Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

I am pretty curious about how long Burn the Witch will be. It exists to give more content for a movie to adapt, so I think 1 volume is a pretty reasonable expectation and that's normal length for WSJ mini-series.

The oneshot was ~60 pages I think, so if it fills 1 regular sized volume it'd need 6 chapters at ~20 pages, or 4 chapters at ~30 pages. Though of course volumes can vary in size so we could see just 3 chapters or even 10+.
I reckon one volume as well but I'll happily take more. I think a safe estimate right now would be 8-10 chapters if the one shot isn't included in the volume.

30k is a hit for jump standards as well.
Not quite. 30k for the Jump is a good start, but it likely needs to grow.

By the way, what's the most amount of hits in a single year?

4 perhaps?
2012: Haikyuu, Saiki, AssClass, Soma
2008: Nura, Toriko, Bakuman, Kuroko
1998: HxH, Shaman King, Rookies, Whistle
1993: Ninku, Luckyman, Nube, DNA

Thats the ones I can think at the top of my head right now

Best I can see from a quick check is 6 hits within a year from 1997 to 1998.

'97 #33 - Takeshi-kun
'97 #34 - One Piece
'98 #10 - Rookies
'98 #13 - Whistle
'98 #14 - Hunter x Hunter
'98 #31 - Shaman King

is there another hit in 2020 other than mashle?
Not an ironic question, just want to see what people regard as a "hit"

There's Undead Unluck doing just fine, that's two thus far, depending on how sales go next month, Moriking may be the third

Black Clover doesn’t even have a movie 2.5 (?)years into its TV run. Come on...
There’s no way Black Clover will get such a boost. I think it has hit its peak in popularity...and that’s okay.
You never know what tricks the Japanese have up their sleeves

Steel Ball Run started in 2004 too, originally from WSJ despite being most of his run in Ultra Jump, but from series were only from WSJ and over 2 years at least, 2004 is tied with 2008:

-Psyren
-Nurarihyon no Mago
-Toriko
-Bakuman
-Inumarudashi

Talking about Motomiya in Discord (since he's now in Grand Jump serializing a new manga) I want to leave a short list of the things why Shonen Jump exists thanks to Motomiya (source: many interviews like Kurumada interview, Jump L'Age d'Or book, and Shonen Jump 50th anniversaries books).

-Did the first Jump success (Otoko Ippiki Gaki Daisho. Reminder Jump reached 1 millon just thanks to Otoko Ippiki fujos)
-Convinced Akimoto that, since Kochikame hasn't "plot", he could write it like Saze-san, long and slice of life.
-In early 80s, WSM and WSS were very succesful because their romcoms (The Kabocha Wine and Urusei Yatsura), and Jump editors were thinking in transforming the magazine to an oneshots magazine or to go full romcoms too. Motomiya convinced them to serialize Hokuto no Ken (Fist of North Star) as answer to the romcom wave. And it worked.
-Kurumada became a mangaka because Motomiya. Without Motomiya, Ring ni Kakero and Saint Seiya wouldn't exist. Otokozaka (currently resurrected in Jump Plus) is a homage to Motomiya).
-Same stuff for Tetsuo Hara (artist of Hokuto no Ken). He even did a homage to Motomiya in 1995 (that was quickly axed).
-Ring ni Kakero combined Kurumada's manliness with "superpowers" (based on Astro Kyudan, which if I recall, Kurumada was an assistant) and created that new formula that Kinnikuman (Yudetamago were friends with Kurumada and fans of Motomiya), Captain Tsubasa (Takahashi was another Motomiya fan) and Hokuto no Ken were based
-Motomiya had as assistants Buronson (author of Hokuto no Ken), the other Takahashi (Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin) and Miyashita (Sakigake Otokojuku)

I really hope mangaplus releases the old classics you mentioned like Otoko Ippiki gaki daisho, Hokuto no Ken, mazinger z or even harenchi gakuen. It would be very nice to have truly legacy manga on that app, and it would give more reason for people to use it other than just waiting for new releases

Is there a place where you can read Eyeshield 21 online legally with a similar quality to mangaplus?
I hope it will come there along with D. Gray man but nothing so far

About chainsaw man, do you think the manga is ending or is it just a troll by the author?

For those of you interested, the second chapter of Kaiju No. 8 now has an english translation on Mangadex. I really like the direction the second chapter is taking and I'm definitely looking forward to more.

The possibility that they translate into sales exists, but the assumption that they will is always wrong when we have seen so many times on Jump+ that it isn't the case. High views doesn't mean high sales, basically, otherwise jump+ would have a lot more big hits than they actually do. It could still be a big hit, my point is that it's bizarre to declare it as one off views.
This is probably coming way, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too late to the party. But adding to the idea of views =! sales =! continued popularity I should bring up the closest case of this, which is Dentist-san. That series whose one-shot was published back on October 5th, 2019, trended on Twitter for days straight, got a total of 2.6 million views, became the most read one-shot ever in the whole platform, and started a serialization just 7 months after on May 30th, 2020. And I don't think I'm the only one that hasn't seen a single thing about the series up to now. In favor of the series, it still has an average of one million views per chapter. It also got that amount with Chapter 1. It also got a Twitter, and was showcased in Natalie, Oricon, Mantan... But if someone were to ask me how will it sell, I probably wouldn't even know what to say. As stated in the message I'm quoting, Jump+ would have a lot more big hits than they actually do. We should back off a bit until judging anything at all.

Guess I'll leave all the info around here:

The story beats remind me very much of how MHA started. If this was serialized in the main magazine, this would have been the best of the new batch. It’s got a great blend of comedy and action plus everything else was executed really well.

Yeah, just like Spy x Family, I feel like this is a huge missed opportunity that they didn't run it in the main magazine. Especially because this is apparently weekly unlike Spy x Family.
