Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I can understand why Jump has so many damn baseball manga for years.

Japan is crazy for baseball as a sport.

Nice, Jigo went up

And thank you for keeping KnY sales separate.

Edit: Holy shit Mashle went up a lot. The news about volume 1 selling out is very well deserved. Lets go.

The real question is if Shueisha even printed 40k copies.

Considering how things seem to all sell out even with lower numbers, I get impression they've kept print numbers for new series quite low ever since Samurai's massive failure.

Or just set it in the Dragon Ball universe. Have Whis tell Goku that the multiverse is much larger than they evercould have thought and all the universes are bleeding together and them and a group of warriors from across universes have to work together to defeat whoever is causing all this to happen.
The problem with setting stuff in Dragon Ball is that Yamcha could single-handedly wipe out the entire cast of... most series, really.

But I guess Whis could just magic them off to another dimension where the usual rules don't apply, or something.

The other 70s thing that was a Jump staple was the baseball manga. Captain Tsubasa was the first big not-baseball spokon in Jump, but before it we had Play Ball, Astro Kyudan, Samurai Giants, etc.

This made me think. Imagine the next Jump spokon is a baseball manga, of very good quality. If that happens, the reaction in Japan would be big (Japan two main sports are baseball and football). But how would the reception be in West, being a baseball manga? Thinking this knowing Ace of Diamond for example has fanbase. Or Touch or Major.
There is no 'the West' here. There's either Europe, where baseball is such a minor sport that most people have never seen a match, or North-America, where it's pretty much the biggest thing around.

So while the English market might show interest, French and German publishers/readers could be a lot more hesitant.

(Normally, having an unfamiliar sport as topic of a manga isn't a problem, because the story will explain what you need to know. But in most baseball manga, they don't make ANY attempt to explain even the most basic rules, so people who are unfamiliar with it are completely lost from the start and probably won't continue reading.)

I'm really wanting to see what will the next spokon be and what sport will it be. The only succesful spokon we have had lately would be Blue Lock (WSM). And Shuudan was really good, it still pains me the axe.
Blue Lock does an amazing job combining a spokon with a tournament battle manga. I wish more series would do something like that, it makes for a much more exciting story for people who aren't into sports in real life.

(I know most spokon are driven by the characters and that's fine, but let's face it, the plot isn't usually all that original or surprising.)

Sincerely, fuck off and stop screw up the ranking, KnY.
How long this shit last?
Seriously, we should make a poll predicting when will KnY fever end.
Maybe never. Maybe it's all KnY till the end of the world.

North-America, where it's pretty much the biggest thing around.
Wasn't Superbowl (American football) the most famous sport event in the USA?
Also, I never know any countries care about baseball beside the USA, its Eastern fangirls (Japan and Korea) and Cuba. Do Canada play anything beside Ice Hockey? Do Mexico play anything but real football?

They could always nerf the characters in Dragon Ball, like they did in Toriko x OP x DBZ crossover.

Blue Lock & Shokugeki have similar settings, i.e prestigious facility/academy. The setting is hard to pull off in the long run without it becoming repetitive/boring. I personally prefer if spokon's avoid it tbh.

Now now, not forever...just until every japanese household has finished collecting it. Or has finished collecting multiple copies of it. I dunno.

On the same topic but with other series, do you think Neverland will get a boost after its ending?

A bit off topic, but I think power levels are practically irrelevant when they start going into absurdity.
In all honesty, whether we’re talking about Naruto, DB, Bleach, MHA, YYH, Black Clover, etc. these characters are only as strong as the plot needs them to be.

If the plot requires All Might or Naruto to be able to keep up with Super Ultra Instinct Rainbow God Super Saiyan White Goku, than they’ll they get some type of power up that’ll let them do so.

Thats why I hate power level debates so much in the anime community. The power levels are rarely even consistent within their own series.
Toriyama claims Krillen is the strongest human in the series, despite Krillen retiring and not doing anything for nearly a decade, while Town trains relentlessly and is somehow weaker.
And Master Roshi, a character who was long ago left behind, somehow fought against Gods in a recent arc.

Don't think so. My guess would be 25k-30k at the end of the month. And that is pretty awesome for a fresh series.

BoneC ain't getting a lot of fans here. If Japan has similar reaction to it, I think it might go next after GotW or possibly Mitama considering Mitama's sales are just getting worse with every volume release.
Glad to see WT making TopTen even with a "rough" chapter though honestly the draft part looked pretty damn good, I even read some opinions that people preferred this style over the polished one.^^
Lol, Mashle and JjK having same amount of votes, pretty rare for the top voted mangas, I think. xD
UU strong second, UMA Galaxy hit it big time, I think. That and maybe the relationship of Fuuko and Andy becoming a bit sweeter, who knows.
CSM being first as expected given its huge popularity here and how great its SoL chapter after a long arc was.

The usual suspects in the Top 5, though a special shout-out goes to MASHLE. Again, look at the difference between UU, MASHLE, and GoTW. Like, holy fucking shit. Two series are Top 5 contenders while the other is consistently rock bottom, with barely a vote to its name. To think this was all from the same batch...

At least Yuuna got out of the Bottom 5 in the end, even if said ending was underwhelming. I wonder if Neverland will make a Top 5 appearance for its final chapter. I lament WNL being bottom 5, since this manga’s been enjoyable recently.

Ghostwriter and Moriking are doing fine. For now. It’s Bone Collection that’s looking to be in the most danger. I don’t think anybody...really cares about it. People had no expectations coming into it and it doesn’t seem to have impressed. Doesn’t help that now it’ll face direct competition in Ayakashi Triangle, which is being done by a veteran author with a bit of a fanbase. This will probably be the new rock bottom when Witch ends.
