Moderator Notice:
Henceforth, I will be deleting posts that complain about Weekly Shonen Jump having too many/not enough gag/battle/exorcism/sports/etc series.

These posts are not insightful, and do not meaningfully contribute to this thread. Also, this decision is not up for discussion, so posts discussing this decision will also be deleted.~ Halloween

MHA is the 2nd most popular show in USA..
...in the past 60 days, according to a data analytics firm. Seems legit, I guess, though it's kind of hard to believe, considering HeroAca is in it's off-season, and Avatar got a popularity boost thanks to Netflix.

How do you explain Haikyu!!'s steady decline, then? The material between Volume 27 and 40 is highly regarded by fans (in fact, one of the matches that happens during this stretch was voted the best match in a magazine poll). Also, the anime which covered the material from the start of this decline actually renewed interest in the manga!

Heres the answer - anime. The drop here not because of plot but because of long time without anime. This all just shows how good HQ plot is. Mha pretty much has continual anime just broken into seasons but here goes the drop.

MHA is the 2nd most popular show in USA..
When Japan do superhero genre better than its own homeland

Thats exactly how things work. Why for a moment OP losing it sales? Because the plot. Gintama last volumes also didnt sell all that good. Because final arc was not good. And et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Nope.

According to you fish man island>any arc pre time skip, since it sold more per volume.

The final arc of gintama is consodred good but not great by fans but the last stretch of arcs are highly regarded and sales decline started way before.

Every long running series reaches a peak slaes and then declines no matter the quality.

Theyre using fan ratings though...so probably none of what you said matters.

And technically, HeroAca, would have been airing on US tv in the past 60 days. They might not be able to discriminate the types of reactions for heroaca are from the manga and the anime, so that could be an issue as well.

If someone truly wanted most watched, they could have just used nielsen.

You mean first arc after time-skip? Which came after crazy Strong world\Marineford boost? Of course it would sell like crazy. About Gintama: final arc considerated good by its own fandom which as one can guess cant be completely unbiased. Its understandable but I prefer to tell what I considerate bitter truth instead of sweet lie.

The boost started during marine Ford.
Marine Ford ended at volume 59.
The highest selling one piece volumes is volume 63(so 1 year apart, 59 was released August 2010 and 63 was released August 2011)

Edited.

It's you opinion that the silver soul arc isn't good, it isn't an objective fact.

One Piece 63 was released in August, 2011 though. There was no One Piece volume released in July, 2012 too. Unless you're seeing volume 63's English release lol.

Yeah you are right.
Though that is still a year.

When did the boost start anyway?

Volume 57, which was the first volume that was released after Strong World then sales kept increasing until they peaked with later volumes.

How were the sales before volume 57?

Are they in the same range as the sales are now?

Yes, One Piece's sales have been showing a considerable decrease over the past few volumes, since around volume 90 (volume 91 showed some sort of recovery but sales started decreasing again after that). Last 5 volumes before Strong World and last 5 volumes (you can see volume 56 already showed a glimpse of a boost).

Thanks.
It seems that's the 4 week range is about the same for 52-55 (1.6 mill) and that the end is higher for 52-55(though the number of days is higher, is there a reason for this?)

Are you asking why 52-55 has a higher total sales recorded (over 300+ days) when compared to the newer OP volumes (which are all less than 200 days)?

Jump has a preference for releasing volumes on the 4th day of every month so the day of the week may vary everytime, therefore making the number of days in the first week vary as well. Sometimes they release volumes on the 2nd and 3rd day, but it rarely goes beyond the 4th day.

No, I am asking why for the total sales for 52-55 the number the days is in the 300s-400s and for the newer ones (92,93..)its in the 100s.

Because volumes 52-55 showed up at the sales chart after that period of time. Sometimes volumes drop of the charts and come back again, be it weekly or yearly (or they remain constant, if you look at Kimetsu no Yaiba's data, a bunch of volumes have more than 1000 days because they have been constantly charting). Everything beyong data is uknown sales for that volume. (Also I fixed the amount of days and sales for volumes 92, 93 and 95, I thought I had updated them before).

With this week's break and all, I figured that there's no better time than now to check up on the newbies by gauging reception via Japanese YouTube comments on the promotional videos!

QUESTIONS
Why do I do this? Because I was bored and I'd really like to get some sort of glimpse into how Japan
Why check YouTube comments on Jump manga trailers? Because I figured only Jump diehards/hardcore fans would go comment their opinion on a YouTube trailer for a manga they've happened to read. I may be wrong, but still. It's these same fans who are ultimately deciding these manga's fates.
What do you gauge? Like percentage comments, views to an extent (only because of a theory I've been testing).
Anything else I need to know? These impressions are my interpretation, based on machine-translated Japanese YouTube comments. This may not be (and probably aren't) 100% accurate, and YT commenters are more a vocal minority than anything. Still, I think it's a decent way to gauge reception while waiting for new series to officially rank in the TOC, then go on sale.
I don't trust you. Where can I verify these for myself? Here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC47AYUs8AVU1QsT5LhpXjaw

And now, without further ado, here's my findings!

FINDINGS
God of Destruction Magu-chan (17K views, 97.6% liked) - Top comments say that this was heartwarming. They also think it's pretty funny as well, and some of them stated that they liked the main characters. Another person compared this to Sgt. Frog, which makes a lot of sense.
Hard Boiled Cop and Dolphin (54K views, 97.3% liked) - Reception was mostly good here. Some comments were more mixed than others, though, as they say that the manga is "old". Someone even mentioned that there were a lot of veterans coming back to Jump recently, lol.
Me and Roboco (15K views, 94.86% liked) - Even more mixed here. Again, reception seems to be positive overall. Some are very happy that the author has a new serialization. A few are reminded of the Oyasaku no Neverland spinoff. A good number of people thought it was funny, though someone doubts that it'll turn into a battle manga. The big sticking point here is seemingly the fact that Jump is seralizing too many gag manga at once. Quite a few comments talking about how there's a lot of gags now.

Also, I just noticed that the Jump manga reel video that they have on their channel page playing doesn't have Yuuna-san,despite it still running when that was published. At least Chainsaw Man was still a newbie back then.

Good to know it’s not just this thread getting annoyed by the amount of gag manga coming out on jump.

About 'Hype', if you're going to say that the OP boost was because of Marineford since that's when it started rather than when it peaked, by that logic the most 'hype' arc ever in MHA is the Todoroki-Bakugo babysitting mini-arc and the Cultural Festival, because the boost towards its highest peak started with Volume 18. Sure, it peaked with the Pro Hero arc, but that was just following a trend. Volume 21 might still be the best-selling volume, but it's not that much higher than 20 and 22.

No, the real cause of this boost was probably that at the time the anime was airing the forest camp/kamino, that's where the 'hype' was coming from, not manga events. This matches what happened with OP, too.

So if this MHA arc is so 'hype' the big boost should be happening during Season 6 when it's airing in the anime, not now.
