this series in the past year anyways.

I doubt Kimetsu no Yaiba will get 100 million before the manga ends, but I think it'll hit that number in lifetime sales eventually. There is ~4 seasons worth of content left to adapt after the movie after all (assuming it's only got a couple volumes left from here), the anime will probably be going on for quite a while yet.

I feel like you’re underestimating the impact the movie might have on its sales. Sure, it’s coming near the end of the Oricon year, but still. I think 100 million is possible. As yadayada said, this manga has repeatedly blown away all realistic expectations.

I know that we don't have numbers from this point in time, but I really do wonder what HxH's sales were in it's heyday. I saw a picture of the WSJ version of Chapter 91. And it had this promotinal text: "JC 最新 9巻 メガヒット発売中" ("JC newest volume 9 of the mega hit is avalible now"; my rough translation). I know they use terms like "great reception" or "great populatiry" and that's not always true, but to refer it to a "Mega Hit" must mean it really did pull some numbers, that and alongside the very early anime anouncment. But alas, we may never know, unless if we're able to contact a person who lived in Japan during that time to help us gauge HxH's popularity back then.

Also, is an updated number for Bastard!!'s circulation number avalible? We still only have that 30 Mill number from 2008.

Can we do box office predictions for Kimetsu's movie in Japan? What are you bets guys lol? I'm going to bet 10+ billion yen.

Here's a box office list of anime films (scroll down to see Japan)

I don't think I am and I never said 100 million is impossible but rather it's unlikely IMO. There's other factors that contribute to Kimetsu hitting that 100 million feat such as how long will the series go for? I'm under the assumption that it'll be ~25 volumes, so that means it has to be doing ~4 million sales per volume. The longer it goes, the higher chance it has at hitting 100 million with how the backlogs are going.

Even considering Kimetsu's current success, for it to double in circulation is still a huge statement to make. With KnY blowing away all realistic expectations, it's still important to have some level of realistic expectations. Not saying I'm right &/or people are wrong for predicting 100 million, it's just my opinion on this.

Highest first print number for HxH was 1.6mln for volume 13.

So I guess with the Shokugeki s5 airing now and Bleach's final arc confirmed for later, we'll most likely have 2 more WSJ manga added to the list of series with full anime adaptations, which I think is a surprisingly small list.

Does anyone have a full list of WSJ series with complete anime adaptations?
