Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

Kimetsu Vol 20 sold 1,086,000 and Vol 20 SE sold 904K
From Oricon
So it has sold almost 2 million. I suppose those figures will be counted collectively and not individually, right?

Nope, They usually count individually.

Almost 2mln in 5 days...looks like shoseki overestimated the backlog hard. But sweet jesus, especially that special edition number, that's freaking insane...

Anyone know the record for SE fw? That has to be a new record right...
Also combined it's just 10k off 2 million... why so close :emocat

Doesn't make much sense. How will they count it individually if it's the same volume, only with SE? If so, I don't think they would sell it separately if the special edition is going to hurt normal volume.

Uhh, what do you mean hurt normal volume? Selling a special makes more money than selling the normal volume, lol, they don't care if the number looks smaller. And oricon will count it separately, it's 2 skus.

So we will see more of these for the next three volumes, come on under a pandemic and state of emergency getting these numbers, is quite the challenge lol

Different price for both so it makes sense to separate them.

I've changed it to make it more about who would probably say goodbye to a series when it ends;

- TPN's end: Tabata, Hori, Gege
- Haikyuu!!: Tabata, Horikoshi, Gege, Oda, Dr. Stone's mangaka (Both or 1), Tatsuya
- Yuuna: No one
- WNL: Probably Yuuna's mangaka if they are still serialized.
- MHA: Assuming current line up is still around then I would imagine most would pay tribute to MHA.
I would probably add Oda to TPN since he mentioned Posuka once in an author comment. So far, Oda said goodbye to every single manga whose author he mentioned in an author comment before.

The SE record is great, but does this mean that it didn't beat One Piece's record for sales in the first five days (I don't quite remember what the exact number is though)? I don't think that any of the remaining KnY volumes have 5 days, so it'll be harder to see if it can break that one.

Anyway, a record's only a record, the success still speaks for itself!

Special editions are more expensive to buy meaning they make more money. It's also an incentive to get people into a series or to get more people to buy volumes.
A big example is Bleach where the volume 55 sold a lot more than volumes before and after it because while it wasn't a special edition volume, it had some bonus stuff that had some additional things with it.

Yeah, it didn't break the FW record. It did outsell volume 19's first month in 5 days however, so there's that, lol.

I don't understand why you would put the special edition + normal one to beat OP's best 5 days with a normal volume, I see it unbalanced. If anything it should have been with Vol 19.

It's fairly balanced. It's not like people are paying the same money. They are being asked to spend more money. I'd call it unbalanced if they clubbed the normal volume with free stuff just to get more people to buy it.

In any case, 5 day thing is just one record.
The bigger record is if it can beat the highest selling OP's volume in a single year since Oricon started.

I told you all this was gonna be it, didn't I? lol That aside, over 900,000 for a SE is ridiculous but with Kimetsu it's not really surprising anymore. Kimetsu has come to shatter almost every manga related record out there.

Give it a month or a month and half (or even less), volume 18 is already pretty close and more reprints are coming.

Well I would have preferred to be toe to toe without any special edition or goodies on it, but there's that :noworry

Lol. So I was going through the start of 2019's WSJ thread and uh, we put up our wishlist for that year

Mine was -
My wishlist
- MHA being a million seller
- TPN being a million seller
- Kimetsu touching 400-500k in sales per volume
- Jujutsu touching 200k per volume
- Kishimoto's new series being fresh and not something we've seen before

- Hopefully get some confirmation that Kubo will do another work soon in a year or two.

To think Kimetsu might actually go 10x by what I assumed and might touch 4 million a volume at some point by this year or next is insane.
Jujutsu also exceeded my expectation without an anime. Totally can see it hitting 600-800k a volume now at its peak.

MHA and TPN disappointed since neither became million sellers.
Kishi - All that potential, lost. Moving past that.
And yaay, Kubo is sorta coming back.

I think the funniest bit is the fact that if you added my wishlist's sales I wanted for all those series, it would still be LOWER than what the peak KNY's volumes have done.
